PB hotel design editorial

Stock Island sits just one mile northeast of Key West's famous Duval Street chaos, close enough to feel the energy of the Conch Republic but removed enough to remember that the Florida Keys were once primarily a working waterfront. Oceans Edge Key West Resort Hotel & Marina was purpose-built on this quieter stretch of shoreline, its three-story white clapboard buildings arranged around a marina basin in a vernacular that borrows from the island's historic Conch architecture — tiered balconies with Chippendale-style railings, louvered shutters, and a crisp white-on-white palette anchored by cobalt blue umbrellas and woven resin loungers at the pool deck. Inside, the 175 rooms carry the same restrained coastal register: deep navy diamond-patterned carpeting, white shaker-style millwork with louvered cabinet fronts, and beds dressed in white with navy-bordered linens. Large-format botanical canvases — close-cropped coconut palms painted in saturated greens — give the rooms their one gesture of tropicality. The balconies, most of them overlooking open water or the marina slips below, frame views of the Gulf and a distant Miami skyline that clarify exactly where you are. The marina-side restaurant, fitted with coffered tongue-and-groove ceilings, oversized plantation fans, and French bistro chairs in natural rattan, keeps the waterfront permanently in view through retractable canvas walls — a room that feels more like a well-appointed dock pavilion than a hotel dining room, which, in Key West terms, is precisely the point.

Oceans Edge Key West Resort, Hotel & Marina Reviews

"Cleanliness of room everyday was comical. We called down and they sent someone up who just handed us another coffee cup and left versus clean. Front desk service was not great. Pool service was slow to non existent with regularly being out of towels. The best part was Jeff the awesome shuttle driver."

"Arrived at hotel and had to wait for check in time so went to bar, breakfast room, lunch area and night time eatery all same room not very big surly wait staff. The room was in building 4 booked an ocean view and could just see ocean as well as cranes and was well away from main hotel marina and pool area. Half the pools were closed for a wedding the day after our arrival. There is a bus takes you into key west but drops you quite far back. The rooms are nice good air conditioning. The food was ok. The hotel is expensive. Let’s hope it improves when it is taken over by the Hilton Chain."

"Was highly disappointed in this property. The pools were dirty, all the fees that were added on. 29 bucks a day for parking is a joke, 700 in resort fees when not offered pretty much anything, 119 for 6 drinks blew my mind. The best thing was the shuttle to downtown!"

"Beautiful resort. Excellent location. Lovely grounds. Would highly recommend. Went with a group of 16. Shuttle service was a very nice feature. Close enough to Key West but not too close. Water activities and other amenities were great."

"Great hotel with wonderful island music piped in throughout the day. Great shuttle service as the town c enter is 20 minutes away. Some room details need cleaning. Nice kayaking and bikes. Not in walking distance of much."
