PB hotel design editorial

Planted directly on the dune line of Florida's northernmost barrier island, where the Atlantic meets a landscape of saw palmetto and wind-bent live oak, the Ritz-Carlton Amelia Island has held its position since 1991 as one of the Southeast's most quietly assured beachfront resorts. The seven-story ochre-stucco structure, its massing broken into pavilion-like wings capped with hipped rooflines, was designed to carry the feeling of a grand coastal manor rather than a convention-block hotel — a scale that reads most persuasively from the beach at low tide, when the building's warm facade catches the early light and mirrors cleanly in the wet sand below. A recent renovation refreshed the interiors considerably, and the images confirm a property moving toward a crisper coastal register: black steel four-poster beds against grasscloth-paneled walls in pale slate blue, herringbone-laid oak flooring, upholstered benches in ticking stripe, and woven rattan chairs on the balconies overlooking the dunes. The fine dining room retains its original warmth through rich cherry-toned wall paneling and arched picture windows that frame the maritime scrubland at dusk. The pool terrace, furnished with curved banquette seating and thatched tiki structures alongside the dune crossover boardwalk, takes a more tropical, loosened approach — color-blocked cushions against the neutral travertine deck, sabal palms threading upward into the open sky. The property holds 446 rooms across its full complex.

"Horrible. Kids running wild everywhere, no where to sit at the bars, so loud and out of control. $1,300 per night and you have to pay for wifi. They sell this idealistic experience but it’s aweful. Salt and the gym are great, everything else is like being at a Disney hotel. Wow what a terrible disappointment."

"This is our 6th year staying at this resort, most of those times over the Memorial Day holiday. It’s our getaway where we feel like Cheers because everyone knows our name - our home away from home. This year we planned on turning our normal couples only getaway to a family getaway with our mom and sis, however our sister passed away the end of January. So we were faced with a decision - we still came, and we brought our mom. That backdrop was needed because while Kathy and Robert, in the club are truly the reason we return each year - this year was even more special because I could tell Robert had trained so many others to give top knotch service. It was nice seeing Janeen and Lawrence jump right in doing an amazing job. Chase, who’s also phenomenal (but we didn’t see much cause he was at the beach - we stayed poolside) introduced us to Celeste, who was a breath of fresh air. Such a beauty inside and out, and last but not least the quiet, leader who doesn’t like fan fare Stephanie - made this trip after losing our sister super special and exactly what we needed. I’d be remiss if I didn’t shout out Isaiah who made the adult pool so accommodating to our wheelchair bound mother. He went over and above, and mom had a great suggestion - accessible entries to the adult pool and women’s locker room area would be a bonus as we made it work but the doors were heavy and maneuvering the door & her was a challenge. Finally, I must say my award of the trip goes to Jadisyn, he worked the adult pool our last day, and he was unfortunate to have to deal with the “entitled lady”. If I knew her name, I’d share, but I don’t. She comes with a group every year just like us, but she is nasty and entitled. While she tried holding 6 lounge chairs at the adult pool for over an hour, he was patient as he tried to remove towels for spa guest he had to turn away. Finally, I’d had enough and said something. I apologize for my tone, that’s not who I like to be, yet enough was enough. There are rules, we all must abide by and just because I’ve stayed here 6 times I don’t expect any more special treatment than a first time visitor. The Ritz is an experience for all - thank you for hiring beautiful humans, who take a lot when they show up to work and service others. Jadisyn, sir - your service was top notch and ALL the pool attendants outside her (and whatever group she was holding chairs for) applaud you. Until next year God bless us all, and God bless America! Happy Memorial Day❤️."

"This review is mostly about the Coast restaurant. For about the last 10 years my wife and I stay at the Residence Inn on Sadler Rd. for four nights. I either drive or take the free shuttle to the Ritz,I save at lest a $1000 a night. WE always have lunch at the Coast restaurant 🍴and all the past experiences has been excellent. Last Monday we arrived at Coast about 12:15 and sat outside, we waited at least 15 minutes before Davion F.(242107) came over took our order. My wife ordered a salad that Davion said great choice and I ordered a burger with swiss cheese & fries. People all around us are getting their food, some who sat after us, at least 20 minutes later he comes over after I caught his eye and I asked what is taking so long? His reply was I want to make sure your burger is done just right, a few minutes later he comes back again to ask( you did order swiss instead of cheddar, right). My wife said she is starving, Davion rushes away and a minute later I get a VERY COLD dried out burger and cold stale fries, wife gets a salad that is basically just lettuce. There were no apologies, no one comes over to check on us, I received the check at 1:32 P.M. Of course we will never be back, we really missed the great food and service. The highlight was sitting outside on a beautiful day."

"We spent a week at the Ritz and couldn’t have had a better time! It not only is an amazing resort but the staff is exceptional! My husband is a Titanium Bonvoy member and we have had the fortune of staying at many Ritz resorts worldwide and this was one of our favorites. The service from check in, where we were given an upgrade to an ocean view room, to the amazing food served at Salt and Coast by the fantastic waiters Anthony and Tony, and also playing tennis with the Pro Rob, every part of our stay was top notch. The icing on the cake was how the handled my daughter leaving behind her stuffed animal lion. They mailed it back with a “friend” and special note that was over the top! We will be heading back soon and can’t recommend this place enough!!"
