PB hotel design editorial

Positioned directly on the Intracoastal Waterway in downtown West Palm Beach, where the marina crowds the water's edge with superyachts and the island of Palm Beach sits just across the channel, The Ben Autograph Collection opened in 2020 as the city's first waterfront hotel in decades. The eight-story building, developed by Navarro Lowrey and designed with a facade articulated by warm bronze-toned cladding panels and cantilevered balconies, takes its name from Benjamin Currie, the engineer who drew the original plans for West Palm Beach in the late nineteenth century. That civic lineage informs the hotel's posture — not a resort retreat but a genuinely urban property, its ground floor opening onto Clematis Street with full-height glazing that connects the lobby to the pedestrian life outside. The 208 rooms were designed by Lissoni & Partners with an interior palette that navigates between the nautical and the residential: saddle-leather headboards with deep pleated detailing, exposed board-formed concrete ceilings in the standard rooms, dark wood-grain tile flooring, and abstract gold-toned rugs anchoring the seating arrangements. The rooftop level carries the most visual ambition — a long infinity pool extending toward the marina and the Palm Beach skyline beyond it, its deck lined with teak-toned decking and canvas loungers, while the adjacent open-air restaurant shelters beneath thatched parasols and rope-woven chairs, amber glass votives catching the last of the evening light.

"I had the pleasure of staying at The Ben the last week of June. My travel day was much longer than originally anticipated and I didn't arrive until 1am. As much as I hate to say it, I was the stereotypical traveler at this point in a terrible mood. The moment I arrived at The Ben, i was in awe with the beauty and elegant design. However, the true experience when I was greeted by Jay Johnson and Mindy Cruz. Many travelers know, you're lucky to get a smile out of the night audit team. These two engaged in a thoughtful and sincere conversation with me that I had not experienced with any overnight team before & also very few hotel staff members at any hotel I've ever stayed at. They are true hospitality professionals that reshaped everything for me. I did have an early morning after this and went down to the barista to help wake me up. Sofia Wolf was the barista and she too engaged with thoughtful conversation asking me specifics so she could recommend the exact juice and coffee that I needed, and she was spot on! Lastly, I ran into Danielle Legere who gave me excellent recommendations of places to visit and explore in the city which was excellent. Travel Tip: Upgrade your room to have a balcony view, get the cabana at Spruzzo, and ensure you explore their fabulous menu. You will be very happy that you did this!!"

"Each time I stay, I feel the need to call out each team member that has provided me with warm welcomes, appreciation for my choice to stay at The Ben, and their absolute professionalism. It has been many years that Jacob has been ensuring that my room is comfortable and does it with a smile. Michael is a delight and greets me kindly as I enter the hotel. Adam is a standout whether at the door or front desk. He's a very good ambassador. Alisha, Daphne, Blake, Angelina, Jaida, Jarrett and Kevin all had a part in a wonderful extended stay. Linda, the concierge is always helpful. Beautiful setting, wonderful team, prime location. The Ben is the best! Will be back to see everyone soon, -Michelle"

"Just had a really nice breakfast in the beautiful Proper Grit restaurant after checking into the Ben hotel last night. Gigi and Ruth were fantastic and helped us to correct a small error in billing that others had trouble with. Kudos to them and to the entire team that make this hotel such an enjoyable place to stay!"
