Civic-scaleintimate

PB hotel design editorial

Sharing a tower with private residences some 900 feet above the intersection of Figueroa and Olympic, the Ritz-Carlton Los Angeles is set within the Wilshire Grand Center — a 73-storey curtain-wall tower completed in 2017 to a design by AC Martin Partners that, at the time of its opening, claimed the tallest roof in California. The hotel fills floors 23 through 70 of that glass shaft, which at night catches the spread of the city grid in its dark reflective skin, the Crypto.com Arena visible below like a lit vessel from the aerial image here. With 123 rooms, the property is deliberately intimate for a building of such civic scale — a tension the interiors work hard to resolve. Inside, the rooms move between two registers: upper suites finished in warm rift-cut oak paneling with embroidered headboard details and a sitting area arranged toward floor-to-ceiling city views, and lower rooms in a cooler graphite palette punctuated by brass pendant fixtures and patterned carpet in blush tones. The pool terrace, cantilevered at mid-tower level, is dressed with platform daybeds, draped cabanas, and scattered lanterns — an urbane rooftop grammar that borrows from resort design without pretending to be one. The all-day restaurant at podium level pairs rattan bistro chairs and woven armchairs with terrazzo floors and a backlit oak bar, the material warmth consistent with the broader interior language throughout the building.

"We were in doubt of staying here or in the RC Marina del Rey, where we stayed before, or in RC Los Angeles. We decided to go to RC Marina del Rey but from the start it was one big disappointment overthere! So we drove all the way to RC Los Angeles and the lovely lady at the Front Desk gave me all the information we needed and we decided to move to this Ritz! Wow!!! We had many regrets that we did not choose this hotel immediately....What a great hotel! From check-in to check-out, it couldn't be better! The lady at the front-desk was so friendly, as was the gentleman that escorted us to the Club Lounge and Nathan at the Lounge's frontdesk! Since we were early we could wait in the Lounge till our room was ready but we did not have to wait long. In Club we met Cynthia, she was so friendly! We were upgraded to a most impressive suite! We loved it! The sofa bed in the living room was made for our daughter so we had each a private space. We did not want to leave the room at all but we had plans so did not spend many time in here....unfortunately. The bed was heavenly. Maybe this upgrade was because husband is Ambassador Elite with Marriott Convoy and I am Lifetime Titanium but not sure. Club Lounge had multiple food-presentations per day. We loved the breakfast, lunch and evening appetizers. There were (alcoholic) beverages all day, at least, I think from 12 noon till 10 pm. We loved the soft serve machine. But most of all we loved the staff! We had lovely city views and views of the area around the hotel. Valet-parking was breeze. Very quick service! After a long day of sightseeing we came back and wanted to have a swim but the pool was already in the shade at 4 pm.. that was a little bummer but did not affect our stay!! We are traveling a lot to RC hotels all over the world but this one is one of our favorites! We certainly come back when staying in the area....Even the fire-alarm that went off at 1 am will not keep us away from this hotel! We loved it!"

"After deciding last minute to book a bonus night on our mini-trip to LA, we are kicking ourselves for not staying here the entire time! From the moment we came in, Harrison at the Front desk gave us a full rundown of the hotel and its amenities, and offered us a late checkout so we could have a leisurely morning. His professional but very friendly demeanor made the start of this stay great. Below is a breakdown of the stay: -Room: We were surprised with a delightful suite that had great views of the city! Literally felt like it should be a residence with so many areas to relax, work, and entertain. Immaculately clean. Oversized bathroom that felt like a spa. -Pool/Gym: Well-equipped gym with plenty of space/cardio machines. Both Peloton bikes had a few connectivity issues, but beyond that... Perfect working order for everything else. The pool was immaculately clean, the service was great when ordering food for delivery, premium sunscreen was offered complimentary, and the seating was very soft for relaxing in the Southern California sun. The pool was the perfect temperature for swimming or just paddling around. Room Service: Prompt, delicious, and reasonable for a luxury property. Kudos to the whole staff for making the multiple trips with chicken tenders LOL. -Club Lounge: W O W! Out of the 10 RC club lounges, this had to be one of the best. Harrison was introduced to Lukas (club manager), who graciously offered his services should we have any questions. Everyone at the club was great, and here are some highlights: Megan: The way we chatted her ear off about our multiple days at Universal and the disappointment my husband did not get on his favorite ride(Mario Kart), we headed to dinner and came back to such a fun surprise(Photo on the post.) She had put together such a cute dessert with a card full of Mario puns. It was so funny/sweet that she would put something so thoughtful together. Kudos for taking a moment of sadness(we are kids at heart, haha) into a memorable experience. Josh: So friendly! Always made sure to check in, be friendly, and offer assistance with whatever we needed. Cynthia: On our first day meeting her, she was so sweet to open a new bottle of Champagne. After leaving for the day, she sent us a warm email welcoming us to the property. Such a nice touch! And what was supposed to be one night turned into two, thanks to having such a great time(Megan’s gesture really hit it out of the park!) From the amazing service, cleanliness, and overall hotel experience, we cannot wait to come back on our next LA visit."

"We spent a day and half at this hotel over Christmas and absolutely loved every minute. This location is modern and stylish and the staff are polished but also very warm. We enjoyed the Club Lounge and amenities. All were top notch. The staff are so kind and charming. Josh in the Lounge and Harrison at the Front Desk were among our favorites. We enjoyed the easy enclosed walk to the J.W. Lobby and the excellent bar there as well. We can't wait to return to this property."

"My husband and I spent a Saturday night at the Ritz Carlton before taking the train. We had a corner king room. It was huge The views were great out the 2 corner windows The room had a huge bathroom bedroom area with couch and table and large closet The service was great and they ordered a cab for our short trip to the train station Our room was on the 24th floor so there was no street noise We felt 100% safe in the area downtown and I had been a little concerned after the problems in the area the weeks before"

"This place is dirty and distrusting. There was either food or vomit smeared into the cushion chairs around the jacuzzi. There were used dirty pull ups all around the pool area. Dirty towels and broken glass, my family ended up having shards of glass on feet and hands. The room was dirty and completely dated. There is $600 of charges that are not mine. I called and emailed to show proof of these charges and I received nothing. It was truly a disappointment and we will never stay again. I would rather stay in a nicer hotel in Santa Monica than here. $4,000 dollars later and we had a HORRIBLE stay. Disappointing!"
