PB hotel design editorial

At the intersection of Broadway and Acoma in Denver's Golden Triangle — the neighborhood that clusters the Denver Art Museum, the Clyfford Still Museum, and the History Colorado Center into a walkable arts district — a ten-storey building clad in warm sandstone and copper-framed windows collides with an angular curtain-wall glass base that pushes out toward the street corner like the prow of a ship. Designed by Tryba Architects and opened in 2015, the Art Hotel Denver carries 165 rooms and was conceived from the outset as a cultural institution in its own right, with a collection of over 500 original works woven through its public spaces and guestrooms rather than deployed as decoration. The interiors translate that commitment into something genuinely livable rather than gallery-stiff. Guestrooms pair light oak millwork and crisp white walls with bolts of orange, teal, and mustard in the accent pillows and custom bedding — a palette borrowed from Colorado's high-desert landscape and the chromatic energy of the surrounding museums. The upper-floor restaurant sits behind the full-height angled glazing visible from the street, lit by circular halo pendants suspended over dark hardwood floors and linen-upholstered chairs with chrome legs. At the bar one level up, a dramatic sculptural chandelier in crumpled chrome anchors the space against floor-to-ceiling glass with views across the Front Range, salmon-leather bar stools running the length of a granite counter in a room that has the atmosphere of a serious contemporary art space that happens to serve excellent cocktails.

"We hosted a company event at the hotel and everything was incredible. The hotel workers were extremely attentive, service oriented, and friendly. The food was also surprisingly good and the bathrooms were very clean. I plan on coming back!"

"I liked this hotel a lot. It’s in a great location, close to many of Denver’s main attractions. Ubers were plentiful and it’s very close to public transportation. There were many incredible restaurants and coffee houses close by. The staff were beyond gracious, friendly and accommodating. A special shout out to Marisol, who kept my room clean and stocked with water. I would definitely stay here again."

"Reviewing this hotel because many of the existing reviews are misleading. This is the biggest hotel disappointment we have encountered in months of travel. It is a marginally maintained hotel staffed by people unfamiliar with hospitality and associated with an unimpressive restaurant/bar. Room: 2/5 - The room is large but it’s basically furnished with wires/dents/stains on full display. The bathroom has 2 sinks but water only trickles from one then runs all over the counter. The towel bar and toilet paper holder are falling out of the wall. The robe was warm and fluffy, but only one provided for 2 people. The bed is just bad, with divots in the mattress from people who have stayed before…like one might expect in a 2-star highway inn. Staff: 1/5 - The friendliest person was the gentleman cleaning the floors. All front desk staff on the phone while we and others waited to check in. We also waited for some time at the bar, which was staffed by only one person when at least 2 were needed. Our room was changed after check-in and the reason given was “dunno, maybe a maintenance issue.” And restaurant staff literally sighed when I asked to use my breakfast vouchers. Then we were charged twice for drinks. The general vibe is that staff is doing us a favor by allowing us to stay here. Restaurant: 1/5 - “Fire” is a miss. Had dinner, drinks and breakfast…all meh. Breakfast parfait included blueberry stems and the rest was unremarkable. Dinner salad was worse - including canned tangerine segments and a lump of hard raisins. Housekeeping: 3/5 - Room was clean enough, but neighbors’ food and trash remained outside their doors for a full day. On the bright side, the gym is nice."
