PB hotel design editorial

Spread across twenty acres of the Los Carneros appellation, where Napa and Sonoma counties meet at the cool southern end of the valley, the idea behind Carneros Resort and Spa was deceptively simple: build something that looks as though it has always been there. The result is a compound of dark-brown board-and-batten cottages arranged like a working farm village, their pitched metal roofs and white-painted trim drawn directly from the agricultural vernacular of the surrounding wine country. The double-height lobby pavilion — visible in the images with its exposed king-post trusses painted white against dark-stained siding, clerestory glazing flooding the interior with vineyard light — anchors the property without overwhelming it. A pendant lamp suspended on rope from the ridge beam and wicker seating grouped around a dark stone-topped table keep the scale domestic rather than monumental. Guest cottages carry the agrarian mood indoors through vaulted ceilings with exposed beams, plantation shutters opening onto private garden terraces, and large framed botanical panels above the beds — pressed-flower compositions in sage, mustard, and blush that double as both headboard and artwork. Plaid wool throws at the foot of each bed and weathered grey timber nightstands complete a palette that feels assembled rather than designed. The restaurant's louvered pergola, lined with wicker armchairs at white-clothed tables beside a fieldstone fireplace wall, extends the property's commitment to a California farmhouse register that stops well short of rusticity.

"Our stay at Carneros Resort and Spa was truly exceptional. The property is beautiful, relaxing, and everything we hoped it would be, but what really set this experience apart was the people. Every member of the staff we encountered was warm, attentive, professional, and genuinely caring. Taylor and Jennifer, in particular, went far above and beyond to help make my wife’s 60th birthday celebration incredibly special and memorable. The level of thoughtfulness, hospitality, and attention to detail they showed us was truly remarkable. We travel often, and it is rare to find a property where the service feels this personal and sincere. Carneros created an experience we will remember for a very long time, and we are already planning our next visit."

"This was our second trip to Carneros Resort - the first time was with friends in 2017. This visit was with family and this experience even exceeded the first! The Farm restaurant was excellent, great live music at the outdoor bar created a relaxed and fun evening, and we enjoyed the cornhole and bocce ball in the green space. Breakfast by the pool offered an abundant buffet and heavenly view! My husband and I enjoyed the 4-mile walk (concierge-provided map) around the gorgeous vineyards just outside the property. The staff was very warm and welcoming. Overall the property is unmatched and just stunning this time of year with lush gardens and unique flowers at every turn. Just a dreamy place to unwind and replenish!"

"Our stay at the Carneros Resort was a total joy. We loved our private little cottage. The breakfast was memorable with delicious buffet and view of the surrounding hills and vineyards...and gorgeous large pool. The entire property seems like a botanic garden with many species represented in beautiful color. There are vegetables and herbs growing everywhere, and served up in the dining rooms. There is something for everyone...spa, pools, bocce ball, pickleball, live music, restaurants, excellent service and so on. The location is excellent for exploring both the Napa Valley and the Sonoma Wine Country. We will return!!"

"I am currently on property staying here and we are so disappointed. If you’re looking at this place, you’re likely aware it isn’t cheap. The rates run the same as some never five stars in the area. We decided on Carneros, since it had the private cottages and outdoor area. Like many have said, check-in was hectic. The line was long, but it did move fast. That being said, it felt rushed and we didn’t fell well-informed about the place in general. When arriving to our room, we found no had towels. We texted for some and after dinner found that more bath towels had been delivered. We also asked that the floor be cleaned. It had sticky stains right near the fireplace. Those were not cleaned. The outdoor shower had spider webs and the patio furniture was covered in leaves. Day two housekeeping did not leave washcloths. We texted the line they gave us and after an hour, I called. When the lady showed up, she had napkins. This was super frustrating. The room is also needing service. One of the lamps flicker when dimmed. The door to the mini fridge is hanging off, the shower door to outside has scum all over it and the curtains are literally hanging on by a thread. Also, there is a container for bath salts, but none provided. I left the lid off, hoping they’d refill, but no luck. I’ve wanted to stay here for years, but I wish we would have chosen elsewhere."
