PB hotel design editorial

At the base of Beaver Creek Mountain, where the Buckaroo Express gondola deposits skiers directly onto the village plaza, a six-story limestone-clad structure conceived in the European alpine tradition has anchored Colorado's most planned ski resort since 1989. The Park Hyatt Beaver Creek Resort and Spa was built as a centerpiece for Vail Associates' vision of a pedestrian village modeled loosely on Tyrolean precedent — dormered rooflines, arched colonnades, and rusticated stone base courses giving the 190-room property the massing of an Austrian grand hotel rather than anything indigenous to the Rockies. The interiors tell two stories. The original guest rooms carry the warm, traditional register of the building's exterior — dark mahogany four-poster beds, carved casework painted lacquer red, patterned drapes framing curved bay windows that pull in mountain panoramas. A subsequent renovation introduced a sharper contemporary sensibility into certain rooms and, most dramatically, into the lobby bar: a double-height space now anchored by a vast emperor marble bar top, dark coffered paneling, brass-detailed fireplace surround, and a cascading installation of hand-blown glass pendants that hang like suspended ice crystals above the room. The outdoor pool deck, positioned directly beneath the gondola terminal and framed by aspen groves, gives the property its most honest gesture — a simple terrace of sandstone pavers and canvas umbrellas where the mountain does all the work.

"Beaver Creek is a charming little village that offers numerous amenities from great dining to breath taking views to immersions in nature to a variety of the arts and to a pace that entices you to enjoy the overall experience. The Park Hyatt is a beautiful hotel that perfectly fits this community. It is very well run with the guest experience obviously being its highest priority. The hotel and rooms are clean, well appointed, well serviced and modern. (And everything works!) The hotel also offers a wide variety of services and amenities. The staff are wonderfully customer centric and very approachable for any need or question or opportunity to help. The views are also spectacular. The food offerings are creative and delicious. SPECIAL NOTE - we were there during the Cyclosporiasis outbreak. Though Colorado is not one of the states that was seriously impacted, I quickly learned that the kitchen was taking any and all measures to insure that the food that was served was safe. I was impressed! Finally, as I like to do, I met the hotel GM. Edan is a smart, experienced and caring man who clearly has the hotel and staff operating in a professional, harmonious and customer centric manner. I was impressed. My wife and I have become annual guests and already look forward to our next visit."

"Overall the resort is beautiful and well maintained. The rooms are nice and clean and we're also well maintained. I was very dissatisfied by the quality of the food as well as the cost for the mediocre experience. I also was surprised at the cost of the spa services. My spa experience was quite lovely but I have had the same level of spa experience in other places for much less cost."

"Gorgeous hotel in a beautiful location! We could not have wanted anything more. Our room was perfect overlooking the pool and mountain. Buffet breakfast was great as were the drinks in the bar. We spent an afternoon at the pool after hiking and the pool area was wonderful as was the young lady in the poolhouse! We loved everything about our hotel and Beaver Creek Village!"

"Great property and location/setting, poor service. Need to invest in training of staff to achieve a service level which matches the property level and price point."

"We loved our 4 nights at the Park Hyatt Beaver Creek. We were family of 7; 2 children 6 and 9 and 5 adults and there was something for everyone. The activities for children were endless in Beaver Creek Village, a 2 minute walk from the hotel. Soccer, trampoline, mini golf, ping pong and more. The hotel has an excellent health club and outdoor pool. The breakfast buffet was the best and a reduced price for children. We had a weird experience one day when electricity in the entire area went out from 4 PM to 5:30 AM. The only restaurant open was at the hotel so we were lucky but items were limited. The price for dinner was extremely high for 7 and the hotel was kind enough to give us a small credit. I would highly recommend this hotel."
