PB hotel design editorial

Forty-five floors of white-banded concrete and tinted glass rise from the corner of Larimer Street and 17th in Denver's financial district, the Rocky Mountains filling the western horizon at dusk in a way that reminds you how improbably the city sits at the edge of the Great Plains. The Ritz-Carlton Denver is fitted into the base of this postmodern office tower — a mixed-use arrangement that gives the hotel's 202 rooms some of the tallest sightlines in the downtown core while grounding them in the workaday grid of the CBD. The interiors navigate the familiar tension between corporate-tower bones and hotel warmth with reasonable conviction. Guest rooms shown here span two distinct vocabularies: an earlier scheme in dark walnut, amber-toned lamps, and sand-and-cobalt hand-tufted rugs, and a more recent suite refresh that pulls toward cream-painted paneling, geometric woven carpet, brass hex sconces, and sculptural branch metalwork — lighter and more residential in atmosphere. The dining room at Elway's, the steakhouse that anchors the hotel's food program, makes the stronger design statement: a coffered ceiling of dark wood circles, leather banquette seating in cognac, and a backlit onyx wall that glows amber like a slab of compressed autumn light. The bar carries the same enveloping warmth, with floor-to-ceiling zebrawood paneling, a curved counter, and slender stained-glass panels in violet and teal providing the only cool note in an otherwise resolutely warm room.

"The evening I arrived at the Ritz Carlton - Denver, I knew that it was going to be quite the experience I was looking forward to for my Birthday. After a small delay at guest check-in, I made my way to my fabulous room and with much of my delight, welcomed a fine wine of the hotel's brand and fancy charcuterie board. The rest of the trip was fantastic. Nice restaurant next to a picturisque lobby where I enjoyed more photos and friendships to celebrate the occassion. P.S., I have never-ever slept in a hotel bed as comfortable as RC, Denver. Hope they keep up the quality and everybody else should copy."

"An excellent stay. Very warm welcome from Millie at the front desk with quick check in. Very spacious, clean and well appointed room on the 11th floor with a personalised message and gifts. Great service from Josh in Elway's and fantastic burgers full of flavour and cooked to perfection. Will happily stay again next time we're stopping in Denver."

"The Ritz Denver has all of the service and amenities that the brand is known for. From that perspective it was great. It may also have been great if you were there for business in the immediate surrounding offices. However, if you’re there for pleasure, the hotel is surrounded only by offices and a dirt lot. There’s not a restaurant or convenience store in sight - or even any people. Food and shopping is only a few blocks away and an easy walk, but it feels soulless walking out the hotel door. Also, the room I stayed in was pretty beat up and in need of renovation. One of the electrical outlets wasn’t attached to the wall. The hinge on the shower door and tile it was attached to were pulling off the wall and the handle was loose. It’s a minor thing, but our bed didn’t have a top sheet, the comforter was thin so it was cold at night. I think the Ritz generally has a unique way they make their beds, but there was only a bottom sheet on this one. I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt that this room was an exception and the rest are great."

"Our experience was thoroughly enjoyable, from check-in (with Millie) to a very comfortable room and great blackberry mojitos courtesy of Josh at the bar. We would definitely stay at this hotel again."
