PB hotel design editorial

Few American resort complexes carry the institutional weight of the Hotel del Coronado, the 1888 Victorian landmark designed by James and Merritt Reid whose red-conical turrets have presided over this San Diego peninsula beach for well over a century. Beach Village at The Del, the LXR Hotels & Resorts property carved from the resort's lower campus, takes a deliberately different approach — a village of white-painted, red-roofed cottage buildings arrayed along the sand, their low residential massing drawing the eye away from the historic main structure toward the Pacific horizon. The aerial view confirms what the floor plan promises: a compound rather than a tower, organized around a circular pool terrace ringed with navy-and-white striped cabana tents that establish the color story for the entire property. Inside, the rooms settle into a coastal register that feels considered without being precious — cognac leather platform beds, deep-piled navy abstract carpeting, white wainscoted wall paneling with crown molding, and pale oak case goods anchoring the palette in warmth. Bay windows frame Coronado Bay with the kind of unfussy directness that resort rooms rarely manage. The Serea restaurant terrace, furnished with teak banquettes and Carrara marble tabletops beneath a pergola, keeps the 1888 landmark visible in the background — a confident acknowledgment that heritage and contemporary hospitality can share the same stretch of beach without one diminishing the other. The beachside tiki bar, surfboards stacked against weathered timber, tips its hat cheerfully to Coronado's surf culture.

"Overall, an amazing group of people. I had a small issue in which I had lost some items on property and went to Claire at thebeach villas office and she was beyond amazing. Her and her team scoured the property, contacted housekeeping, got in touch with the valets and even got security to look at the cameras to locate the items. It’s rare that you see such ownership and true desire to just help and be helpful. I want to say a big thanks to Claire, Jorge, Moises and anyone else I forgot. just amazing people. And let’s not look past the fact that the property is absolutely stunning, in a great location and has every amenity you could look for."

"We just came back again this spring, and somehow Beach Village still manages to impress us every single time. After coming here for so many years, you would think it might start to feel routine, but it really doesn’t. It still feels special every time we arrive. The setting is honestly hard to beat. It’s right on the beach, but it feels quiet and private, almost like you’re in your own separate resort. That’s something we really appreciate, especially during busier times of the year. The biggest reason we keep coming back, though, is the people. Sandra, the Front Office Manager at Beach Village. She is always so kind, welcoming, and on top of everything. You can tell she really cares about the guests and about the experience as a whole. Every time we see her, she makes us feel remembered and taken care of, and that means a lot. And is very hardworking. She sets the tone for the entire team. Dan was also great this trip. Super professional, very attentive, and always ready to help with anything we needed. He made everything feel easy and smooth, which really adds to the overall experience. We also want to give a lot of credit to Alix Skinner in marketing. ur tradition since she worked in Beach Village we have always gone to do the Roast on the beach after dinner. It is always such a special and magical memory. Everything about Beach Village feels so well put together, from the look and feel of the property to the overall experience. It feels intentional and consistent in a way that stands out, and that really shows. The cottages are always clean, modern, and comfortable. Nothing ever feels outdated or overlooked. It’s clear they put a lot of effort into maintaining everything at a high level. Access to the Ocean Club is another huge plus. It’s such a nice, quiet place to eat, and it adds to that private Beach Village feel that you don’t really get elsewhere at the hotel. At the end of the day, it’s the consistency that keeps us coming back. The service, the setting, and the overall experience are always great. This spring trip was just another reminder of why we love it so much."
