PB hotel design editorial

Few American cities have historically turned their backs on water the way Washington did with the Anacostia and Potomac, which makes the emergence of The Wharf on the Southwest Waterfront feel genuinely transformative. Pendry Washington DC – The Wharf, which arrived in 2022 as part of that mixed-use district, is the architectural centerpiece of this reclamation — a 12-story, 131-key tower designed by ODA whose facade is immediately legible in the images: a rhythmic grid of angled concrete fins and warm timber soffits sheltering deep-set glazed balconies, the whole composition shifting color with the light off the Potomac below. The massing has the precision of a well-resolved residential building rather than a conventional hotel block, each room appearing to claim its own private relationship with the water. Toronto-based DesignAgency handled the interiors with a sensibility that reaches toward continental Europe — Parisian grandeur filtered through a contemporary American lens. The guestrooms pair wrought iron four-poster beds and herringbone oak floors with Morris-inflected botanical rugs and curved corner windows that frame the marina like living paintings. The rooftop Moonraker bar is the most theatrical gesture: bold black-and-white striped floors, cane-backed bar stools upholstered in sapphire velvet on gilded pedestals, and a cascade of brass disc pendants suspended above a dark stone bar counter. Beyond the glass, the Washington skyline goes amber at dusk, completing the scene.

Pendry Washington DC - The Wharf Reviews

"From the early check in that we received to the beautiful birthday treats left in our room, we were completely pampered. The little stuffed animal that my granddaughter was presented with at check in set the stage for what would be a very special day and night for us. The Moonraker had some of the best drinks I have ever had and the food was delicious. For the amazing service, I feel like this is a great value hotel."

"We stayed at Pendry Washington DC for Valentine’s weekend and it was the perfect choice for a romantic getaway. The hotel strikes a beautiful balance between modern luxury and warmth. The rooms are elegant, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed, creating an intimate atmosphere from the moment you arrive. A special thank you to Joshua from Operations for making sure everything went smoothly during our stay. His professionalism and attention to detail truly stood out. Dining at Moonraker was amazing. The food is exceptional and the view is incredible, especially at night. Mehdi and Chloe made the entire evening even more memorable with impeccable service and genuine hospitality. If you are planning a romantic weekend in Washington, this is the place to stay. We will definitely be back."

"Awesome hotel! Clean and tidy room, all needs and requested addresses; staff is super polite and responsive and respectful; food was good (apps and breakfast); nothing we can say negative about the place. We are MVC owners, but if I can’t get a Marriott, it will be a Pendry property in the future."

"We had a delightful stay in DC at the Pendry when outside temperatures were below freezing. The service was exceptional, the room clean and comfortable and the food was good. Our room had a romantic view of the wharf and the water. It was worth it to upgrade for this view. The room was not large but it was very comfortable, with a bench and coat hooks by the door, a table and chairs to sit at and enjoy the view, a good sized closet, great blackout velvet drapes, and a removed bathroom that allowed for privacy. The bathroom water closet is tight because the door is so large. It can be a bit challenging to close that door. And there is only one sink, so two people have to coordinate their bathroom time. Since the weather was brutally cold, we particularly appreciated both the gym and the spa. The hot tea, steam room and Therabody massagers provided a welcome refuge."
