PB hotel design editorial

Fieldstone walls built from the same volcanic cobble that surfaces throughout Yountville's historic core give Hotel Yountville its most immediate material argument — that a hotel can belong to a wine country town rather than merely arrive in one. The 80-room property, developed on a site that draws from the village's agricultural vernacular, deploys rough-hewn stone masonry alongside timber-framed balconies and columnar Italian cypresses that press close to the building's facade, blurring the boundary between architecture and landscape. The effect is closer to a Tuscan hill village than a conventional California resort, though the detailing stays firmly grounded in the Northern California craft tradition. Interiors designed by Candra Scott carry that outdoor materiality inward without losing warmth. White-painted board-and-batten ceilings with exposed trusses arch over sitting rooms furnished in layered neutrals — linen sofas, Regency-influenced side chairs in cognac leather, driftwood coffee tables with glass tops set on natural root bases. Guest rooms follow the same logic: iron four-poster beds dressed in cream canopy panels, wide-plank weathered oak floors, stone fireplaces set into rubble-work surrounds, French doors opening onto private patios screened by the property's characteristic dry-stacked stone walls. The pool terrace, flanked by oversized lanterns and clipped cypress columns, carries that disciplined rusticity all the way to the water's edge.

"Our stay at Hotel Yountville was exceptional. The property is beautiful and captures the charm of wine country perfectly. The rooms were spacious, well-appointed, and designed for comfort, with thoughtful touches throughout. The staff was warm, attentive, and made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. The location is ideal—just a short walk to town and perfectly situated to make getting around the greater Napa Valley and Sonoma area incredibly easy. A wonderful blend of luxury and convenience—we can’t wait to return!"

"The prices would suggest a five star property, but in reality, this is average at best. The lack of service is really glaring. There was no one to greet us upon arrival (no bellman outside or at the door), we loaded up our own luggage cart. Someone did show up eventually and help us get to our rooms. We had 5 rooms, one was not ready until almost 5pm. My room had not one accessible outlet - no plugs on the nightstands or anywhere near the bed for charging phones. Fridge did not cool anything. Other rooms we saw had plantation shutters on their patio doors, we had thin fabric shades that looked like they were from the dollar store that did not block anything. If you are assigned room 603, immediately say no and ask for a different room. Our front door looked out onto the dumpsters, construction, and what appeared to be an employee parking lot, judging from the staff sitting in their cars outside of our room. Our patio doors opened up onto the fireplace area off the lobby, so there was a constant stream of traffic and noise. We could not open our doors at all. We did ask to change rooms, but were told that would not be possible until two nights into our stay and then not until the evening. Two of the rooms in our group had been renovated and were much nicer. The front desk needs some help - literally. The many times my husband attempted to call were met with frustration. The woman (who I won’t name) repeatedly called me the wrong name and seemed annoyed that I corrected her. The outdoor fireplace area was not cleaned up until later each day from the night before, so it was constantly littered with glassware. The spa lost my reservation, despite the fact that I made it 2 months prior. Maritsa at the spa was incredibly helpful and apologetic. She was the BEST employee I encountered at this entire hotel. Thank you again Maritsa for fixing the mistake of your coworker (who I won’t name). Chris the bartender was excellent. Housekeeping also did a great job as our room was always sparkling. Don’t waste your money here. Stay across the street at the Hotel Villagio where they have their act together."

"We stayed here for three nights and it is perfectly situated in Yountville. Hotel room was amazing with just one exception. Pool and hot tub were quaint and staff were friendly. We stayed in a renovated room with a fireplace and a private patio. The only complaint was the lack of plugs bedside and at the desk. Also make sure to check your bill on your way out."

"Spent an entire week here for our Honeymoon, and it was like a dream! The room was absolutely beautiful and had a gorgeous fireplace, balcony and a luxurious (and large!) jetted bathtub. The location was perfect as it allowed us to walk to several restaurants and wine tastings. The service was outstanding- The Front Desk associates were always attentive and ready to help with anything we needed. Housekeeping was honestly the best of any hotel I've ever stayed at. After returning back to the hotel at the end of each day, our room was always spotless, and the daily turndown service with chocolates was such a lovely touch. We had breakfast almost every morning at Heritage Oak, which was a delight as everything was consistently delicious, and the service at Heritage Oak was superb. Room Service was outstanding as well. We also had a couples massage at the Spa, and it was one of the best massages I've ever had. I could go on and on about how amazing everything was, but it really was beyond our expectations in all regards. We can't wait to return to Hotel Yountville on our next trip to the Napa Valley area."
