PB hotel design editorial

Forty-five floors of white-banded concrete and tinted glass rise from the corner of Larimer Street and 17th in Denver's financial district, the Rocky Mountains filling the western horizon at dusk in a way that reminds you how improbably the city sits at the edge of the Great Plains. The Ritz-Carlton Denver is fitted into the base of this postmodern office tower — a mixed-use arrangement that gives the hotel's 202 rooms some of the tallest sightlines in the downtown core while grounding them in the workaday grid of the CBD. The interiors navigate the familiar tension between corporate-tower bones and hotel warmth with reasonable conviction. Guest rooms shown here span two distinct vocabularies: an earlier scheme in dark walnut, amber-toned lamps, and sand-and-cobalt hand-tufted rugs, and a more recent suite refresh that pulls toward cream-painted paneling, geometric woven carpet, brass hex sconces, and sculptural branch metalwork — lighter and more residential in atmosphere. The dining room at Elway's, the steakhouse that anchors the hotel's food program, makes the stronger design statement: a coffered ceiling of dark wood circles, leather banquette seating in cognac, and a backlit onyx wall that glows amber like a slab of compressed autumn light. The bar carries the same enveloping warmth, with floor-to-ceiling zebrawood paneling, a curved counter, and slender stained-glass panels in violet and teal providing the only cool note in an otherwise resolutely warm room.

The Ritz-Carlton, Denver Reviews

"We have stayed at numerous Ritz-Carlton properties across California, New York, Hawaii, and Japan, and this was our first stay in Denver. Unfortunately, it was, without question, the most disappointing experience we have had with the brand. The most significant issue was the clear misrepresentation of the guest rooms on your website. The rooms are described and depicted as featuring a modern design in royal blue and shades of gray. In reality, our room was entirely different—outdated, and decorated in beige and brown tones, with none of the finishes or aesthetic shown online. This was not a minor variation; it was a completely different product. When I raised this issue with the Front Desk, I was informed that the website images reflect potential future renovations that have not yet been approved, and that only three rooms currently resemble those images. Advertising rooms that do not exist for the vast majority of guests—and may not exist at all pending approval—is misleading and unacceptable. This created a clear bait-and-switch situation and set expectations that the property does not currently meet. The condition and presentation of the room were far below what we expect from the Ritz-Carlton brand and more closely aligned with a standard four-star hotel. Additionally, the Front Desk experience during check-in and the following day was underwhelming and lacked the level of service and attentiveness typically associated with Ritz-Carlton. While the team was far more helpful and friendly on our final day—particularly in accommodating a late checkout due to my husband experiencing high altitude sickness—the inconsistency in service was disappointing. I would like to note that the valet and front door staff were consistently warm and welcoming. Overall, this experience did not reflect the standards, transparency, or service excellence that define the Ritz Carlton brand. I emailed the GM with this review and received a neutral cut and paste response from the assistant, not addressing the issues."

"The building was beautiful and the room was amazing. They even gave me a free upgrade for my anniversary, which made the stay extra special. The fitness center and spa were wonderful as well. As nice as all of that was, the staff truly stood out—they were even greater and made the entire experience unforgettable."

"This well-appointed, modern hotel offers a clean, comfortable stay and is conveniently located within reach of many of the city’s “happening” spots. It strikes a nice balance between accessibility and a more relaxed atmosphere. From the moment you arrive, the tone is set by a welcoming front desk team. Staff members like Gracie stand out for their warmth and inviting demeanor, making check-in feel personal rather than transactional. The hotel’s spa is a welcome amenity, thoughtfully positioned across from a well-equipped fitness center. While the services themselves are solid, adding a dedicated relaxation room would elevate the post-treatment experience and provide guests a space to fully unwind. If you choose to dine at the bar, you’re in for a treat. Josh delivers not only outstanding service but also a sense of humor and energy that keeps guests coming back. His engaging style turns a simple meal into an experience. Overall, this hotel combines comfort, thoughtful amenities, and memorable service in a way that makes it easy to recommend—and even easier to return."
