PB hotel design editorial

Pierre-Yves Rochon's decision to import the DNA of a Parisian grand hotel onto the corner of Wilshire and Santa Monica Boulevards was either audacious or inevitable, depending on your appetite for Beverly Hills mythmaking. The Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills, which opened in 2017 across from the older and earthier Beverly Hilton, rises twelve floors in a limestone-clad tower designed by Gensler — its deep-set balconies, planted with cascading greenery, softening what might otherwise register as corporate modernism into something closer to a residential tower on the Avenue Montaigne. The 170-room property was developed by Alagem Capital at a cost reportedly exceeding $200 million, and Rochon's interiors repay that investment in cream-lacquered paneling, caramel leather headboards with scalloped profiles, brass-legged nightstands in two-tone walnut and white lacquer, and geometric carpet in charcoal and ivory — a palette that pulls from mid-century Hollywood glamour without tipping into period pastiche. The rooftop carries a different register entirely. A mosaic-tiled bar clad in deep emerald green anchors the Bamford Wellness Spa level, where velvet lounge chairs in graduated jade tones face a horizon stretching toward downtown Los Angeles. One floor below, the pool deck deploys blush and mint cushions against white stone and wicker furniture — candy-colored and deliberately Californian, the kind of unselfconscious brightness that Rochon's European sensibility elsewhere keeps carefully in check.

"My son was taking a shower in the shower, there was a piece of glass inside the shower that got stuck right in my son‘s foot. I am about to go to sleep and then I see there are multiple hairs in my bed. I asked housekeeping, replaced the sheets, but they say how they cannot redo the sheets. I go downstairs to ask for a refund so I can leave the hotel, she says that I could leave whenever I want, but I will not receive my refund and they will take my money, very rude very mean do not recommend."

"I have a complaint about being charged $69.12 on my checkout for my stay on April 20, 2026. I want to say your hotel was wonderful and I've received the best services I ever had at any hotel. I've visited all 50 states in the USA and over 60 different countries around the world. This is the best hotel bar none. Everyone was outstanding and I received top tier services. However, a few days after I checked out I received a bill for $69.12 that was charged on my credit card. I called the front desk and spoke to "Joyce". I told her I did not consume any of the drinks or snacks that were in the fridge. She told me she would delete the charge. After two phone calls later she was onsite and did not take my phone calls. I felt like I was ghosted. It's not about the amount of $69.12 .it's the principle. I received the best services ever at any hotel I ever stayed at. But this incident got me thinking what kind of people you guys have working for you. When someone tells me something...I expect for it to get handled. I have not received a call back from "Joyce" at the front desk either. Best Regards, LH"

"This will be a rather limited review as we only stayed for one night. For a hotel that is north of $1,000 a night, I expect more. The rooms need a bit of a refresh and feel rather dated - some may prefer the look of them. The service was rather spotty at times and almost felt aloof. Check in was smooth and the lobby is spacious. We had arrived early and were not too bothered about the category of room but had been informed we had been upgraded on my status. However, we had to wait 4 hours for the room to be ready. Thankfully they held our luggage whilst we went out and explored. We did not make use of the house car but LA is expansive and you won’t reach far given the radius that the house car can go in. It felt rather foolish to be chauffeured in a Rolls-Royce Phantom to an IHOP so we passed on this. The rooftop food was satisfactory at best - the bagel and pancakes felt dry but the views over the surrounding areas was what makes this a pleasant spot to dine in. I briefly perused the mini bar before realising there is an additional charge to restock the mini bar, on top of the cost of the items which feels rather ridiculous. The location is well suited in Beverly Hills but it’s not prime - other properties such as the Four Seasons are on the doorstep to Rodeo Drive and so feel more suited. We did not check out facilities. Check out was smooth. Would I return? Probably not. I would be more inclined to give the Four Seasons a shot or even the Peninsula across the road."

"True luxury. From the moment you walk in, signature scent at the property sets the tone for what’s to come. Intimate and luxurious art deco finishes at every corner. Everything is done to a certain level and no expense spared in creating a quality experience for guests. I loved the room finishes, the leather lining of the walls and the beautiful balcony. The spa and pool were also lovely. The real highlight is the rooftop restaurant, the views man, the views…the food also matched the views..Undeniably relaxing stay."

"Staying with friends at the "luxury hotel" I went down to the lobby bar for a drink & food. Being the only one at the bar I sat there for 5 minutes before a bartender even appeared when he did I didn't get his name (no name tag, didn't introduce himself) What surprised me the most was his lack of interpersonal & communication skills, asking if I could order food at the bar he asked would you like a menu? Would I like a menu? The night before I went to the roof top bar at the Hilton next door, excellent service but here was so disappointing. I noticed he continually left the bar going thru a door to the right at the bar over and over again like he didn't want to be there and had no interest in the customer at the bar, I've always said it's one thing to not like your job just don't show it, big fail here do better, not feeling like a valued customer and being disrespected is very disappointing -2"
