PB hotel design editorial

Judiciary Square sits at the institutional core of Washington, where federal courthouses and municipal buildings set a civic tone that few hotels have ever tried to work with rather than against. Arlo Washington DC takes a different approach, threading the brand's characteristic social-hotel sensibility through a building whose tan brick facade and marquee-lit canopy land somewhere between neighborhood anchor and destination address. The property converted an existing structure into roughly 200 rooms across multiple floors, and the exterior's warm masonry palette — visible in the images against dark bronze window surrounds and a theatrical entrance canopy lined with exposed Edison bulbs — carries genuine warmth without the studied quirkiness that afflicts so many lifestyle-branded hotels. Inside, the design keeps faith with the building's bones. Guest rooms retain exposed red brick walls where the original structure permits, paired with fluted forest-green headboard panels, walnut-stained bed frames, and patterned low-pile carpet in a sand-and-sage geometry that grounds the palette without heaviness. The street-level restaurant deploys chevron terracotta tile flooring, channel-tufted cognac leather banquettes, and warm abstract canvases in amber and sienna — a room that feels gathered rather than designed. Upstairs, the rooftop bar folds open onto a stone-paved terrace via accordion glazing, arched backlit shelving framing the bar inside while rope-woven outdoor chairs face a wide skyline view that, at this height in this low-rise city, carries more weight than it might anywhere else.

"We were there for a meeting. They have just had a change in management. As one might expect, the transition was rocky. The meeting, food and beverage manager was very nice. In spite of her cooperation, sympathy and professionalism, the kitchen was not up to the task. The caprese sandwiches for the buffet were soggy. There were not enough cookies ( we requested more and they delivered). The salmon dinner was not hot and they served what they did not use at the lunch buffet the next day. The croissants were meh. Our room was nice but small. I loved the window seat but the blind fell off the track on the first day. All the staff we met were excellent and did their best to assist. I hope the hotel gets over the shake up and stabilizes."

"Not good idea.., only pricey restaurant on site. Far walk to anything fun. Cold atmosphere. Trying to be high tech, but actually half-axx. Cutting corners on the customer expenses. Room is like a 2 star hotel clean yeah, but cold atmosphere with small wooden table, terrible light conditions. Cheap wrinkled shade on window. No black out curtains. Breakfast a disaster. Serving people did not understand my English requests. They told guests on Friday there would be no water for 8 hours...imagine that. No offer of compensation, free drink, nothing! BTW, owning corp is wealthy Russian . Not American .Never again!"

"This was a newer hotel and we had never heard of it but when we arrived we were in awe of this place. It is amazing! We only came for one night to attend an event. When we arrived everything was more than perfect. The staff were amazing and so welcoming. I wish there were more of these hotels all over the country because I would never stay anywhere else if there was. The restaurant was very nice and the staff waited on us like we were royalty. Our room was so beautiful and immaculate. The decor was very modern. Our view was so lovely and we woke up to it softly snowing. Looking out the window we could see the Christmas trees. We decided to purchase some of the items with the Arlo logo take home, like candles and fragrance and etc. We have since told everyone we know about this hotel and we will always stay here when coming to Washington DC. This hotel is very reasonable. It has a little coffee snack area where you can get sandwiches and etc for on the go or just to take to your room. We can't wait to return and stay again and hopefully a longer visit."

"My wife and I just spent two nights and three days at Arlo DC. Check-in was quick and efficient. We stayed in suite 1211 (corner room), which had two small balconies. One attached to the bedroom and the other to the living room area. The suite itself was spacious with two bathrooms, a bedroom, a dining area, and a living room. Well worth the price. We didn't check out the rooftop bar area or the restaurant. We would stay here again."
