PB hotel design editorial

Clearwater Beach has long attracted the kind of resort development that mistakes volume for character, which makes The Hiatus a minor corrective — an eight-storey building clad in warm cedar-toned vertical screening at its base, white concrete cantilevered balconies stepping back toward a rooftop pool deck that frames the Gulf of Mexico with the confidence of a property that knows exactly where it sits. The exterior massing draws loosely from mid-century Florida modernism, the horizontal floor plates and ribbon windows softened by the timber-textured cladding at street level, where the ground-floor entrance announces itself with a slatted facade that filters the harsh Florida light. Inside, the interiors work a coastal-casual register that avoids the driftwood clichés endemic to Gulf Coast hospitality. Guest rooms are anchored by light ash bed frames with arched slatted headboards, woven rattan pendant lights, and walls painted in washed aqua — a ceiling color that borrows directly from the water visible through the floor-to-ceiling sliding doors. Teal medallion-print rugs ground each room without competing with the view. The rooftop bar area is the more considered space: slotted timber ceiling panels suspended above a mix of bouclé-wrapped barrel chairs, curved green swivel seating, and rattan-framed armchairs with tubular rope detailing, a brass-fronted bar running the width of the room. On the pool deck above, navy-striped fringed umbrellas and in-pool sun loungers confirm that The Hiatus has found a tone — relaxed, put-together, and genuinely connected to its waterfront setting.

"The hotel is very nice, very clean and quiet. It's only 2.5 years old. We did not have any issues. Bed and pillows were comfortable. Food from Ocean Seven was delicious. Great views from windows. It is located across the road but it is very short walk to the beach and super close to restaurants. The staff is super friendly. Special shout out to Josh - the valet parking attendant. He was super nice, went out of his way to help us every time we needed help getting our car. Only disappointing was the pool. It is very small and water in it gets too warm during hot weather days."

"Probably the nicest looking hotel I have been and the cleanest for sure. Food and drinks were top tier. Plus the staff were really helpful and great ( Josh if your reading this your the “GOAT” hope they give you a raise!). Would definitely recommend to everybody!"

"The rooms were beautiful, very clean, and had great views. The location is also ideal — within walking distance of the beach, restaurants, and nearby stores. I would have rated Service 4 stars because of the front desk staff (Shani and Tina). Unfortunately, I have to lower this review significantly because of the hotel’s valet operation. BE WARNED: The valet service is operated by a third-party vendor, PMC Valet, and my experience with them was horrific. Someone was allowed to take my vehicle even though I still had the physical valet claim ticket in my possession. The individual who stole my car was allegedly intoxicated, drove the vehicle off the property, and wrecked it. When I confronted the valet attendant on duty and asked why my vehicle was released without the claim ticket or my authorization, his response was: “Just report it stolen.” That nightmare cost me months of peace and resulted in tens of thousands of dollars in damages that I was unable to recover after PMC Valet denied responsibility — despite the theft occurring while my vehicle was under their care and despite their own valet procedures apparently not being followed. NEVER use the valet service at this property. PSA UPDATE 5/28/26: The General Manager’s public response is inaccurate. There is an OFFICIAL POLICE REPORT confirming my vehicle was stolen from this hotel’s parking garage while in valet custody. Contrary to what management publicly stated, PMC Valet NEVER contacted me to address this matter. Rather than acknowledging the seriousness of the incident, management chose to publicly deny and misrepresent the facts. Guests should use extreme caution when utilizing valet services at this property."

"Family trip with my family to celebrate the college graduation of my son. I reached out to the hotel in advance to ask for an upgrade. Yes….got an upgrade but was still left disappointed. As a Lifetime Diamond member, I’ve traveled to many places and have received many upgrades but this one was sub-par. The room was promoted as an Ocean / gulf front….as long as you could see over the restaurant roof that was directly in front of us. The Balcony was so small that only one chair would fit / overcome the smell of the restaurant dumpster directly below us. There was only one small chest of drawers in the closet on the bathroom to keep our clothes. Not a best case scenario. Other storage was VERY limited as well. Needed to “live” out of our suitcases. Not what I expect from an upgrade or a Curio-collection hotel. First day room service left just one bottle of water. When we ask about another one, the response was, I don’t have any more on my cart. We get back from the beach, and to no surprise there was no shower gel left in the shower. Cannot find a snack shop on premise to even buy a soda or snacks. This is a definite “do not recommend” on my list for Hilton hotels to stay at on vacation or any other time."
