PB hotel design editorial

Cherry Creek's position as Denver's most refined shopping district — a neighbourhood of galleries, independent boutiques, and serious restaurants that exists at a remove from the downtown convention corridor — gave Hotel Clio a particular brief: to serve a clientele that arrives by choice rather than by conference schedule. The property, a Marriott Luxury Collection hotel set within a twelve-storey tower on East 2nd Avenue, underwent a comprehensive repositioning and rebrand from its former life as a JW Marriott, emerging with 199 rooms dressed in a palette that mirrors the Colorado landscape rather than generic luxury convention. Guest rooms carry warm taupe upholstered headboards with brushed metal detailing, walnut-toned case goods, and patterned carpets in ash and stone that suggest high-country terrain; floor-to-ceiling windows frame views ranging from the Front Range to the Cherry Creek rooftops below. The food and beverage program grounds the property in its Western setting more convincingly than the architecture alone might manage. The restaurant spaces layer rough-cut sandstone walls against slatted dark-stained wood ceilings, large-format bison paintings lending an energy that sits closer to contemporary Western art than frontier kitsch. Cognac leather bar stools line a curved counter beneath a steel grid canopy, while the adjoining terrace — strung with bistro lighting and anchored by an outdoor fireplace — pulls the interior warmth outward toward the street, giving Hotel Clio a genuine point of connection with the neighbourhood rather than the sealed, self-referential quality that luxury hotel dining so often defaults to.

"This hotel only has 6 suites out of 200 rooms so for people who value suite upgrades it would normally not be a great fit; luxury hotels in Marriott chain normally have far more suites.  Consequently I did not expect a suite but I was surprised they did not even upgrade +1 to a mountain view room; we had a view of a construction site, which is not very impressive for Bonvoy Ambassador Elite.  At least the room looked good and recently renovated, although a bit boring in style. When the upgrade is poor then one thing that remains to wow us in terms of elite benefits can be breakfast.  The menu was nice and the food was tasty but there was a limit of 40 USD as the Platinum (and higher) benefit - for a couple this limit is even more aggressive than the low-ball 50 USD that Hilton luxury hotels give in the U.S. for Diamond guests. I am not aware that Marriott chain hotels are supposed to have any limit, let alone such a low limit. One concept that stood out at this hotel was the "butlery" available on each floor to refill water and also a bowl of snacks for guests to pick. Overall I felt lukewarm about this hotel. I was not impressed enough to return but there was nothing glaringly bad either."

"Construction blocks the mountain view and adds chaos and noise at entry. Beautiful lobby, nice rooms. Top notch professionalism from staff from valet to front desk to servers. However, we were not informed at reservation of construction immediately across the street and on cross street. Mountain view rooms will be blocked by view of the construction which is active during business hours, M-F. Room request lead to 4+ hour delay of room key. Still waiting actually. Lobby is hoping as of 4pm, Friday. Staff is great, rooms are as expected with proper high-end materials. Room assignment is poor. Not informing guests of construction and impacts is a no-no."

"People were nice, but prices are misleading. We booked through website at one price and then when we checked in they raised the rate because they said their occupancy was higher! Need to honor original rates offered online. I had a stay booked for two weeks later, but I cancelled and went with a Hilton branded hotel"

"For the past two years, I have been staying at hotel clio at least every 4 to 5 weeks for a few nights, as my daughter lives in Denver. Every time the whole staff goes above and beyond. However, one wonderful young lady stands out more than anyone else.; Lauren Mcgurie. She is wonderful, helpful, kind, the level of hospitality she provides makes me not ever want to stay in any other hotel when I come to Denver. This time, we also had my daughter’s graduation party at the hotel and it couldn’t have gone smoother and better. I truly hope that your establishment recognizes Lauren as an outstanding asset. What a fabulous young lady."

"Great location. Rooms are well maintained. Enjoyed the lobby with inside and outside seating. It was a busy weekend, and there was a dog crying on our floor for quite sometime and I had to alert the desk. Surprised that housekeeping or security did not act sooner. Breakfast and lunch at Toro was excellent!"
