PB hotel design editorial

At the foot of Bald Mountain in Ketchum, Idaho, where Sun Valley's ski runs are visible from nearly every room, a four-story building clad in stacked stone and dark steel framing brings a contemporary urban register to a mountain town more accustomed to timber-heavy lodge vernacular. The Limelight Hotel Ketchum, which opened in 2016 as part of Aspen Skiing Company's expansion of its Limelight brand beyond Colorado, was designed to sit comfortably within the downtown street grid while still gesturing toward the landscape that defines the valley. The facade's layered stonework and floor-to-ceiling glazing — visible in both the winter aerial and the summer pool terrace images — strike a balance between civic weight and mountain lightness that most ski-town hotels fail to achieve. Inside, the interiors work a palette of warm blond oak, dove-grey upholstery, and acid-yellow accent pillows — a color combination that carries through the lobby bar, with its plum-upholstered tub chairs and chartreuse ottomans, into the guestrooms, where low-platform beds with fabric headboards and built-in window benches frame unobstructed views toward the slopes. The 99-room property keeps its spatial language deliberately clean: rooms rely on natural light and the mountain panorama beyond French doors rather than decorative layering to establish character. The outdoor pool terrace, anchored by a concrete fire pit and bordered by the building's stacked-stone base, extends that same restrained warmth into the high-altitude summer season.

"I was very disappointed with the hotel. It was not as good as my previous stay . Mediocre breakfast, Luke warm hot tub. Nobody greeted us or offered to help with luggage. Very loud environment. Slow service on the deck. They need to do better for the price charged."

"Fantastic location, walkable neighborhood, superb views, lovely (small) pool, and solid restaurant. This was one of the most comfortable hotels we've found for a family vacation sharing a room with our two kids, ages 8 and 5. The double queen room with a balcony was spacious and laid out thoughtfully, with enough drawers and nightstands for everyone to put their clothes and items away. We all enjoyed the breakfast buffet and also had two solid dinners on site. You can easily walk to shopping and dining, and can be at the ski lift in 5 minutes via car. We highly recommend the bike and walking trail that winds through and out of town along the Wood River -- just gorgous."
