PB hotel design editorial

Carved from the early twentieth-century Red Bull Building in Chicago's West Loop — a former warehouse whose deep-red brick facade, steel-framed factory windows, and Ionic-columned entrance portico survive almost entirely intact — Soho House Chicago brought the London members' club format to the American Midwest when it opened in 2014. The conversion kept the industrial bones deliberately exposed: raw brick walls, poured concrete ceilings, and double-height warehouse volumes remain visible throughout the property's 40 rooms and extensive common areas, while Soho House's in-house design team layered in a domestic warmth that pulls against the building's mercantile origins. That tension between the rough and the refined is what gives the interiors their particular character. The ground-floor bar sets a curved mahogany counter beneath tiered crystal chandeliers, parquet flooring meeting exposed brick in an arrangement that feels more like a well-furnished private townhouse than a hotel lobby. Guestrooms follow a similar logic: turned-post four-poster beds and mirrored Venetian side tables sit beneath unfinished concrete soffits, while olive and terracotta velvet club chairs anchor Oriental-patterned rugs on wide-plank timber floors. The rooftop pool deck, its blue-and-white striped chaises arranged along a lap pool against the full Chicago skyline, makes the building's warehouse-district setting feel less like a compromise and more like the whole point.

"Great team! Beautifully arranged room with a thoughtfully curated mini bar. Great to see the property is still doing great - I hadn’t been in over 10 years."

"My daughter and I Sat at the bar after a day of holiday shopping. Despite it not being busy and bar tenders and servers around, we waited over 10 minutes for anyone to come by to even say hi. It was like we were putting everyone out just to get water and a menu. The bar tender literally stood at the other end of the bar talking to other servers ignoring us and another patron sitting next to us. This was the third time we’ve had horrible service here. Never going back and would not recommend. There are so many amazing places in the West Loop with much better food, atmosphere, and service. DON’T WASTE YOUR TIMR AND MONEY! it’s all a label at this point! No substance."

"A most magnificent hotel. Converted from an old belt factory, it's steeped in history and just oozes period charm. Every inch of it has been designed by an expert; each and every floor revealing ever more charming places to eat, drink and work. Our bedroom was fabulous, the attention to detail manifest and comfort levels off the scale. From the height of the ceilings to the size of the room, via the classy furnishings and monumental bed, it was just a glorious place to relax. Every need had been thought about - we especiually appreciated the tin of cookies. It has the most impressive gym with a full array of equipment and indecent amounts of space, a roof top pool affording incomparable views, restaurants and bars which make it difficult to leave. However, above all the splendour, comfort and majesty of the place comes the staff. They were to a person - wonderful! Helpful, committed and hospitable and genuinely interested in our wellbeing and the quality of our stay. It ranks amongst one of the best hotels I have stayed in and would recommend it unreservedly."

"Went for breakfast love the Fulton market area - it was really lovely had delicious granola and coffee - I would say the only thing that annoyed me is they took away my plates and my husband hadn’t finished - it’s an ick of mine - but the ambience suited the surrounding area perfectly"

"Loved everything about this place. Rooms were gorgeous and comfy and came with every amenity you could need. Beautiful decor and tasteful accessories, I could not fault it. It’s expensive - but you get what you pay for and I have no complaints. A very classy establishment. Thank you for having us."
