PB hotel design editorial

Indigo was never just a color choice at Holiday House Palm Springs — it was a declaration. When designer Waldo Fernandez oversaw the renovation of this 1951 mid-century motor court property in Palm Springs' Historic Tennis Club neighborhood, he committed to a palette of cobalt and white with the conviction of someone who understood that restraint in a desert resort can read as timidity. The two-story white stucco structure, with its flat roof, steel-railed exterior staircase, and ribbon windows, carries the modest geometry of postwar California motel architecture exactly as built — the intervention is entirely in how the spaces have been dressed. Inside, the lobby lounge sets the tone with cobalt-lacquered concrete floors, wicker armchairs upholstered in blue-and-white botanical prints, and a mid-century multi-arm brass floor lamp anchoring one corner beneath an urchin-style burst pendant. Guest rooms layer block-printed indigo bedspreads over cane-headboard beds against boldly patterned feature wallpaper — a graphic sunburst motif that stops just short of maximalist — while suites furnish their living areas with deep-navy sofas, oval marble-topped coffee tables on walnut stretcher bases, and abstract California art in warm ochre and terracotta. The kidney-shaped pool, ringed with vintage-style aluminum loungers beneath navy market umbrellas, frames the San Jacinto Mountains with the casual confidence of a property that knows its setting does most of the work.

Holiday House Palm Springs Reviews

"When looking online at the many hotels in Palm Springs, the photo of the charming blue and white chairs in the palm-accented breakfast area of the Holiday House hotel caught our eye. After reviewing the website and seeing that the hotel was downtown, we thought it looked like the perfect boutique hotel option. When we arrived, the Holiday House turned out to be even better than we imagined. The bright, bold blue and white-themed decor looks like it's straight out of a David Hockney painting--and every detail of the design has been carefully thought out. Our "Best"-level room was worth paying extra for and was roomy and comfortable. The breakfast area is cozy and the pool is lovely and relaxing. And even though you are only a block from downtown Palm Springs, you feel like you are in a private resort hideaway. The hotel draws a casually chic and quiet over-21 crowd, adding to the tranquil, design-forward ambiance."

"Perfect location and Palm Springs experience with Holiday House as home base. Spacious rooms and great ambiance around the property - whether hanging out at a cabana, in the lounge, or poolside. Fun vibe. I can't say enough about the staff - very welcoming and wanting to make sure you have a wonderful experience. Breakfast was great...loved that you could make up your tray and take it anywhere on property to enjoy, Many special touches. Walking distance to great restaurants, the PS Art Museum, galleries, and other shopping. Would definitely stay here again!"

"We have visited palm springs many times over the years. This was our third February trip out for Modernism Week. Based on the many positive reviews on Trip Advisor and other sites, HOLIDAY HOUSE seemed to be the kind of boutique hotel we would enjoy. Yes, indeed, we made the right choice! With 28 rooms surrounding an inviting pool, it is the perfect melding of intimacy and relaxed sophistication. It is just off the main drag. You will feel very private and yet step outside of the hotel and be close to absolutely everything. We stayed in two different rooms on the second floor. A "best" room with a balcony and a different room ("better" ?) without. We were quite happy to be on the second floor. Better views and not on top of the pool. If it works for you, go for the "Best! However, you cant go wrong with any room on the property. As for the restaurant, though we did not eat dinner on the property, we heard only good things! Continental breakfast is included and we very much enjoyed our first meal of the day in this lovely space. Nice choices - cereal, yogurt, fruit, cheeses, bagels, english muffins, hard boiled eggs, etc. I would be remiss if I did not give accolades to the very lovely, helpful and accommodating manager Rosemary. She exceeds what a manager typically does. AND, thank you Scott. You are a bright shining light with your exemplary customer service at the bar, pool & restaurant! Very much looking forward to a future stay at Holiday House!"
