PB hotel design editorial

Gordon Ramsay's decision to plant his first American restaurant here said something about the building's ambitions — a fourteen-storey tower on San Vicente Boulevard that had been reimagined as The London West Hollywood, a British-inflected luxury address sitting at the quiet edge of West Hollywood where it tilts toward Beverly Hills. The 226 all-suite property, refurbished with interiors by David Collins Studio, carries a distinctly Mayfair sensibility transplanted to Southern California: ivory panelling with quilted plasterwork detailing, geometric pendant lanterns in bronzed metalwork suspended beneath a glazed atrium ceiling, chevron-patterned rugs anchoring a lobby bar furnished with tufted sofas and cognac leather dining chairs. Guest suites sustain that register without becoming stiff — walnut headboard panels with integrated brass detailing, textured wall coverings in warm cream, lucite bench stools and woven leather rocking chairs adding a California looseness to what might otherwise feel entirely transatlantic. Green marble desktop surfaces and soft gold hardware keep the palette grounded. The rooftop pool deck resolves the tension between the two identities most successfully: white-canopied sun loungers and teal umbrellas arranged around a lap pool with a clear panorama across the Los Angeles basin to the Pacific, tall palms framing the view in a composition that could only exist here, however polished the British references below might be.

I would like to give all staff the honorary for exceptional service but remember a few names unfortunately, Raquel in the restaurant a sunshine, Juan and all other colleagues, Matthew, Richard, Andres and all others at the door, Will in the reception but as mentioned ALL staff at London are great!"

"I went for a staycation and was thrilled with my experience at The London. Everyone was incredibly helpful and friendly, the room was impeccable with a killer view of ALL of LA (I was in the Crown suite, 8th floor). There's a charming gift shop called Bailey Wick, too!"

"This hotel had so much potential but missed the ball on so many fronts. It seems like it tried but gave up on the final details. I should start by saying the positives which is that their beds were comfy and anytime we asked for something to come up, they did it right away. So that part was great. But many other items, there wasn't enough consideration paid. For example, they had chairs around the desks in the room. But the material and cover of the chairs make them impossible to use because you keep sliding off of it. Or they have balconies, but they are unusable because the railing is so low that it feels very scary to get on it. They had coffee at the front desk in the morning; but it was ice cold and I had to ask them twice to heat it back up. They have a huge bathroom, but it has no chairs or tables to put things on. And of course my least favorite thing in a hotel: Bar soaps. Why not give liquid soap at the sink? It has a pool, but it smelled funky. We ordered food at the poolside, but when we checked on it half hour later, they said they'd forgotten to ring it up. There were 6 people working at the valet (very nice) but when we asked them how to get to Melrose Place, they had no idea where that is. Either way, I feel the hotel just needs to give a bit more consideration to the customer journey and experience."
