PB hotel design editorial

Longboat Key's barrier island had not seen a development of this scale in fifty years when the St. Regis Longboat Key Resort opened in August 2024, its five floors and 168 rooms spread across eighteen Gulf-front acres designed by 10 Design. The massing is confidently modern — white concrete and full-height glazing stepping back from a broad white-sand beach, a private pier extending straight into the luminous turquoise shallows — without the pastiche Mediterranean detailing that dominates so much of Florida's resort coast. From the air, the complex reads as a series of horizontal planes interspersed with palm-threaded pool terraces and lawn, the geometry softened by landscape rather than ornament. Inside, HBA Miami and Dutch East Design drew on Sarasota's performing arts and circus legacy for an interior programme that grows more theatrical as you move deeper into the building. The guest rooms keep things quieter: wide-plank oak floors, upholstered headboards in textured grey, white marble side tables, floor-to-ceiling sliders framing the Gulf on three sides. The real drama belongs to the bar, where warm walnut panelling curves up into a sculptural coffered ceiling, a fireplace surround in heavily veined black-and-white marble dominates one wall, and brass-footed stools line a grey marble counter while a mosaic floor sets the whole room glittering. The pool terrace restaurants are more relaxed, shaded by articulated white pergolas and furnished with rattan seating, the whole arrangement oriented to catch the slow Gulf light.

The St. Regis Longboat Key Reviews

"Our stay at The St. Regis Longboat Key Resort exceeded every expectation. The resort is breathtaking: from the gorgeous lobby , to the finishes, to the lagoon, lazy river, pools, and beautiful beach…but what sets this property apart is the level of service, and the people who provide it! This property embodies the St Regis philosophy, and most of the team members made us feel like valued guests. We especially would like to recognize the extraordinary associates who made such a lasting impression: Butler Kyleigh delivered the highest level of personalized service we have ever experienced at any luxury hotel. Her thoughtful touches, attention to detail, warmth, and ability to anticipate our needs before we even voiced them perfectly exemplified the St. Regis standard. She is an exceptional ambassador for the brand. A heartfelt thank you as well to Evan, Pala, Estefania, Jordan, Shelley, Aidan, Isaiah, Iriuv, Connor at The St. Regis Bar, Javier, Xaxier, Jeanette in In-Room Dining, Butler Mark, Jay from Valet, and the wonderful woman who greeted guests at the host stand. Each of the above mentioned contributed something special, whether it was a warm smile, genuine conversation, outstanding recommendations, prompt service, and making us feel welcomed throughout our stay. They provided not only services, but a high level of hospitality that we will never forget! We would especially like to mention Jordan Shelley, who was our interaction with the St. Regis. He immediately set the tone for our vacation with exceptional recommendations, professionalism, and knowledge about the property and the area. Thank you for creating memories that our family will cherish forever! We cannot wait to return."

"Our April stay at The St. Regis Longboat Key Resort was truly extraordinary. The property is absolutely breathtaking - brand new, elegant, serene, beautifully designed, and perfectly situated for a luxurious escape on Longboat Key. From the gorgeous pools and beach to the impeccable accommodations and exceptional dining it was a breath of fresh air! There was always some fun entertainment going on as well - not sure if this was simply due to a holiday weekend but it seemed there was never a limit on fun things to experience! One of the most incredible features is the resort’s onsite aquarium which was such an unexpected and memorable part of the visit. It adds something truly distinctive to the property and makes the resort feel even more magical!! There is a large viewing area you can see underwater as well as many areas to view from above. There are also two resident turtles!! What elevated our visit most, however, was the remarkable service. Peter, the concierge, went above and beyond to help create so many special moments throughout our stay for our anniversary. His thoughtfulness, attention to detail, and genuine desire to make our experience unforgettable meant more to us than we can say. He did not simply assist with arrangements; he helped turn an already beautiful trip into a collection of memories we will always treasure! We would also love to recognize Michael who drove us to Shore and some other places in the gorgeous resort SUV. He made what could have been a simple ride into such a fun and memorable part of the evening. His warmth, personality, and wonderful service set the tone for an amazing night. Our room was excellent (although our only complaint was there could be a bit more counter space in the bathroom) and had all amenities you could wish for in this level of a property! Definitely consider going for the deluxe oceanfront rooms as it was well worth it and the balcony was quite expansive and furnished with a table and chairs as well as a comfortable chaise lounge! We were above one of the restaurants but we had no interruptions or additional noise at all. Beach was great and had loungers, daybed, beach service, turf area, games, easy access to additional restaurants, etc!! Massive lazy river that spans the whole area in front of the hotel with lots of great nooks to sit in as well!! The St. Regis Longboat Key is undeniably stunning but it is the people who make it truly exceptional. The combination of a spectacular setting, unique amenities, and hospitality made our stay very special. We will definitely return and would recommend this resort without hesitation!"

"Paola welcomed us with a smile and a treat for our granddaughter. We had a wonderful time from first to finish. I highly recommend the Cafe Caroline, the French pastries are very good. We also tried the ice cream. The swimming pools were great and the grassy area by the beach wonderful. We appreciated all the details and the professionalism of the staff. Can’t wait to go back."

"We recently stayed at this resort for the third time this year and were eager to return. My husband and I are Florida residents and we love to stay at top quality resorts nearby just to have an occasional R and R. I should mention that we are loyal Marriott titanium members and my husband has been so for business purposes for more than 50 years. If this had been our first time staying at this resort I doubt we would have ever returned. Before we arrived we had received a message stating we were to be given an upgrade which the lady who checked us in also mentioned. We walked into our room and I was very surprised that instead of the usual little foyer entrance we were basically walking into the closet. (Pictures included). We were told this was a deluxe oceanfront room but it was nowhere as “deluxe” as the last two rooms we have had and no way would it be considered an upgrade. Yes, we could see the gulf but instead of the beautiful huge balcony we were accustomed to, it was a dinky little balcony from which we could see very little of the pools, etc. Our view was basically lots and lots of roofline. Such a disappointment! We went out to the adults only pool and the first thing I noticed was there were no floating lounge chairs in the pool like there always had been. I inquired why from the pool attendant and all I got in return was a shrug. There was no welcome just a very limited menu of food and beverage. On our previous visits we were offered choices from the very close by restaurant. I noticed the pool looked cloudy but when I inquired was told it had just been emptied and refilled so I used it anyway. My mistake! A day later I began suffering from an ear infection that although treated very mainly caused me pain for over two weeks. To conclude we were treated very poorly by mainly snobbish staff. I suggest you take lessons from the Orlando Bonnet Creek resort where we have stayed over 30 times. They are so well trained and well managed and consistent that we are always felt welcomed and comfortable. I was going to include the room number and suggest clients refuse to stay there but I have forgotten it. It was a very less than enjoyable experience for a very overpriced resort. We do not mind paying the extravagant prices for a good experience but not for what we had."

"I cannot begin to list every spectacular thing we experienced and saw at the St Regis Longboat Key, but let me start by saying the location is on one of the most beautiful beaches on the west coast of Florida. To ensure it's pristine beauty, the incredible beach staff keep it manicured and take care of the property as well as they care for the guests. The rooms are the epitome of luxury. I have stayed in many beautiful places, but I have never slept in a more comfortable, beautifully appointed bed. The furnishings are of the highest quality and housekeeping service is second to none. The food is superb at every venue we tried. Far better than any Marriott property I have ever experience: truly elevated. The butler experience is like none other. Our butler was available and attentive to our needs and we were delighted by her anticipating our needs and taking such good care of us. The luxury extends from the room to the food to the delightful complimentary offerings like mochi on the beach (or in our case, delivered to us in the Gulf of Mexico!) or a salty snack or a delightful fresh watermelon drink or lemonade with cucumber!! The staff, was exceptional in cheerful service. The live entertainment each evening in the lobby bar is special. The entire place is abuzz with good vibes and happy patrons, a wonderful thing to experience."
