PB hotel design editorial

Peachtree Street's downtown corridor has never been an easy address for luxury hospitality, where convention hotels and corporate towers crowd out any sense of intimacy — which makes the particular achievement of The Ritz-Carlton Atlanta worth examining. The tower, rising some 25 floors above the street in granite-clad postmodern massing, announces itself through a deeply recessed entrance arch framing a gilded lunette window, a classical gesture that holds its own against the surrounding glass curtain walls. Opened in 1984, the 444-room property was among the first Ritz-Carlton hotels to establish the brand's American urban model: formal European service codes translated into a Southern city still finding its footing as a convention and finance capital. The guest rooms, refreshed in a renovation that brought the interiors into a cleaner contemporary register, work a palette of cool grey and warm taupe — tufted fabric headboards, chrome-accented case goods in bleached oak, and angular swing-arm reading lamps against textured grasscloth wallcovering, the downtown skyline visible through deep-set casement windows that frame views toward CNN Center and beyond. At street level, the Atlanta Grill delivers a contrasting atmosphere: dark-stained millwork, coffered ceilings, plaid banquette upholstery, and geometric red-framed pendant lights that borrow their energy from a bourbon-bar vernacular, while a covered porch terrace furnished with red-ticked bistro chairs extends the dining experience directly onto Peachtree.

"The Ritz Carlton is a very elegant hotel. The lobby is very classy . The valets were diligently at the door. The first appearance is that this hotel is definitely a 5 star hotel. The location of this hotel is in downtown Atlanta. The location is near the Mercedes Bentz area, the Georgia Congressional Center, Centennial Olympic Park and near a lot of restaurants. The rooms were typical. Nothing stood out as a 5 star hotel. The sofa had a stain on it. The room didn't have a clean look that you would expect from the Ritz Carlton hotel. Although the staff was friendly, they didn't provide any extra attentiveness that would stand out from any other hotel."

"The room was nice, but..... Hotel lobby too crowded. At check in, room was not ready. On top of that they didn't notify me when it was. Drinks too expensive in lobby area and of no value. No ice on the floors Valet drop off not adequate. Coffee in room was beyond awful. Shower door in the wrong side. Ancillary charges ripping you off. Internet was not accessible even with a membership. Not worth the money. No personalized service."

"Room smelled of bleach when we first walked in. Went to dinner at the steak restaurant wasted $300+ dollars on dinner we could have had way better at Texas Roadhouse for a fraction of the price. Would have e tasted so much better too. Terrible! I don’t mind paying for good food, but the filet mignon was bad and over cooked. Not what I requested."

"I arrived at the Ritz Carlton Atlanta Sunday February 15th, extremely excited to celebrate my birthday. I called prior to my stay to arrange to have a surprise waiting for me. Kory greeted me and poured me a glass of Champagne to kick of the celebration while I waited for me room. After my room was finally ready, I walked into the awful smell of mildew and went right back downstairs, and Kory immediately put me in another room, Thanks Kory :-) I then went downstairs to mix and mingle I met the GM Mr. E Schinnerl and he stated that he would take care of me because I was celebrating my birthday. There was a mixup of some sort and I had to call at least 8 times to the front desk about the amenity that I prearranged. Hotel Security came to my room and demanded that I give them truffles that I was never delivered to my room, then I was told a manager would come to my room but a front desk associate named Eroll came to my room, and apologized and offered me 10,000 points in which I never received. I had to stay up over an hour and a half waiting for the prearranged amenity, and I had an early flight the next morning. The next morning one of the Front Desk Managers, Matthew Bass completed disrespected and embarrassed me stating bc I had a discounted rate it was a privilege to stay at this awful hotel, no empathy, no hospitality just downright rude and disrespectful. I was still a guest no matter what my rate was, now I will let everyone know never ever to stay at the Ritz Carlton in Atlanta It's The Absolute Worst Ritz Carlton!!!"
