PB hotel design editorial

Rising twenty-six floors above Buckhead's tree-lined midrise skyline, the limestone-clad tower that houses the St. Regis Atlanta presents an unusual proposition: Beaux-Arts classicism pushed to considerable height, its mansard roofline, arched fenestration, and applied ornamental detailing borrowed from the Parisian grand hotel tradition and transplanted to one of America's wealthiest suburban corridors. Opened in 2009 and designed by the Atlanta office of HKS Architects, the 151-room building carries its historical references with enough conviction that the exterior, particularly at dusk when the facade glows amber against the Georgia sky, sidesteps pastiche and arrives somewhere closer to genuine civic presence. The interiors sustain that ambition across registers. Public rooms like the bar — its tufted leather Chesterfields, orb pendant lanterns in wrought iron, and floor-to-ceiling wine storage framed in rusticated limestone arches — establish a clubby, transatlantic warmth that anchors the building's formal language at human scale. Guest rooms, refreshed in a subsequent renovation, balance that classical shell with a cleaner contemporary sensibility: chevron-veneered walnut credenzas on brass legs, upholstered headboards with sculpted wave detailing lit from behind, and burnt orange accent pieces that keep the palette from tipping into blankness. The elliptical pool terrace below, enclosed by arched stone loggias and dressed in red-and-white striped cabana furniture, completes the picture — a studied Mediterranean courtyard that somehow makes sense in the Georgia heat.

"I was in desperate need of a reboot and decided to book a Spa day at the St.Regis. I must say from the moment I arrive the experience felt welcoming, relaxing, and thoughtful. Curated. Jeffrey, who checked me in was simply amazing. His warm and professional demeanor immediately set the tone for my stay it made me feel genuinely welcomed. Breakfast the next morning was another highlight. Greeted by Mimi and served by Jia was absolutely amazing gracious attentive, and genuinely kind. She recommended the chicken and waffles omg it was soooo good! At the spa. Jackqeen checked me in and made the entire process seamless I arrive for my spa treatment a few hours early to enjoy the sauna which is where I met Maddie, who was so wonderful she guided me through my spa experience with such care and attentiveness ensuring that everything felt comfortable, relaxing and truly special my time with Aaron, my massage therapist who was absolutely incredible his skill and calming presence made my experience truly restorative. I just wish I booked more time. Every team member I encountered during my stay was smiling and happy creating an atmosphere that felt both luxurious and welcoming, but most important I am not sure who is responsible for assigning rooms but whoever you are thank you thank you and thank you again for 830 you are the bomb in the room was amazing In many ways it felt like 24 hours in paradise. I left feeling refreshed and incredibly grateful for the experience, it was exactly the reset I needed. St. Regis thank you for the extraordinary standards and this visit was perfectly reminder of why I will choose you again and again!"

"Amazingly beautiful rooms. Service is decent but not amazing. Housekeeping needs to be trained a little better."

"A short drive from the Peachtree/Dekalb Airport after some cold weather, strenuous work, We needed this relaxing, comfy two night stay before we head home to Sunny warm Florida. We stayed here during Covid over five years ago. Pretty much the same. Nice clean, comfy room, relaxing bed, awesome shower, great lobby bar, supreme service and hospitality by all. We dine in the hotel restaurant for breakfast and for dinner once and We dined next door at Chops for our second evening. Great hotel, terrific valet parking who did accommodate our large oversized van. We will be back!!!"

"We came to Atlanta for a little Anniversary trip. We are platinum Marriott members and have stayed at nice Marriott properties all over the world. The St. Regis in Buckhead is one of our favorites. We usually come here a couple times a year because of the great service and we love the location. This time, we had a few hiccups with the service. When we checked in, my wife ordered some coffee to be brought up but after an hour and still no coffee, she cancelled it because we were getting ready to leave. As we left, we asked to have extra pillows brought to our room, but when we returned, there were no pillows so we had to call down again to request the pillows. Finally, we ordered room service for dinner and after waiting over an hour, we called to check on the food and was told they delivered the food to the wrong room and had to make it again. We have always enjoyed staying here at the St. Regis and have always had excellent service. Hopefully this was an aberration and not a sign of declining service. They did comp the room service and gave us a hotel credit for our trouble without us having to ask which was nice. Will definitely be back"

"My wife booked this hotel so she could take me to a nearby restaurant for my birthday. We've stayed at this St. Regis at least once before this visit. Rooms at this property start at north of $800. Prior to our arrival we received an email from the Director of Guest Services inviting us to email back with anything that would make our stay more enjoyable. We emailed back, let him know that we were staying at the hotel for my birthday, and requested the following: 1. Use of the house car (if there was one) to and from the restaurant. There was no response from the hotel. At check in the front desk clerks were clueless about it but the valets (who I believe are contracted and not hotel employees) were able to help us arrange for the house car. 2. An early check in, so we could do a little Christmas shopping before our dinner reservation. There was no response from the hotel. We renewed this request at 2:00 pm when we arrived and were told that our room was not ready. When we asked for an estimated time it would be ready, the front desk clerk said "I can't tell you that because it would create an expectation that might not be realistic." Our room was ready sometime shortly after 4:00 which is the posted check in time. 3. Based on our Marriott loyalty status, a room upgrade. There was no response from the hotel. We renewed our request at check-in, ultimately received no upgrade when we were finally given a room, but still were never told that we could or could not receive one. The impression I came away with was that Marriott loyalty membership was, if anything, an aggravation to the front desk staff. It certainly did not seem to be a positive. 4. We travel with a service animal, a dog, and I had put this in the notes when the reservation was made. I again mentioned that we would be traveling with the service animal. 5. Because I mentioned my birthday, this apparently triggered a request from the Guest Services Coordinator (which I don't think I was supposed to see) to his "team" to provide us with the following amenities: birthday card, birthday cake, a bottle of prosecco or sparkling water (depending on whether we paid more than $800 for the room) and a "dog amenity." NONE of that ever happened. Epic fail on the part of the "team." Although we did not encounter any specific problems, the hotel property is 15 years old and is starting to show signs of wear and tear as well as being a little dated. During our over two hour wait for our room, we had lunch in the hotel bar and also had breakfast in the breakfast restaurant area the next morning. The food while very pricey is nothing special. The charge for breakfast with tip (and before Marriott breakfast voucher) was over $80. Breakfast at a Fairfield or Courtyard is as good or better. Although other guests, including people we know, have complained about excessive or loud noise during their stay, we didn't experience any of that. Our part of the hotel was quiet and peaceful in that regard. The hotel is conveniently located near restaurants and shopping, but there are a number of upscale hotels, some of them Marriott properties, in the same area that are much more reasonably priced. Overall, we had a pleasant stay at this hotel but were extremely disappointed in the lack of responsiveness and follow through from the hotel staff. There are much better run hotels than the St. Regis with comparable amenities at a significantly better price point in the Buckhead area. The St. Regis is in actuality just a Fairfield Inn with a doorman."
