"The staff are lovely. And the pillows and bed are comfortable. Beyond that, a lot of this hotel seems 3 star at best and lots of contradictions--schizophrenic even. Examples. --High end soap and shampoo, yet small, scratchy towels. --Well lit bathroom, but annoying motion sensor bright light that assaults you in the middle of the night (I finally hung a towel to cover the sensor). --Pretty marble bathroom floor, but a cheapo fiberglass shower floor. --Clothes steamer and awesome hairdryer, but no makeup mirror. --Smeg toaster in the breakfast area, but wonder bread type of bread. --Hallway coffee, but the armoire door won't stay open while you make the coffee and you have to stand against it to prop it open, leaning against all the candy containers. The list goes on. It's like someone had some idea of high end but just never figured out how to fully execute it. Or didn't care enough to or ran out of funding. Other comments. Positive: I arrived at 10 a.m. and the front desk let me check in and go to the room, with a smile. No annoying early check in fee (especially since I was leaving at 6 a.m. on departure day--do they ever give you a discount for leaving early??). Anyway, being able to go to my room so early was wonderful. The desk staff was consistently friendly and pleasant. Breakfast was no better than a Hampton Inn. And that's generous. Lukewarm scrambled eggs. No hard boiled eggs. (Some meat and pancakes as well are included). No individual yogurt containers--just a bowl of Greek yogurt to scoop from. No nuts or healthy seeds to add in. (There was cut up fresh fruit). No cheese. No fresh baked local pastries except tiny muffins that looked store bought and not bakery quality. It wasn't awful, but it certainly wasn't 4 star hotel quality. You can't turn on the shower without getting wet, and the toiletries are mounted REALLY high. And did I mention--no makeup mirror. Also, very little counter space. I had the room cleaned once, and it was cursory at best. Bed made nicely, but floor not swept, small decorative pillows on the chairs not straightened. You can take the stairs to your floor rather than the elevator, but it's somewhat dingy. Would be nice to make the stairwells more inviting. The overall hallways are very dark--someone's idea of "moody" I'm sure, but I didn't care for it. The room itself had light and felt bright. Overall, I don't really understand the high praise, but maybe it depends on a guest's typical stay and expectations for a 4 star hotel. I feel bad writing all these negative things since the lobby is very welcoming and the staff were so nice, but the hotel was disappointing. (Also note, the area is pretty sketchy. Lots of unhoused nearby)."
