PB hotel design editorial

Rising 48 floors above the Financial District at 345 California Street, the slender tower that houses the Four Seasons San Francisco at Embarcadero was designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and completed in 2001 as part of a mixed-use development sharing its base with the Embarcadero Center complex. The building's pale aluminum cladding and chamfered profile give it a distinctly vertical emphasis, visible in the images as it tapers skyward above its older brick and limestone neighbors — a contrast that marks the hotel's position at the edge of the city's historic commercial core and its newer waterfront district. The interiors, refreshed in recent years, carry a palette of warm taupe and greige anchored by wide-plank wood flooring and geometric area rugs in terracotta, slate, and charcoal. Guest rooms at upper floors frame panoramic views of the Bay Bridge and Marin headlands through floor-to-ceiling bronze-trimmed windows, the furnishings — a round black marble-topped occasional table, cognac leather ottomans, crimson upholstered armchairs — chosen for a quietly contemporary residential register rather than corporate anonymity. The ground-floor restaurant and bar lean into a mid-century-inflected warmth: walnut wall paneling, hammered copper-glass room dividers set in black steel frames, pendant fixtures strung like candlelight, and a bar counter faced with fluted brass detail that gives the space a low, amber glow well suited to a city that has always taken its cocktail hour seriously.

Four Seasons San Francisco at Embarcadero Reviews

"The Four Seasons Embarcadero delivered on every expectation. Through FHR we were upgraded to a stunning bay-view room on the 48th floor, with a sweeping panorama of the Golden Gate Bridge — easily the finest view we've encountered across all our San Francisco stays. Worth noting for first-time guests: the hotel occupies roughly floors 38–48, so it's a boutique property by Four Seasons standards. This is reflected in the single restaurant and a lobby more intimate than you might anticipate — but neither felt like a shortcoming. If anything, the scale lends the place a refined, unhurried atmosphere. Staff were consistently warm and professional. Dining was excellent — food quality was high and service both prompt and polished. The location is a genuine asset as well: a short, pleasant walk to the Embarcadero piers, in a stretch of the city that feels noticeably cleaner than many other SF neighborhoods. For travelers who prioritize extraordinary views paired with an intimate luxury experience, this is an easy recommendation."

"Stayed here many times though never left a review. I love this place. My wife and I usually come for our anniversary and I've always wanted to bring the kids here so this was our first family trip. Getting the stuffed animals at check in was magical for them and I'm sure something they will always remember. I am always impressed with the service from the valets to the check in staff and housekeeping. Everyone is always so nice and accommodating. As always, I look forward to our next visit. No issues to report other than that once you stay here, it is difficult to stay anywhere else."

"We had a great experience at the Four Seasons Hotel San Francisco at the Embarcadero. The staff is friendly, the food is excellent, the views are amazing, the location is ideal, and the rooms are well appointed. Also, it's not a large hotel so you there is a more intimate feel. Jacquelyn (Jackie) manages the hotel and is wonderful. She is very nice and goes above and beyond for the guests. We would return to this hotel just for her."

"My husband and I had an amazing two-night stay at the Four Seasons Embarcadero in San Francisco. We booked one night through Amex Platinum and the second through Chase Luxury Travel, which both offered various benefits for doing so. When we arrived, Sequoia did a great job handling check-in—and informed us that we had been upgraded from a city view to a bay view room, one of the aforementioned benefits. Our room was beautiful and did indeed have incredible views of the skyline and bay, including Coit Tower, Alcatraz, and the Transamerica Pyramid. One morning, we had breakfast at Orafo, and the second morning, we ordered room service—both excellent (with breakfast credits included as benefits through Amex and Chase). I also used the gym—which was not huge, but clean and well-maintained. Last December, we stayed at the Four Seasons on Market Street. How do the two properties compare? Both are great; my husband preferred the one on Market Street, while I preferred Embarcadero (which is on Sansome Street). The advantages of Market Street are a more central location and access to the Equinox Sports Club (which has a pool). The advantages of Embarcadero are a newer building (more recently renovated), more of a boutique feel, and nicer views. But really, you can’t go wrong—both are fabulous. Thanks to the Four Seasons Embarcadero for the magnificent hospitality!"
