PB hotel design editorial

Few American resort complexes carry the institutional weight of the Hotel del Coronado, the 1888 Victorian landmark designed by James and Merritt Reid whose red-conical turrets have presided over this San Diego peninsula beach for well over a century. Beach Village at The Del, the LXR Hotels & Resorts property carved from the resort's lower campus, takes a deliberately different approach — a village of white-painted, red-roofed cottage buildings arrayed along the sand, their low residential massing drawing the eye away from the historic main structure toward the Pacific horizon. The aerial view confirms what the floor plan promises: a compound rather than a tower, organized around a circular pool terrace ringed with navy-and-white striped cabana tents that establish the color story for the entire property. Inside, the rooms settle into a coastal register that feels considered without being precious — cognac leather platform beds, deep-piled navy abstract carpeting, white wainscoted wall paneling with crown molding, and pale oak case goods anchoring the palette in warmth. Bay windows frame Coronado Bay with the kind of unfussy directness that resort rooms rarely manage. The Serea restaurant terrace, furnished with teak banquettes and Carrara marble tabletops beneath a pergola, keeps the 1888 landmark visible in the background — a confident acknowledgment that heritage and contemporary hospitality can share the same stretch of beach without one diminishing the other. The beachside tiki bar, surfboards stacked against weathered timber, tips its hat cheerfully to Coronado's surf culture.

"We had a wonderful stay at Beach Village at the Del celebrating my 40th birthday. The property is beautiful, but what truly made our stay exceptional was the outstanding service. A special thank you to Jasmine, Aspen, and Norma for going above and beyond with their kindness and attention to detail. They made our family feel so welcome, and we can’t wait to come back."

"Coronado is a great choice if you come to San Diego. Of course the Del Coronado Hotel is infamous and we decided to stay there. After much research we decided on the Beach Village area to try to get a bit quieter atmosphere. We stayed in top floor Villa building and we had a nice view and room was very comfortable. It was recently mentioned in another review about the events taking place on the beach right in front of this area. We did experience that the first night and it was awful... very loud but they did stop at 10pm. You do run the risk of these events during your stay. They do a massive conference business. We tried some restaurants and they were good. One downside is no real "room service". WE like breakfast in the room and did use the "Del Dash" and that worked well...sort of an in house Door Dash. Otherwise it was a $50pp buffet which for us was not worth it. This place is very very busy and we were told that starting Memorial Day to Labor Day look out...it is crazy. We hit Mother's Day and that was busy enough. I would return as we really enjoyed it. Perfect weather, nice heated pools and easy walk to the center of the town for other dining options. Expensive but often you can find deals that really take that cost down."

"We had an amazing stay at Hotel del Coronado Beach Village while celebrating a special family occasion, and Sasha, our concierge, truly helped ensure the experience was unforgettable. She went above and beyond to make everything special, from coordinating our room decor request beautifully and arranging custom desserts with their chef, to ordering gorgeous flowers and helping secure dinner reservations at our favorite restaurant. Sasha’s service was exceptional as she frequently checked on us. She showed kindness, professionalism, and attention to detail throughout our stay. We felt well cared for and genuinely appreciated all the thoughtful touches that made our trip so memorable. Sasha is the best, and the team overall was great. They were very friendly, covered for each other well when Sasha left for the day. They even got us into a sold out tour on our last night. But we definitely want to acknowledge Sasha and extend our biggest thank you to her for helping create such a wonderful experience!"
