PB hotel design editorial

Longboat Key's barrier island had not seen a development of this scale in fifty years when the St. Regis Longboat Key Resort opened in August 2024, its five floors and 168 rooms spread across eighteen Gulf-front acres designed by 10 Design. The massing is confidently modern — white concrete and full-height glazing stepping back from a broad white-sand beach, a private pier extending straight into the luminous turquoise shallows — without the pastiche Mediterranean detailing that dominates so much of Florida's resort coast. From the air, the complex reads as a series of horizontal planes interspersed with palm-threaded pool terraces and lawn, the geometry softened by landscape rather than ornament. Inside, HBA Miami and Dutch East Design drew on Sarasota's performing arts and circus legacy for an interior programme that grows more theatrical as you move deeper into the building. The guest rooms keep things quieter: wide-plank oak floors, upholstered headboards in textured grey, white marble side tables, floor-to-ceiling sliders framing the Gulf on three sides. The real drama belongs to the bar, where warm walnut panelling curves up into a sculptural coffered ceiling, a fireplace surround in heavily veined black-and-white marble dominates one wall, and brass-footed stools line a grey marble counter while a mosaic floor sets the whole room glittering. The pool terrace restaurants are more relaxed, shaded by articulated white pergolas and furnished with rattan seating, the whole arrangement oriented to catch the slow Gulf light.

"Pretty tough to beat the experience at the St Regis at Longboat Key. Some truly exceptional service and experiences. The pools, lazy river and associated service are incredible. Rooms and overall service are 5-star. Any negative reviews are from people that are Bonvoy entitled and not paying. Tim (concierge) made everything easy and is a trusted resource. He is everything you would ever want out of a 5 star concierge. Tiffany at Riva (restaurant) is such an incredibly kind, witty, thoughtful and likable waitress. We asked for her three days in a row, and she always delivered. Lake (front desk) and everyone at the front desk and butlers were dynamic! If you want a luxury property with exceptional service in a truly stunning location, this is an awesome choice! We will be back soon! A 5 star property without question!"

"Multiple failures First I do understand that things happen but I do not accept lying to guests. We checked in at 2 pm and were told the suite had just been vacated. The receptionist claimed he would send housekeeping right then. After waiting and waiting 4pm checking comes up. The manager only comes out when I demand to see him. He explained that in fact the suite had not been vacated when we had arrived. I then asked for an accurate assessment and was told 20 minutes. In fact that was another lie. We were brought to the suite at 4:40pm. The manager also stated that the reception gentleman had been told about not misrepresenting situations to a guest. However when I saw him the next day and inquired, he made it clear that he had not had any such discussion. Other failures included waiting for quite awhile for a server at the beach restaurant. Apologies by the hostess really only go so far. A cabana at the beach was not prepared bc they were waiting for the right covers but we were assured that they would come as soon as available. Two hours later we called them over and they fixed it properly but we had to call them over. The property has many events and they are the priority. Areas of the pool on a busy weekend were closed off for a birthday party. A wedding went loudly into the night - if I was a parent with children, I would not be happy. The suite was fine but the primary bathroom was small. A safe was bolted in the floor bc per the bellman a design mistake had been made. As with all St Regis the butler service is mythical. A text message service of how is it going and can I be helpful does not compare to true butler service such as at the Oriental hotels. Positives were the cw restaurant which although expensive was quite good all around. The food servers at the pool and beach were efficient and pleasant. Finally the valet-bellman were top notch. Overall this resort charges high prices and delivers lackluster service. I guess they figure that they are the only choice in the area. I will head to Naples Florida or to Palm Beach. Really a shame for a nice property to be such a disappointment. I wish to reiterate that after having traveled extensively, I understand things happen and if I had been told there would be a delay in getting into the suite, I would have worked things out. But being lied to several times overbis just not acceptable."

"Santiago Rodriguez was a fantastic host! Everything was 5 stars. Santiago will be the only reason we will be returning. Very knowledgeable about everything and actually convinced us to book our stay again for next year. If you are on the beach side, or monkey bar, REQUEST SANTI."

"First time at this hotel. Very super fast and friendly check in with Valet George. Very friendly Pool attended name Charles, but the bartender at the Monkey bar was not very friendly, nor did he brought a good Aperol Spritz. Nor a Napkin. Poorly for the price. It really didn't feel like a luxury resort/hotel. The sign into the hotel is very difficult to see, we past it and had to turn around. It was also very loud music playing, not a relaxing afternoon close to the beach. The beach and water looked amazing."

"Just wrapped up a fabulous stay at St. Regis Longboat Key. My husband and I were celebrating our 16 year anniversary and the staff went out of their way to make us feel special. The resort is incredible and every staff member made us feel like we were their top priority. We spent everyday at the pool and the pool concierge and food service was top notch. Although it was busy it never felt overly crowded. We enjoyed a nightly drink at the lobby bar and enjoyed the 6pm champagne sabering celebration every night. We had breakfast at Riva and the avocado toast was delicious. We also had dinner at Riva and CW and both were phenomenal. We enjoyed exploring the lagoon area and checking out Jack & Rose. We look forward to bringing our kids back to explore this amazing resort! 5 star service at every step of the way!"
