PB hotel design editorial

Martin Brudnizki's 2019 renovation of the Four Seasons Resort Palm Beach posed a particular challenge: how do you refresh a property without erasing the very nostalgia that gives it character? His answer was a palette that feels less like a redesign than a memory — dusty rose headboards rising in tall vertical channels, terrazzo floors worn smooth as sea glass, coral lampshades printed with small botanical motifs, and walls washed in the softest pistachio. The effect, across 207 rooms in Leo Daly's low-slung four-story structure, is closer to a sun-bleached private club than a corporate resort. Striped tent ceilings in the bungalow-style rooms push the mid-century register further still, while teal leather benches and gilt-flecked wallcoverings add just enough glamour to keep the whole thing from feeling merely quaint. Outside, the six-acre beachfront grounds are arranged with the same unhurried confidence. Two pools step toward the Atlantic, flanked by teak-framed loungers and pagoda-roofed cabanas in cream canvas, while a terrace restaurant dines beneath a canopy of mature sea grape trees, their broad leaves filtering the light onto wicker chairs and sage-green tabletops. The landscape holds that slightly wild edge — native grasses and tropical planting pressing right up to the pool deck — that distinguishes a property genuinely connected to its site from one that simply faces the ocean. Opened in 1989, the resort has finally found an interior language equal to its setting.

"The property itself is absolutely stunning—one of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed at. The facilities, rooms, food, and overall atmosphere were exceptional. Unfortunately, my experience with some members of the staff left me extremely disappointed. As a Portuguese Canadian visiting from Toronto, my reason for staying at the hotel was to experience being at the same property as the Portugal National Team during the World Cup. Throughout my stay, I made every effort to be respectful of the players, staff, and other guests. I only approached individuals when it was appropriate and always respected their personal space and boundaries. Despite this, I was repeatedly approached by a blonde manager in the lobby and several security staff, who made me feel unwelcome and as though I was doing something wrong simply by being in the lobby. I was instructed multiple times to leave seating areas, including couches and chairs, and was directed to a designated section if I wanted any chance of interacting with players or team staff. One security guard, a woman with her hair in a bun and shaved sides, was particularly confrontational. We were discouraged from walking freely through the lobby, sitting at the bar for a drink, or enjoying the common areas, despite being paying hotel guests. I spent over $2,000 on my room and more than $500 on dinner and drinks during my stay. After spending nearly $3,000 at this property, I expected to be treated with courtesy and respect. Instead, I felt monitored, harassed, and spoken to in a manner that I did not feel was appropriate. I fully understand that the hotel has an obligation to ensure the safety and privacy of its guests, including the Portugal National Team, and I respect that. However, there is a significant difference between maintaining security and making paying guests feel unwelcome. At no point was I disruptive or disrespectful. It’s unfortunate because the hotel itself is beautiful, but the way I was treated by certain members of the management and security team overshadowed what should have been a memorable stay. Based on this experience, I would not choose to stay at this property again."

"Beautiful resort with attentive staff and well appointed rooms and common spaces. Great fun for the family. Pros: - Location is terrific and beach is beautiful - Attentive staff across the board: restaurants, house keeping, valets, pool, beach, etc. - Beautiful rooms although a bit small; our ocean facing room was great to spend time in - Great family pool and service - A good assortment of dining options with both Florie’s and Seaway being very different experiences Cons: - It could use 1 additional restaurant for variety - More vegetarian options and variety would be great. We stayed for 5 nights, and towards the end we had to keep eating the same thing over and over. We ventured off property a couple times for food; but all the Palm Beach Secret Service security / road closures made driving around a chore so we ended up eating at the hotel more than we would have liked. - Cocktails were all too sweet for my liking — all my years living in Brooklyn might be influencing me here, but I just couldn’t get something I particularly liked - Nitpick / One-off: We had one strange occurrence where one of the Florie’s hosts told us there would be a long wait for a table, but then immediately one of the other staff members who recognized us greeted us enthusiastically and immediately took us to one of our preferred tables"

"If you are in much need of a quick, but ultra relaxing getaway… boyyyy does HSH have the place for you. Travel no further than Florida (yes, I said Florida) to the Four Seasons Palm Beach. This hotel was truly a dream from start to finish for a long weekend (Friday - Monday). The hotel itself is beautiful, situated right on the Atlantic Ocean. Every single staff member was exceptional. The food, the facilities, the ambiance. Everything was absolutely a 10/10. I will try to keep my list as short as I can but it’s going to be hard!: Pros: - The overall ambiance and decor. It screams Palm Beach chic - which is my new love language. The hotel is in pristine condition and beautifully decorated. Half of my camera is filled with pictures of just the hotel itself - The staff. Every single person from front desk to coffee bar to pool to restaurant was exceptional. They made you feel like they cared you were there and wanted to get to know you. I especially want to recognize Loren Sakalian at the front desk. Loren made us feel incredibly special from the moment we walked in the door. We chatted about various things (hotel items, things to do in area, etc.) throughout our stay and she was always excited to assist us. She went above and beyond each time. Every hotel needs a Loren and we can’t wait to go back and see her! - The spa. Holy cannoli - 12/10 for Rosie at the spa! Best spa service I’ve ever had. The spa itself was beautiful with unreal facilities. Cannot wait to go back - The room - the room itself was spacious and comfortable. I personally loved the pillows and they actually gave you a comforter - which hotels just don’t provide anymore. The bathroom was really well laid out with plenty of space for two people and even a nice vanity area for me to get ready. But my favorite part? They gave you a loofah! I’ve never had a hotel provide and it is absolutely essential when covered in suntan lotion each day. - The food at the property overall was really good. We especially loved ordering the breakfast burrito to go from Amaya at the restaurant each morning and then eating on our balcony. Amaya is another exceptional staff member. She was so sweet to chat with each morning and she sent us a “Bon Voyage” platter on our last night. How sweet is she!? Can’t wait to go back and see her! - The pool and beach were the best part of the property. All of the staff around both areas were fantastic and the food/drinks you can order were exceptional. The staff is eager to help you set-up your chair and get you anything you need. They also provide complimentary gelato at 3PM each day! How fun is that!? Quick note - there is a family pool and an adult pool on property. - Coffee shop on property has fantastic coffee. Yesleny is there each morning waiting for you with a smile. Cons: - No notes! Recommendations: - Add a residence tower so I can live here part of the year! This trip was easily one of my top 3 vacations, which is crazy to believe because it’s right in Florida. It was perfect for a quick trip to recharge our batteries and get some sunshine. We absolutely will be returning - hopefully again in 2026! A big thank you for the Four Seasons for making our 4 days an incredible experience."

"I was disappointed with the decor of the hotel as the place needs an upgrade. The furniture, carpets, and the art is pretty old and not updated; Our room decor was pretty old as well, the wallpaper was not current, and furniture was pretty old. I have stayed in the Four Seasons in the past and it was beyond luxurious. A real disappointment.!!!"
