PB hotel design editorial

Positioned directly on the Intracoastal Waterway in downtown West Palm Beach, where the marina crowds the water's edge with superyachts and the island of Palm Beach sits just across the channel, The Ben Autograph Collection opened in 2020 as the city's first waterfront hotel in decades. The eight-story building, developed by Navarro Lowrey and designed with a facade articulated by warm bronze-toned cladding panels and cantilevered balconies, takes its name from Benjamin Currie, the engineer who drew the original plans for West Palm Beach in the late nineteenth century. That civic lineage informs the hotel's posture — not a resort retreat but a genuinely urban property, its ground floor opening onto Clematis Street with full-height glazing that connects the lobby to the pedestrian life outside. The 208 rooms were designed by Lissoni & Partners with an interior palette that navigates between the nautical and the residential: saddle-leather headboards with deep pleated detailing, exposed board-formed concrete ceilings in the standard rooms, dark wood-grain tile flooring, and abstract gold-toned rugs anchoring the seating arrangements. The rooftop level carries the most visual ambition — a long infinity pool extending toward the marina and the Palm Beach skyline beyond it, its deck lined with teak-toned decking and canvas loungers, while the adjacent open-air restaurant shelters beneath thatched parasols and rope-woven chairs, amber glass votives catching the last of the evening light.

"Stayed at The Ben for our anniversary and overall had a very nice stay. The hotel is beautiful, with thoughtful design touches throughout. The rooftop atmosphere was lovely, especially with the live music, and the complimentary shuttle was a great perk that was always prompt. Pool service was excellent—Christopher on the pool deck was especially friendly and attentive. A few service issues kept this from being a 5-star experience. I called two days before arrival to arrange champagne in our room for our anniversary, but despite several follow-ups, it wasn’t there at check-in and took about five hours to arrive. We also ordered dessert through room service, received the wrong item, and then had to request silverware when the correct dessert was delivered. One other thing to note: the pool area is fairly small, and during our stay an outside vodka promotion took over a significant portion of the deck and guest seating for several hours. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would return, but I would encourage management to focus on improving service execution and communication, especially for special occasions."

"Loved this hotel. Great location in downtown WPB. The hotel is hip & modern. My suite overlooked the marina. The room was very comfortable the seat that hung from the the curling overlooking the marina was a nice touch. There are two on site restaurants. I only tried the Proper Grit though but several times. Ashley, Juan & Gigi in food & beverage were very attentive. Id definitely stay here again on my next visit to WPB & wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it. Excellent property & wonderful staff!!"
