PB hotel design editorial

Tucked into a forested bowl of the Mayacamas foothills above St. Helena, where second-growth redwoods and coast live oaks close in on all sides, Meadowood Napa Valley has spent decades refining a particular fantasy — that a luxury resort can feel like a private sporting club inherited rather than built. The 250-acre property, arranged as a loose constellation of white-painted board-and-batten cottages stepping up wooded hillsides, draws from Arts and Crafts and New England vernacular traditions, the gabled rooflines and painted timber detailing giving the whole compound the atmosphere of a long-established country retreat. Exposed rafter tails, vaulted ceilings with white-painted scissor trusses, and stone fireplaces stacked with split wood characterize the cottage interiors, which lean on dark-stained oak furniture, woven wool rugs, and linen upholstery rather than anything that would announce itself as designed. The suites run toward a warmer, more edited register — wide-plank floors, slipcovered sofas positioned around low linear fireplaces, Roman shades in natural linen filtering the oak-filtered light — while the newer restaurant pavilion shifts tone entirely, its yellow-and-white striped retractable canopy and stainless-steel bar bringing a market-hall freshness to the dining terrace. The lap pool, flanked by teak loungers and canvas umbrellas beneath a cathedral of Douglas fir, sits at the center of the property's social geometry. Throughout, the design avoids the anxious refinement common to Napa properties, trusting the landscape to carry the weight.

"From start to finish, our experience at Meadowood exceeded every expectation. We facilitated an executive workshop here, and Miranda Aswad was absolutely phenomenal. She went above and beyond to ensure every detail was perfect - from helping us choose the right venue and sending detailed pictures and room dimensions, to arranging overnight printing and even having golf carts ready to shuttle our attendees at the end of each day. Every aspect of our event was handled with efficiency, professionalism, and genuine care. We had some unusual requests (e.g., WD‑40 for squeaky door hinges or help with returning workshop materials), and not once did we feel like our asks were too much. Miranda was a true partner and approached everything with a “we’ve got this” attitude. My colleagues and I kept joking that Meadowood was like Disney for working professionals - everything magically worked. It’s rare to find a team so committed to excellence, and Meadowood truly delivered. We would come back here in a heartbeat and cannot say enough amazing things about Miranda and the entire team."

"Serene, bathed in nature, tree house like escape. Fall asleep in front of cozy crackling log fires and awake to the sound of birds chirping on your hill top terrace. Bliss!"

"This facility is a respite from the traffic and hustle of the Napa Valley, nestled among the trees in a beautiful natural setting with wooded trails and wild life, a selection of pools and spas, full service fitness center and garden to table fine dining at Forum. we enjoyed easy acces to the Napa Valley Vintners Association Pavillion, etc and every need for our visit was anticipated and cared for, including rides to and from our rooms, if requested. The in-room amenities are very generous. I would definitely return."

"Once again, we enjoyed a perfect experience over a long weekend. There is something so peaceful about Meadowood. It was a rainy weekend, but the wood burning fireplace made the room a perfect retreat. The meals at the Forum were exceptional. We had friends over for a Sunday brunch that could not have been better. And, special thanks for the beautiful flowers in the room for my wife on Valentine's Day!"
