PB hotel design editorial

Rising above SoMa on Third Street with SFMOMA as its immediate neighbor, the 40-story tower designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill gives the St. Regis San Francisco a cultural address that few luxury hotels in the city can match. Completed in 2005, the building's glass-and-limestone curtain wall steps back as it climbs, the pale green-tinted glazing catching the Bay's diffuse light in a way that distinguishes it from the harder commercial towers surrounding it. The hotel fills the lower 19 floors of a mixed-use structure containing 260 guest rooms, with residences occupying the upper reaches. The interiors, refreshed in recent years, work a palette of terracotta, warm walnut, blush-toned carpet, and cognac leather that pulls the California light indoors without straining for a West Coast cliché. Guest rooms carry large-format abstract works — fragmented stone compositions visible in the images — framed against white walls and floor-to-ceiling windows that frame SFMOMA's Mario Botta facade and the broader Financial District skyline. The food and beverage spaces demonstrate a more theatrical ambition: the bar and lounge are wrapped in vaulted brass latticework and furnished with teal velvet bucket chairs, coral banquettes, and graphic diamond-patterned barstools, the herringbone oak floor anchoring what might otherwise tip into excess. The all-day dining room takes a lighter hand, green ceramic tile, sheer linen curtains, and marble-topped tables composing a room that feels closer to a well-considered San Francisco restaurant than a hotel amenity.

St. Regis Hotel San Francisco Reviews

"I stayed for 2 nights in August. I made my booking through Amex Travel, which included perks like a room upgrade, late checkout, breakfast, and a hotel credit. I arrived at the hotel late and was greeted by a very friendly staff member who told me my room had already been upgraded. The whole process took less than 5 minutes. Upon entering the room, I was amazed by the attention to detail. There were water bottles placed beside the bed, turndown service had already been done, and there was a dessert plate and a gift for my son. The room itself was also very nice, very clean, and big enough for two people. One thing that really stood out to me was the customer service. I had a 4 PM checkout, but I got caught in traffic and called the front desk to ask if it would be possible to extend my checkout until 5 PM. The person helping me simply said, "No problem, we'll extend it to 5 PM." Very impressed with the customer service! Overall, I had a wonderful stay and will definitely book again the next time I'm in San Francisco."

"Wonderful staff. Very Nice Area. The front desk extremely helpful and friendly and treat you so damn well. My Bonvoy Platinum Elite Status was acknowledged. I was in Room 1904 and the view of the city was Nice. They have a $45 + tax destination fee but the return is more than worth it, unlike other hotels that charge you junk resort fees."

"Location is very good, the atmosphere in the common areas is fine, however, not as good as other St. Regis properties. The restaurant and bar are on first floor and relatively not noteworthy. The service for lunch and breakfast in the restaurant was excellent. The service at the bar in the evenings was inconsistent. Overall the room was good and the housekeeping staff was fantastic. The bathroom setup was a little odd as the door to the toilet didn't close all the way. The value was not great for price paid but the stay was good. The room was very clean and turn down service was excellent. The noise level was good and no issue at all. Overall a solid, if not exceptional, option to stay in San Fran."

"My wife and I chose The St. Regis San Francisco to celebrate my birthday, and we had a wonderful experience from start to finish. We were pleasantly surprised with a complimentary upgrade to the Astor Suite, and the butler service made the stay feel even more special. Robson Boscarioli welcomed us to the suite, gave us a thoughtful introduction to its features, and arranged complimentary pressing. Later that evening, butler Arjun Saud surprised us with macarons, fresh fruit, and a personalized birthday message waiting in our room. One of our favorite touches was returning from dinner to find the room beautifully prepared for the evening. The turndown service, relaxing music, and pillow spray created such a welcoming atmosphere. I'd also like to thank Chief Concierge Daniel Rey, whose communication before our arrival helped make the celebration feel special from the very beginning. The hotel is beautiful, but what really stood out was the hospitality. Every interaction—from the concierge team and butlers to the front desk staff, felt warm, genuine, and attentive. Thank you to everyone at The St. Regis San Francisco for helping make my birthday celebration so memorable. We truly appreciated all of the thoughtful touches and look forward to returning."
