PB hotel design editorial

Spread across twenty acres of the Los Carneros appellation, where Napa and Sonoma counties meet at the cool southern end of the valley, the idea behind Carneros Resort and Spa was deceptively simple: build something that looks as though it has always been there. The result is a compound of dark-brown board-and-batten cottages arranged like a working farm village, their pitched metal roofs and white-painted trim drawn directly from the agricultural vernacular of the surrounding wine country. The double-height lobby pavilion — visible in the images with its exposed king-post trusses painted white against dark-stained siding, clerestory glazing flooding the interior with vineyard light — anchors the property without overwhelming it. A pendant lamp suspended on rope from the ridge beam and wicker seating grouped around a dark stone-topped table keep the scale domestic rather than monumental. Guest cottages carry the agrarian mood indoors through vaulted ceilings with exposed beams, plantation shutters opening onto private garden terraces, and large framed botanical panels above the beds — pressed-flower compositions in sage, mustard, and blush that double as both headboard and artwork. Plaid wool throws at the foot of each bed and weathered grey timber nightstands complete a palette that feels assembled rather than designed. The restaurant's louvered pergola, lined with wicker armchairs at white-clothed tables beside a fieldstone fireplace wall, extends the property's commitment to a California farmhouse register that stops well short of rusticity.

"We had the most wonderful girls’ weekend at Carneros Resort and Spa, and it was truly unforgettable. From the moment we arrived, the entire property felt peaceful, luxurious, and welcoming — the perfect setting for a relaxing getaway with friends. The cottages were beautiful and private, the grounds were stunning, and every staff member we encountered was warm and attentive. We enjoyed lunch at the Market, wine tasting at Post, and dinner at Farm. I highly recommend dining on property. All three experiences were five stars and exceeded our expectations. One of the most thoughtful touches happened when we arrived at our room and found a complimentary bottle of sparkling wine waiting for us, along with a kind note from Managing Director Edward Costa. It was such a generous surprise and meant so much because we were celebrating our friend before she undergoes hip replacement surgery at the end of the month. That level of personal care and attention made the weekend feel even more special. Thank you to Mr. Costa and the entire team at Carneros Resort and Spa for helping make this girls’ getaway so memorable. We felt so well taken care of and can’t wait to come back!"

"We just had an amazing experience at Carneros Resort. The grounds are wonderful. The room is comfortable and attractive, the pool is an ideal 82 degrees and the scenery is perfect! We had the complimentary Continental Breakfast and it was an amazing spread of choices from arrogated fresh fruit, pastries, hard boiled eggs, quiche, charcuterie, oatmeal, and yogurt. We had dinner at Farm restaurant and service was impeccable. Everyone is friendly and helpful. We definitely will be back!"

"Carneros Resort & Spa is such a special place. It somehow manages to combine luxury with a cozy, relaxed cottage atmosphere that makes you feel comfortable the moment you arrive. All of the accommodations are individual cottages (with some multi-bedroom options available), each with its own private, enclosed backyard and outdoor shower. My cottage even had an outdoor soaking tub, which quickly became one of my favorite features of the stay. It’s the kind of amenity you don’t realize you need until you have it. The backyards are surprisingly spacious and thoughtfully designed. In addition to the outdoor shower and tub, there were padded lounge chairs and a fire pit with seating, making it the perfect place to relax with a glass of wine in the evening. The property itself is surrounded by vineyards with beautiful views of the surrounding hillsides, which really makes you feel immersed in wine country. Inside the cottage, the design continues to impress. There’s a gas fireplace, a large bathroom with heated floors (which I absolutely loved), and one of the best minibars I’ve ever encountered. It was stocked with a great selection of local snacks and drinks, and even included puzzles and games, which felt like a really thoughtful touch. The beds also feature adjustable comfort technology that allows each side to be customized for firmness. The dining options on property are also excellent. Hilltop Restaurant offers both buffet and à la carte breakfast, and the breakfast spread was easily one of the best hotel breakfasts I’ve experienced. Boon Fly Café is a casual spot known for comfort food and fantastic donuts, while FARM Restaurant and Bar offers more elevated, Italian-inspired dishes. There is also a Market on property with grab-and-go food, coffee, and a really nice gift shop. There’s no shortage of things to do around the resort either. The property offers daily wellness classes, farm tours (there are chickens and a culinary garden on site), and other activities throughout the week. There are two pools — one adults-only with a large hot tub overlooking the vineyards, and another that is more family-friendly. The resort also has pickleball courts. One of the most unique perks is the fleet of Cadillac SUVs that guests can borrow for up to six hours per day to explore nearby wineries, which is an incredible bonus when visiting Napa. Overall, Carneros is a fantastic option for a wide range of travelers. It would be perfect for a romantic getaway, a family trip, or even a group celebration like a milestone birthday or bachelorette weekend. The combination of private cottages, beautiful scenery, and great food makes it a truly memorable place to stay in Napa Valley."

"Come annually for our birthdays and it's always fabulous but seemed even more so this time; from pulling up to leaving, the staff are incredibly attentive and engaged, as befits a luxe resort. The resort itself remains as beautiful as always, but also had two great meals (one at the Farm and the other at Boon Fly) and great weather and all in all a fabulous resort"
