Perched directly above the sand in San Diego's Pacific Beach neighborhood, where the boardwalk meets one of Southern California's most reliably surfed stretches of coastline, Tower23 Hotel presents a white stucco-and-glass volume that owes more to Miami's South Beach modernism than to the shingle-and-shutter vernacular that dominates much of California's beachfront hospitality. The three-story structure, completed in 2005, pushes its glazed facade as close to the bluff edge as local codes permit, stacking private balconies in a rhythm of aluminum-framed sliding doors that frame uninterrupted Pacific views from nearly every angle. The interiors take a restrained mid-century approach — flat-profile walnut bed frames, walnut millwork running the full width of the guestroom walls, and sage-green loop-pile carpet that anchors the palette without competing with the natural light flooding in from each balcony. Furnishings are deliberately unfussy: low-slung platform beds in white linens, integrated desk-and-dresser units in warm-toned timber veneer, and charcoal upholstered seating that keeps the eye moving toward the glass. The courtyard terrace, set one level above the boardwalk, organizes a lap pool and succulent plantings around large-format concrete pavers, with teak benches and turquoise lounge furniture providing the only real color. The rooftop bar, JRDN, carries the same material language upward — a wood-paneled ceiling, white quartz bar counter edged in seafoam lacquer, and wraparound windows opening the entire space toward the water.

"This is our regular PB vacation pad.V ery nice hotel with well trained staffing - valet parking - very clean. Tends to be geared more towards adults as there is no pool.On the upper end for costs but worth it!"

"From the time I pulled up to valet to checkout the service was awesome. Everyone was professional, attentive and so kind. The area around the hotel has so many food options and we felt safe walking on the beach at night and walking on the Main road. Nat, Luica, Katrina, Austin, and Alicia were all absolutely awesome. The sushi in the restaurant was so delicious. The beds felt like I was sleeping on clouds. Having valet was so awesome and helpful. They get a 10/10 from me. We had a challenge with our room and they took care of it immediately. The views alone are worth the stay. If you’re considering staying do it. Have one experience and then you can decide for yourself. I stayed because my friend from San Diego said you have to stay there at least one time and now I’m hooked. Enjoy your stay."

"We have stayed at this hotel almost since it opened and I have never seen the transformation of a property like they have done recently. The staff is four seasons quality, extremely attentive, totally focused on the customer the cleanest, hotel and rooms we have stayed at in any property and the perfect location on the best beach in America!"

"My husband and I stayed at Tower23 for five nights in late June and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. I booked this stay as incentive to get me through a difficult year of teaching and our stay did not disappoint. We were amazed by the view from our room (even better than the pictures I looked at frequently before our trip)! We thoroughly enjoyed the quality restaurant and had three breakfasts and one dinner there. We totally appreciated the friendly service throughout the hotel which included a complimentary bottle of prosecco upon our arrival! We highly recommend this hotel."
