PB hotel design editorial

Sited at the base of Vail Mountain in Lionshead Village, where gondola traffic and pedestrian life converge at the mountain's edge, the Ritz-Carlton Club Vail presents a massing borrowed from the Bavarian alpine vernacular that Vail's founders consciously chose for the resort when it was established in the 1960s. The ochre and cream facade, punctuated by dark timber balconies and a copper-roofed corner turret, rises seven stories against the Gore Range — a scale that manages to feel residential rather than institutional, its mansard-capped roofline breaking the upper floors into a rhythm of dormers and setbacks. Inside, a recent renovation calibrated the interiors toward a more contemporary mountain register without abandoning the warmth the property has always traded on. The double-height great room works a cathedral window wall framing aspen-covered slopes, furnished with chunky upholstered club chairs in slate and charcoal grouped around live-edge coffee tables and stone side tables. The bar area pairs a herringbone hardwood floor with exposed knotty timber coffers and leather-wrapped bar stools in a pale taupe, a double-sided fireplace anchoring the transition between bar and lounge. Guestrooms carry the palette through in plaid wool throws and geometric-patterned carpet, headboards arriving in either deep forest green or amber gold depending on the room category — small chromatic decisions that give the spaces the atmosphere of a well-considered mountain lodge rather than a generic ski hotel.

"A trip down memory lane. Great friends, good times, no snow. The village is changing. No red lion, no el sabor and no Los amigos. It’s all about the love. ❤️ Wish it, dream it, do it!"

"We would stay here again. Very nicely appointed 2 bedroom condo with hot-tub and pool and bar in Lions-head. Restaurant closed for the season mid way through our October week here and we did miss having it as our only complaint. Other restaurants are not that close. Convenient hotel shuttle to main Vail village as well as Vail shuttle, so no need for a car on the mountain. Definitely more luxurious than most of the Westin timeshares we have been to. We plan to return. No spa but we enjoyed going to The Four Seasons nearby for treatments and spa circuit."

"We stayed here for two nights recently and absolutely loved it! Although the property is located on the west side of Vail Village, most attractions are within a scenic 30-minute walk—perfect for those who enjoy a bit of exercise. For added convenience, the complimentary shuttle service is excellent, and the driver (Paul?) was especially kind and welcoming. The room and amenities were everything you'd expect from the Ritz-Carlton—impeccable, luxurious, and thoughtfully maintained. The fitness center is modern and well-equipped, and we especially enjoyed the wine tastings and fresh cookies offered in the lounge. Overall, this was one of our best stays in Vail. We’re already looking forward to coming back!"

"Just got back from the Ritz Carlton Vail after five blissful nights, and let me tell you—they haven’t skipped a single beat in the last seven years. In fact, they might have turned the dial up. The service? Top tier. And if you’ve read my other reviews, you know I don’t throw compliments around lightly. This place is so flawless, I don’t even have a single witty complaint to offer. Not one. We rented directly from Berkshire Hathaway, which included daily maid service that kept the room spotless. And by spotless, I mean I started questioning if the maids were ninjas. The kitchen? Equipped with everything short of Gordon Ramsay himself to make a gourmet meal—but let’s be real, I wasn’t cooking. Thankfully, some of Vail’s best dining is just a short shuttle ride away. The bar staff? Beth and Kat deserve gold medals for their friendly service and killer cocktails. And the nightly live music? Absolutely terrific. Oh, and the cookies at 4 PM for the kids are apparently a local event because I’ve never seen children line up with that level of dedication. (Adults, don’t worry—we get 5 PM whiskey shots. It’s a perfectly balanced ecosystem.) The heated pool and whirlpool? Heaven after a day of skiing. And the fact that this place is somehow better than it was seven years ago? Unheard of. So much so, I’m now seriously considering buying a property here—and not just because I’m still riding the high of daily maid service and whiskey shots. Kudos, Ritz. You’ve outdone yourselves. Again."

"I was extremely disappointed with my stay at this hotel. The manager had a terrible attitude and treated us very badly. From the moment we arrived, he was rude and unhelpful. We tried to address some issues we found in the room, but he simply ignored our concerns and was even aggressive in his responses. I have never been treated so poorly at a hotel before. I do not recommend this place to anyone and hope they improve their customer service in the future. His name is Zach Penland."
