PB hotel design editorial

At the corner of 14th and Larimer in downtown Denver, where the 16th Street Mall meets the edge of the historic LoDo district with the gilded clock tower of Union Station visible just blocks east, a ten-story building clad in warm sandstone-toned brick and dark bronze metalwork announced itself in 2021 as one of the more considered additions to the city's hotel landscape. Thompson Denver, part of Hyatt's lifestyle collection, was designed by architects Tryba Architects with interiors by Dallas-based Studio 11 Design, its massing stepping back in a glazed penthouse volume that reads as a deliberate gesture toward the mountain panorama stretching west across the Front Range. The lobby establishes the design's central argument — reclaimed timber columns wrapped in brass, travertine-tiled floors inlaid with graphic black triangles, and a suspended chandelier installation of oak and bare filament bulbs that hovers like a loose constellation above a cobalt velvet sectional sofa. Guest rooms carry the palette upward: leather-paneled headboards in tobacco brown, arched pendant lights in bronze and frosted glass, and floor-to-ceiling windows framing snow-capped peaks across the Denver roofscape. The rooftop bar, with its exposed structural diagonal bracing, tan leather banquettes, and glazed curtain wall dissolving the boundary between interior and terrace, pulls the Rockies into the room in a way that feels less like a design conceit than a simple geographical fact.

"Booked through American Express FHR. We arrived late at the hotel and with the Amex package we are supposed to get an upgrade in the room if available. Not only did we NOT get an upgrade I think they gave us the worst room in the hotel. The room was on the second floor facing a big street and we could hear street racing and emergency vehicles speeding by all night long. Also according to the paperwork given to us by the hotel late checkout is suppose to be guaranteed until 4pm. They only gave us an extra hour until noon. The room was adequate but it was so loud that we couldn’t get any rest. Valet parking is a joke. You can park like one driveway over for 16$ rather than the 64$ valet plus Denver taxes. Overall a rather mediocre stay."

"The location is great to the stadiums. We went for the games and we could walk to ball Arena. There are Barnyard doors on the bathroom. Talk about a weird flex. Kinda takes away any private time you might need. Shower is fantastic. The valet is like 64 a night with a 30 dollar Denver charge fee added at the end of each night. Lots of hidden charges as you’ll see on your bill. Valet was way too much for the service, I suggest not bringing a car if you can help it. I’ve stayed in nicer hotels for less money. This one had a night club going still at 9pm on a Sunday you could hear it all the way on floor 9, the club is on floor 6. It’s just like weird to me that a place that is supposed to be 4.5 stars acted like a night club. Just overall a weird experience for a couple. It’s not really romantic, might be suited better for a solo traveler trying to find themselves a random. There are fancier hotels in the area without hidden fees, which were not mentioned when we booked the room. Gym is okay, very basic. No squat rack or smith machine. Just some treadmills and a rower with a few free weights. Not impressive. Don’t expect to get anything but a HITT workout in. Bed is very hard, they got those puffy pillows with no shape to them. Just a top cover sheet on the bed, no actual sheets and a lite comforter. They don’t change the sheets when you stay they just remake the bed, even if the sheets are dirty. No vegetarian or vegan options at their on site restaurant. A few things in the cafe to grab on the go. But that closes early in the morning. Not much thought put into their menu for in room dining. It’s an expensive hotel so you expect it not to be such a let down on the luxury. Try a different hotel in the area without hidden fees and better service. If you just need to walk to the game and have a place to sleep at the end of the night this hotel would work."

"This is unfortunatley, one of failed stay at Thompson brand hotel in Denver. Staffs were ill educated, short staffed and not so good at taking care of issues. The roomservice sucked and food were delivered cold for breakfast - have you heard of cold and hard french toast? Things were expensive and not working. I had two rooms side by side, but one was smelled chemical fume and the other one had a heater issue. Bathroom was illdesied and freezing cold. If you are visiting Denver, try to avoid this one."
