PB hotel design editorial

Addison Mizner's Mediterranean Revival vocabulary — white stucco facades, terracotta tile rooflines, arched loggias, and ornamental scallop-shell friezes — defined Palm Beach's architectural character in the 1920s, and the building that became White Elephant Palm Beach draws directly from that lineage. Situated on South County Road, the property was substantially reimagined in recent years and relaunched under the White Elephant brand, sister property to the original Nantucket institution. The courtyard view reveals the full Spanish Colonial composition: four stories of white-painted stucco stepping back in tiered balconies, black-trimmed windows punctuating the rhythm, and a pool terrace laid with limestone pavers where navy-and-white striped umbrellas supply the resort's graphic signature. Inside, the guest rooms strike a tone closer to a well-curated collector's apartment than a standard hotel fit-out — woven rattan pendant lights, upholstered curved headboards in warm linen, Carrara marble-topped side tables on blackened steel pedestals, and original artwork leaning toward bold geometric abstraction with tropical inflections. The restaurant draws a deliberate contrast: dark walnut paneling, pressed-tin ceilings, and a circular bar inlaid with the names of Iberian ports telegraph a supper-club weight entirely separate from the poolside ease elsewhere. The outdoor dining terrace, framed by the Mizner-esque arched facade and furnished with rattan bistro chairs and floral-printed bench cushions, pulls both registers together under one persuasively Floridian sky.

About

From an icon of Nantucket hospitality comes a fully renovated destination resort in Palm Beach. Experience the timeless charm and elegance of White Elephant with a brand-new Palm Beach sensibility. A complete, five-star renovation includes hardwood floors, woven rugs, exquisite tiles, and a color palette in soft neutrals inspired by Palm Beach. Built in 1924, reimagined today, the footprint and façade of the original structure remain, but the interior has undergone a total transformation led by Boston-based Elkus Manfredi Architects. The hotel features 13 deluxe rooms and 19 suites, including two penthouse suites located on the fourth floor, the Park & Palm Suites. We are pleased to share that White Elephant Palm Beach was recently featured in Travel + Leisure Magazine’s World’s Best Awards – as #1 Resort in Florida, #2 Resort in the Continental US, and #19 Best Hotel in the World.

"We had an absolutely wonderful stay at the White Elephant Palm Beach while celebrating our 26th anniversary. After a very difficult few years for our family, this trip meant a lot to us—and the staff truly made it unforgettable. Adam Yazinka was the standout of our visit. From check-in through departure, he went above and beyond in every possible way. He anticipated our needs before we even asked—whether it was having a beach cooler ready each morning or preparing bikes with waters and even protecting our phones from overheating. His attention to detail and genuine care are unmatched. Karen was also fantastic—so warm, kind, and sincere. Her smile brightened our day every time we saw her, and it’s clear how much she cares about guests. We also loved Xavier, John Wayne, and Luis, who made getting around town and enjoying the beach effortless and fun. They were always friendly, professional, and accommodating. We are so grateful to the entire team for making our stay so special. This was truly a magical experience, and we can’t wait to return! — Johnna & Mark Massoni"

"We cannot say enough good things about this hotel! We booked a couples’ weekend getaway at the last minute after a terrible experience with another hotel, and choosing the White Elephant turned out to be the best decision. It completely exceeded our expectations. From the moment we walked in, the staff greeted us warmly and made us feel right at home. They went above and beyond throughout our stay to ensure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. A special thank you to Karen, Xavier, and JohnWayne for their outstanding customer service. Their professionalism, kindness, and attention to detail truly made our weekend memorable. They are a huge asset to the hotel and absolutely deserve recognition for the exceptional experience they provided. We are already looking forward to our next stay at the White Elephant!"

"Terrible service from booking until check-out. Terribly overpriced."

"We had a really disappointing experience at the White Elephant Palm Beach. We booked this stay for our anniversary, expecting something special based on the photos on amex travel, but the reality was completely different. The biggest issue was the balcony. It was presented as a private outdoor space, but in reality it was fully exposed and offered no privacy whatsoever with our neighbors greeting us in bathrobes and drinking beer when we checked in... Within 10 minutes of arriving, it was clear this wasn’t what we booked, so we made the decision to leave. We cancelled immediately and had to scramble to find another hotel on our anniversary night, which completely disrupted our plans. For a property at this price point, accurate representation matters. This felt misleading and frankly unacceptable. I would strongly recommend confirming the exact room details before booking—or choosing another hotel altogether."

"It will be hard to put into words how wonderful our experience was at the White Elephant ! First and foremost of what made it a 10 star experience was the service. If you and your children want to feel like Eloise at the Plaza for a trip, this is the place to go. When we arrived we were met outside and they personally walked to our car to come retrieve our things. Next we entered to prosecco, and toys for the children. Then Adam walked us to our room (highly recommend the 1 bedroom suite) and there was a teepee, children’s books, snacks, juice boxes, a toy campfire with faux marshmallows and lantern, a blanket palette for a slumber party, crayons and a coloring book, AND building blocks and Velcro fruit to play with ! As well as adorable childrens shampoo & wash ! This was all done by Karen, the concierge, was the most thoughtful person to come up with every item! Then, one evening we decided to stay in and have a movie night and Karen personally brought up fresh homemade cookies, milk, and popcorn! The attention to every detail was impeccable and we are just so appreciative. Then, as for my mother and I we had so many little tiny requests like dinner reservations, babysitters, boat experiences (closed for the season but an option during the season), car rides & airport transfers, and they always accommodated with smiles on their faces, never seeming to be annoyed even though we had to be the most high maintenance guests ! Other really fun unexpected luxury perks of this hotel included golf cart rides and chair/umbrella set up at the beach! Then, anytime we wanted they gave us a ride from their house BMW SUV cars to go wherever we wanted on the island and be picked up. This is SO helpful because the hotel is about a 35 minute walk to worth avenue, so this made it very easy to get places! Not having to call an uber and load our kids in and out of different Ubers multiple times a day made the experience just that much more enjoyable. The drivers, shout out to Jeff for answering all of my 5 year olds questions :) and to Xavier for being so kind to our family. And Damien as well! 4pm wine & cheese in the lobby - a delight! Softest bed & linens! The pool was so warm, perfect to swim in all day. Lola the restaurant attached had such good food as well! I know I am leaving out a few names that were ever so kind and helpful to us so I hope you know we appreciated you as well! To us, it’s the best service we have ever experienced and we have stayed at countless hotels. None have ever, or will ever, compare. We are now White Elephant guests for life! -Kelly & Robin"
