PB hotel design editorial

At the corner of Wilshire Boulevard and South Santa Monica Boulevard, where Beverly Hills announces itself most deliberately to the world, a low-slung neoclassical building clad in warm California limestone has served since 1991 as the address against which all other Los Angeles luxury hotels measure themselves. The Peninsula Beverly Hills was designed by architects Wimberly Allison Tong & Goo in a restrained Beaux-Arts register — four floors of symmetrically arranged French doors, wrought-iron balconettes, and pilastered bays that draw more from the residential traditions of the 8th arrondissement than from anything native to Southern California. The 195-room property was later refreshed by interior designer Cheryl Rowley, whose palette of warm ivory, silvered mirrors, and blue-grey damask fabric runs from the lobby living room through the guest accommodation. The lobby lounge, visible in the images, deploys a grand crystal chandelier above a herringbone parquet floor, paired fireplaces flanking a wall of arched garden-facing windows, and Louis XVI-style console tables with animal-print upholstered stools — the effect somewhere between a Parisian grand salon and a perfectly curated Bel Air drawing room. Guest rooms divide between the main building and garden villas; the villa category carries its own floral-printed canopy headboards, working fireplaces, and French doors opening to private terraces. On the rooftop, the pool deck trades all that European formality for cobalt blue chaises, yellow-striped market umbrellas, and an unobstructed downtown Los Angeles skyline.

"Such personalized service. I mentioned we were coming for Kanye and I was floored that they had set up 4 clear backpacks with water Gatorade glowies and snacks. And of course the monogrammed pillowcases. They know your name and everybody is so solicitous you feel the warmth of a long lost family reunion. A nice contrast to the impersonal sense you can sometimes get in LaLa land."

"We stayed at The Peninsula Beverly Hills for a family vacation with my wife, kids, and in-laws, and overall it was a really strong experience. We booked two rooms through Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts. Before arriving, I called to ask about a possible upgrade—while that would have been about 3x the price, the team was helpful and instead arranged adjoining rooms for us, which worked out perfectly for a family trip. I’ll admit, I had read some negative reviews before arriving, which made me a bit hesitant. But in our experience, we didn’t encounter any of those issues—which is actually why I felt compelled to write this review. First impressions matter, and they nailed it. The private motor court entrance and valet setup immediately set the tone—elegant, smooth, and not overly crowded despite being in Beverly Hills. We booked base-level rooms, and honestly, they exceeded expectations. They were very comfortable, well-appointed, and a good size—not cramped at all. Everything felt polished and thoughtfully designed. Where this hotel really stands out is the service. It’s consistently excellent across the board—from the doormen to housekeeping to the waitstaff. Everyone was attentive without being overbearing, and it made a noticeable difference throughout the stay. We also spent time at the pool, which was a great spot to relax, and made use of the car service, which was incredibly convenient for getting around. One practical tip: bring cash for tips—you’ll want it, given the level of service. The overall feel actually reminded me of The Langham in London—classic luxury, not trendy, but done really well. No major downsides to note. I’d absolutely stay here again and would recommend it, especially for families looking for a comfortable, high-service hotel in a great location."

"The stay was ok, but the really rude manager, who used to be the bar manager but she got promoted, Rebecca, was really rude to me and my dad. She was extremely unprofessional. I have also heard bad things about her from the staff who work at Peninsula New York, where I stay sometimes, saying she used to work at the bar there, but once she got promoted it got to her head and started treating all of the staff badly. A server, who I will let remain nameless, said that he is supposed to get a complimentary stay at peninsula hotels when he is travelling, but when he was in Beverly Hills Rebecca refused his employee privilege for no reason. Absolutely horrible people out there, this is shocking and just a reminder."

"I spent a few days here and Rebecca is very rude and unprofessional. They don’t take car of the guests and are arrogant and rude. Not a 5 star hotel. Take your money and go to a place where they treat you well, and there are many of them in Beverly Hills. There are also cockroaches in the rooms. I switched 3 rooms because of it"

"We were dining guests of the Belvedere. Kitchen staff was terrible for a Thanksgiving, Holiday Menu and what you would expect for the holiday was missing. Raviolis and dry tasteless turkey etc The.charge for 3 dinners plus one cocktail $1000. The Peninsula Gaddis in Kowloon former restaurant in Repulse Bay and in tokyo hotel contributed for their star rating"
