PB hotel design editorial

Movie Colony, the Palm Springs neighborhood where Hollywood's golden-age elite built their desert retreats, supplies Terra Palm Springs with a setting that quietly elevates everything about it. The property is housed in a mid-century motor lodge — low-slung stucco volumes arranged around a central courtyard pool — whose original bones have been carefully preserved rather than erased. Flat rooflines, wide overhanging eaves, and warm timber stair railings carry the architectural register of 1950s desert modernism, while a sensitive renovation has layered in materials that feel genuinely of the place: flagstone pool surrounds, terracotta-toned lounge cushions, and redwood slatted privacy screens that echo the San Jacinto Mountains rising directly beyond. Inside, the rooms move between two complementary moods. Some lean warmer — wide-plank oak floors, jute rugs, a sculptural stacked-brick fireplace hood, terracotta accent cushions, and pendant lights in turned amber ceramic that bring to mind Baja vernacular more than Palm Springs glamour. Others are cooler and more graphic, with dark vertical timber slat wall panels behind the bed, woven textile wall hangings, and direct access to a private outdoor soaking tub framed by banana palms and desert plantings. The outdoor dining terrace, furnished with cane-backed teak benches, rope-weave chairs, and a low linear fire feature, frames the mountains at golden hour in a way that feels less like hotel programming and more like someone's very good private garden.

"We had the most amazing stay at Terra in Palm Springs! This small boutique hotel is truly a hidden gem. The views of the surrounding mountains are absolutely stunning and the entire property is designed for wellness. We enjoyed the beautiful pool and hot tub as well as the rain room and relaxing massages. Our room was spotless, stylish, and well designed. The staff was so attentive and even helped us secure early reservations at a very popular restaurant in town. Breakfast was simple but more than enough to start the day. If you’re looking for a peaceful, wellness-focused getaway in Palm Springs, Terra is the place to go."

"Just got back from a two night escape to Terra Palm Springs. A lot of good points to share but definitely a couple draw backs to keep in mind. First the goods - The room and the layout of the room is spectacular. Excellent rain shower, high quality linens, and a calming lovely vibe inside makes the room comfy. We loved the pool area with access to the pool, hot tub, cold plunge and sauna. I've become a frequent user of sauna and cold plunges and this place delivers. I do wish they also had a steam sauna but the services here were more than satisfying. The entire staff was overly kind and friendly and helpful so they all get an A plus. My biggest issue with the place is the location, it's right on a VERY busy street so you do hear street noise pretty much most of the day and annoyingly you hear it at night while trying to sleep. The rumblings of the cars certainly can disrupt your sleep. We also found the bed to be way too soft and mushy. Great beddings but we do prefer a much firmer bed. And we understood beforehand that it would be a light breakfast that is included with our stay, but we found to the breakfast to be VERY light. I wish there was MORE fruit options, maybe the option for warm eggs, maybe a smoothie option? Considering we spent close to $600 a night, having a more tranquil location and a fuller breakfast would be preferred... Still a great visit but definitely could have been bitter to earn that 5 star review."

"This is a wonderful place. It’s small, placed in a walled location, the rooms are comfortable and perfectly appointed with everything you might need, lovely pool and hot tub plus Himalayan salt sauna and a rain room! A bar on premises. Our room had a private courtyard with a large outdoor soaking tub. The bed, and especially the pillows, are fluffy and soft. Spa services are excellent. Ask for Jess. Interesting continental breakfast. Lunch if you want it delivered from an excellent restaurant called Workshop. Definitely recommend."

"LOVED this small boutique inn. It was just our style and speed. The self-paced wellness circuit was so nice. We went from rain room to pool to Himalayan Salt Spa to cold plunge several times and really felt the tension drain away. Hot tub at night was also a plus! They have a cute little bar area where they set up a high-quality continental breakfast daily 7-10am. Bar also served wine, beer and cocktails and lunch service is delivered from Michelin-starred Workshop Kitchen around the corner. They play mellow vibey music by the pool that adds to the relaxation. If you feel up to it, they have free cruisers you can borrow to tool around the Movie Colony neighborhood behind the hotel. The bed was so comfy, the bathroom was large and the walk in shower was perfect. The room also had a nice bar area and storage drawers. I recommend booking one of the rooms with a private patio, it was nice to have coffee and stretch out there in the morning. Staff was so friendly and helpful, everyone was warm and genuinely helpful. If you are looking for a "party" hotel, this is not it. If you are looking for relaxation in an upscale but down-to earth atmosphere, this is your place. We loved it!"
