PB hotel design editorial

At 1850 North Cherokee Avenue, a whitewashed brick building from the 1940s sits close enough to the Hollywood Walk of Fame to feel embedded in the neighborhood's mythology without being consumed by it. The Prospect Hollywood, a boutique property with around 26 rooms across three floors, was transformed by designer Hadley Mace into something that channels old Hollywood glamour through a maximalist, unapologetically theatrical lens — closer in spirit to a collector's private residence than to any conventional hotel interior. Every room arrives with its own distinct wallpaper universe: chinoiserie bamboo and pagoda prints in one, gold-and-bronze palm damask in another, each layered against velvet upholstered headboards, lacquered black credenzas trimmed in brass, leopard-print rugs, and acrylic four-poster frames. The bar is where the concept reaches full pitch — emerald walls interrupted by white plaster arches, a black-and-white harlequin tile floor, a bar front paneled in swirling marbled stone, and gilt sculptural palm trees rising to the ceiling like props from a set that never got struck. The dining room continues in the same register: malachite-green walls hung salon-style with figurative paintings, tufted plum velvet banquettes, and Murano-style leaf sconces casting warm gold light. The exterior, by contrast, plays it relatively straight — red lacquered entry door, black steel window frames, striped canvas awnings — a composed townhouse facade that gives little away about the exuberance waiting inside.

The Prospect Hollywood Reviews

"The Prospect Hollywood (TPH) is a secret gem in the storied Whitley Heights neighborhood. It is both a homage to Hollywood in its heyday (with rooms named after and decorated in the spirit of such luminaries as Marlon Brandon and Lauren Bacall) and a bastion of modern day sophistication. But there is nothing stuffy or showy about TPH—it is low-key luxury. My husband and I stay here every time we visit LA, drawn to the gracious staff, the spacious and stylish rooms and above all, the serene inner courtyard bookended by two beautiful ceramic fire pits. In our experience, guests who choose TPH are seeking a peaceful retreat from the noise and chaos of everyday life. While it is not full service in terms of dining, a continental breakfast is available (pastries, fruit and coffee/juice) and an all day/evening menu offers salads, cheese plates, sandwiches and other snacks. Kiki, the General Manager, is to be commended for ensuring that everyone’s stay at TPH is the best it can be!"

"Lovely hotel! I enjoyed sitting in the courtyard, with a gas fire when chilly. The Judy Garland room had great decor and was more spacious than I expected. I thought the valet parking would be a hassle, but it was so quick each time I wanted the car. The staff were all very helpful. Highly recommend."

"The Prospect is so amazing that even though we didn't need to stay there on our trip to LA because it was out of the way, we made a special trip just to stay there. We love the ambiance, complete with music playing outside, the glamorous lobby, the bath with bath salts, the outdoor fountain, outdoor seating and fire pits. The staff is exceptionally kind and helpful. The courtyard smells amazing and we love sitting there with a complimentary check-in drink or cucumber/mint water. The rooms are beautiful and keep with the Hollywood glam aesthetic. It is quiet and a nice getaway from the busy LA scene, but still close enough to easily access it."

"This is a very charming property tucked away in a residential neighborhood off Hollywood Boulevard. It only has 24 rooms and you get personalized service from "Kiki" and the team - Kiki was extremely helpful with advance questions as well. The celebrity-themed rooms are very comfortable, with a large bathroom and powerful shower. Vintage photos of various celebrities are in each one. Due to a short stay and unseasonably warm weather we did not get to take advantage of the lovely backyard courtyard or divine-looking coffee and croissants served in the morning. Another time! If you are interested in dining at the historic Musso and Frank Grill it's a very short walk literally down the street. The staff assists with parking your vehicle in an adjacent lot to the property. It took just a few minutes to get in and out, and Kiki even carried in our bags. Worth checking out the Prospect if you want to be in this location. It's the anti-chain hotel experience!"

"Very Concerning Experience – Unauthorised Charges After Checkout, borderline fraud. This was one of the most concerning hotel experiences I’ve had. What started as a simple stay ended with multiple unexplained charges to my card after checkout and no response from the hotel when I tried to resolve it. I booked a **5-night stay under a special promotional offer** with a clearly confirmed total price. However, at checkout the hotel attempted to charge a completely different amount. The manager was not on site, and the staff present could not explain the discrepancy. A staff member told me I had stayed **5 nights but only paid for 4**, which was incorrect. I showed her a screenshot of my booking confirmation clearly showing the promotional rate covering the entire stay. She acknowledged that the explanation she had been given did not make sense. Despite this, about 15 minutes after I had already checked out, the hotel charged my card for an additional night anyway without informing me or asking for authorisation. The situation became even more worrying after that: * The hotel placed a hold on my card for a drink that had already been paid for. * Instead of correcting the billing mistake, additional unexplained charges appeared * On *4 March, I completed the hotel’s feedback survey and within two minutes another $68 charge appeared on my card with no explanation. The timing of that charge immediately after submitting feedback is extremely troubling. At this point, the issue goes far beyond poor service. Charging a guest’s card after checkout without notification, consent, or explanation raises serious concerns about how guest payment details are being handled. What makes this even worse is that the hotel has ignored my attempts to contact them about these charges, leaving the matter unresolved. Guests should never have to worry about unexpected charges appearing on their card after they leave a hotel. Until this situation is properly explained and corrected, I would strongly recommend that anyone staying here carefully review their card statements after their stay. Also be careful, they charge you extra service charges which was never mentioned at check in or when you do the booking. The whole thing is very dishonest and unprofessional."
