PB hotel design editorial

Tucked against the base of the San Juan Mountains where Colorado Avenue gives way to the canyon wall, the building that houses Hotel Telluride announces itself through its materiality before anything else — a rusticated sandstone porte-cochère at street level, warm stucco massing rising through three floors, and balconies trimmed in heavy timber that borrow the grammar of late-nineteenth-century mining-era Telluride without pretending to be Victorian. The surrounding aspens and blue spruce press close enough that the structure, lit amber against the deep mountain sky at night, carries more the feeling of a grand private lodge than a downtown hotel. Inside, the design commitment to high-country rusticism intensifies. The great room lobby deploys a soaring cathedral ceiling of knotted pine planks carried on exposed timber trusses with iron hardware, anchored by a stacked-stone fireplace and furnished with deep velvet sofas, paisley-cushioned armchairs, and an antler chandelier that references a long tradition of Rocky Mountain resort interiors. Guest rooms maintain the warmth of the communal spaces — nailhead-trimmed leather headboards, linen elk-motif pillows, cherry-framed mirrors, and patterned wool-blend carpets throughout — with French doors opening onto private balconies that frame direct views of the ski mountain. The bar, clad in dry-stacked ledgestone, adds a more casual register to the mix. For a town that trades heavily on its own mythology, Hotel Telluride earns its sense of place honestly.

"Good walkability, extremely clean room, nice staff, great lobby, delicious breakfast, and a fantastic and scenic porch."

"Breakfast service is terrible. Eat elsewhere. They have only one server for the whole room. The meals are made and put on a counter under lamps. I noticed my meal was there for 20 minutes before the waitress brought it over eventhough I had pointed it out to her earlier. She refused to bring it to me because she said she had to serve another table first. So, I had to wait while the chef made 6 orders and my order just sat there for 20 minutes."

"Decided to visit Telluride for our anniversary and chose this hotel. We were not disappointed. Really nice hotel, very classy exterior appearance, friendly and helpful staff, and nice size rooms with a great view. And they were nice enough to order some snow for our arrival! Only complaint was the bed was a little on the hard side. But otherwise, we enjoyed our stay."

"Comfortable space and clean. The lobby is lovely and inviting. Friendly and helpful hosts. We went during off season. There’s probably more service when things are hopping. Some of their services were unavailable but the price we paid to stay was reduced accordingly. I feel that is fair. I’d stay there again!"

"This is sad, but true. I accidentally booked my reservation on the wrong date. I did not realize this to the following morning. *less than 12 hours*. I called the hotel to try to make the correction. I needed to leave a message for the manager to call me back. No call back ever happened. I contacted the hotel the following day and spoke with someone. She told me she would tell her manager and took my number to call me back. Another day passed and still did not here from the hotel, let alone the manager. I made a call to them later in the day to try to get some help. I was able to speak to the supervisor and was told they could not change the date, but could give me a 20% discount for another date(the date I originally wanted to book for). Not happy with that, the supervisor spoke with his manager whom offered me a 50% discount on my next stay. The manager also told me that " they have a business to run and my mistake booking the incorrect date is not their issue." The hotel was not going to lose money. All I asked for is refund and I would remake the reservation for the correct date. I made 3 separate attempts to rectify this with the hotel. NEVER received a call back. For a Hilton property, this is bad hospitality. Remember a bad review is not where this had to go."
