PB hotel design editorial

Logan Circle sits at one of Washington D.C.'s most contested cultural fault lines — a neighborhood that spent decades in decline before becoming the city's most energetically creative quarter, and it's this tension between establishment D.C. and insurgent local identity that the Viceroy Washington DC wears most visibly on its exterior. The building's brick facade has been transformed by a large-scale abstract mural in navy, gold, and grey — a graphic intervention that signals immediately which side of that cultural argument the hotel has chosen. Inside, Design Manifestó handled the interiors across the property's 178 rooms, working a palette of warm taupe walls, light-wash oak flooring, and oversized channeled headboards in dove-grey upholstery against accents of burnt orange and emerald green overdyed Persian rugs. The furniture language mixes brass-footed nightstands in burl walnut with lacquered black credenzas trimmed in gold hardware — a studied eclecticism that gives the suites a collected, residential quality rather than the anonymous comfort of standard hotel procurement. The rooftop carries this sensibility outdoors, where a timber-clad plunge pool deck surveys an unobstructed panorama of the low-rise city, furnished with lounge chairs and clipped topiary balls. One level below, the Dovetail restaurant terrace deploys teak armchairs, living green walls, and pendant Edison-style lanterns beneath a dark steel pergola — a setting calibrated carefully for the neighborhood's creative professional crowd.

"I was genuinely excited to stay at the Viceroy after patronizing other Viceroy properties in Chicago and elsewhere, and typically staying nearby when in the Washington DC metro area. Logan Circle and Dupont Circle is very central to shops, great restaurants, and local LGBTQ nightlife, so it's super convenient. However, my lesser than stellar experience started upon check-in at the front desk, where I was informed they did not have the room type (Viceroy Studio King) I booked. What appeared to be a minor issue became more apparent once I entered the room... My second floor, double-bed, room was dark (only top-half windows on the second floor), and an accessible room. This meant many features provided in the Viceroy Studio King were not present: some decor, fully enclosed glass door shower, the nice green comfortable rug seen in most room pics, etc. - and some other features were added, such as a medical chair in the shower, a plastic curtain, among other selections. While it wasn't the end of the world by any means, it was not the experience I booked for a nice, relaxing stay at the Viceroy. Rather, it seemed I was provided the last available room in the hotel that no one else wanted...when I went down to the front desk to ask for a different room - I was informed there was none other available and I could not be moved, but that they can waive my amenity fee for the inconvenience. They also brought me an extra lamp. At check-out, there was no note for the waiving of the fee, and I was charged for it - luckily I noticed the charge prior to leaving and the staff was still able to refund the fee after re-explaining. Additionally, there were so few electrical outlets in the room - nothing by the desk so I couldn't plug in my laptop, and for the extra lamp, it was necessary to unplug the coffeemaker. While the front desk staff was friendly and helpful albeit with some challenges, this stay was just not what I expected given what I was looking forward to and what I had actually booked. I would still consider another stay here given the location and what I've seen from the other rooms on property and just hopefully get a different, better overall experience. I did not have an opportunity to experience the pool as it's not open until Memorial Day. The fitness center, although small, has plenty to work with."

"Excellent customer service from the moment we approached the entrance as the doorman welcomed us in with an open door. They checked us in early and then call our room an hour later to make sure everything was as expected. They assisted with transportation arrangements, always smiling and offering assistance. Room spacious. Shower was large, good water, pressure, nice towels, comfortable bed. Location was Primo to most all sites on our list, we would definitely stay hereagain"

"The Viceroy isn't one of the "fanciest" hotels I've stayed at, but it was one of the best experiences. After booking two separate but overlapping reservations for my bachelorette, I called and emailed with questions. After two or three emails, Nia recognized me when I called and was able to pick up where the emails left off - which was amazing. Then when I checked in and throughout the stay she recognized me and addressed me by name. Nia also helped me after check-out when I had to ask for an adjustment adjustment on my folio. There were one or two emails back-and-forth with another person, but then I decided to summon the energy and call. Usually I don't call for folio-issues because the call becomes a long conversation that ends with "we'll follow up," but I was lucky because Nia picked up and she was able to help me square things away right away. To me, her actions (detail-oriented hospitality and competency) were true hallmarks of great service. That said, the entire staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel itself was also very comfortable, both in terms of the room and the ample spaces available for people to meet up. When the weather was nice, the Dovetail patio outside was a wonderful place to have breakfast and, while the food from BPM was fine, there are also many fantastic options nearby. I don't use TripAdvisor often because hotels are often just housing while traveling for me, but my stay at the Viceroy added to my experience, so I want to sincerely recommended it to others amongst the many options in DC."
