PB hotel design editorial

Tucked behind a white canopied porte-cochère draped in birds-of-paradise and traveler's palms, the 1926 Spanish Colonial Revival building that houses The Brazilian Court Hotel has always felt more like a private Palm Beach estate than a hotel — which was, in a sense, the point. Designed by architect Gustav Maass and built during the Florida land boom that made Addison Mizner's Mediterranean Revival vocabulary the dominant grammar of the island, the two-story courtyard compound on Australian Avenue has long attracted a clientele that prefers discretion to scale. Its ochre stucco facades, dark mahogany balconies, and terracotta roof tiles remain essentially as Maass conceived them, the low-rise massing arranged around a central pool court shaded by royal palms. Inside, the property has evolved through successive renovations while retaining a consistent tropical residential warmth. Earlier guest rooms carried dark mahogany beds with draped canopy headers, butter-yellow walls, and louvered plantation shutters filtering garden light — a Floridian planter's vernacular that felt genuinely inhabited rather than assembled. More recent updates have introduced forest-green velvet bed frames, brass-framed botanical wallcoverings, and a deliberate injection of vintage photography — a Terry O'Neill print of Brigitte Bardot anchors one guestroom wall — alongside the same dark-beamed ceilings and wide-plank hardwood floors. The restaurant, where coffered ceilings inlaid with crushed shell or pebble mosaic warm the room in amber, looks directly onto the garden through steel-framed windows, keeping the whole property in constant conversation with its extraordinary grounds.

"My husband and I stayed three nights at the Brazilian Court Hotel. Every aspect of the stay was impeccable. We have never experienced such caring, attentive staff. Everyone seemed eager to help us have a wonderful experience. The hotel is so charming and beautiful but the staff make everything perfect and welcoming."

"I never write reviews, but I feel I have to share my experience. Our stay was extremely upsetting and disappointing. My toddler opened a dresser drawer, and the entire dresser fell onto her because it was not properly secured to the wall. Thankfully, she appeared to be okay, but it was terrifying to have a piece of furniture fall onto my child. This could have resulted in a very serious injury. On top of that, none of my family members had hot water during our stay. We literally dreaded taking a shower because the water was only lukewarm. I also had to bathe my newborn daughter in lukewarm water, which was incredibly upsetting and unacceptable. What made the situation even worse was how the staff handled my concerns. Instead of trying to resolve the issues or showing concern after a dresser fell on my child, I was told that I shouldn't stay at the hotel anymore. I found that response extremely dismissive and upsetting, especially when I was raising legitimate concerns about my family's safety and the conditions of our stay. I will never stay here again. This experience definitely falls short of what I would expect from a luxury Palm Beach hotel. A luxury hotel should provide a safe environment, working basic amenities, and respectful, attentive customer service-especially when a serious safety incident occurs. Unfortunately, this stay fell far short of those expectations, and I hope management takes these concerns seriously so another family doesn't have to go through the same experience."

"We were very disappointed in our stay. For the positives, the location is excellent and the old Fl architecture is perfect for Palm Beach. That’s where the good part ends. While the rooms are ok, beware of a problem that keep you from sleeping. The bath tub jacuzzi started automatically at 5:15 am and was so loud that we couldn’t possibly sleep. An attendant tried to fix it without success. It stopped after 30 minutes but started again 15 minutes later. This continued throughout the morning. Management told us that this was the way the jacuzzi cleans itself and offered no other insight. Beware if you book the Brazilian Court. We left after one night."

"We enjoyed a wonderful weekend at the Brazilian Court to celebrate our anniversary. The accommodations, intimate, charming European feel , friendly staff and excellent cuisine made for a special trip. The complementary intercoastal yacht cruise and golf cart service to the beach complete with an umbrella , chairs and beach towels was the cherry on top. We are repeat guests and look forward to returning soon."
