PB hotel design editorial

The carved limestone facade at 208 West Washington Street belongs to one of Chicago's more storied financial addresses — the former Continental Illinois National Bank and Trust Company building, whose Corinthian colonnade has anchored the Loop's banking corridor since 1914. The LaSalle Chicago, which joined Marriott's Autograph Collection following a comprehensive renovation completed around 2018, draws its identity from that institutional gravitas without being trapped by it. The 18-floor building holds 241 rooms, and the conversion required threading contemporary hospitality programming through a structure designed to project the permanence of capital. Inside, the lobby establishes its register with white marble floors inlaid with black border detailing, a long bar surfaced in book-matched stone, and dark walnut millwork panels that carry a quiet Art Deco authority. Guestrooms pursue a more overtly mid-century register — slate-blue panelled walls with raised moulding, tufted silver headboards, deep cobalt velvet sofas, and brass-and-glass drum chandeliers that nod toward 1940s Hollywood Regency without quite committing to it. Sunburst mirrors in gilded brass appear throughout as punctuation. The Grill 21 restaurant deepens the palette considerably: plum velvet banquettes with brass-trimmed bases, tiered crystal chandeliers, and oval gilt mirrors arranged in a rhythm along amber-toned walls. The effect across all three spaces is of a building that has been reminded of its own elegance rather than reinvented from scratch.

"Stayed here for business and we LOVED it! Everyone kept saying how comfortable their beds were. Loved the comfortable bedding, spacious deluxe room and loved the bath amenities and snack variety. Truly super luxurious, super clean and the hospitality was incredible. Definitely will be our chicago go-to hotel! Highly recommend."

"The LaSalle rooms are nicely decorated, spacious, comfortable and very well appointed. My room had every amenity you would need, including bathrobe, premium coffee maker, toiletries, water bottles and everything else you would expect. The bathroom and shower were nicely sized with double sinks, separate toilet and large shower. There was also a stocked mini bar which I didn’t use. I had a room facing out, but only a view of the office building next door. Some rooms appear to face in.to s courtyard. The room was quiet, no issues with noise. There was also plenty of closet and drawer space. Front desk check in was welcoming. Housekeeping did a great job keeping the room tidy, refreshing water and coffee daily. There is also a nightly turndown service. We had a very nice dinner at the 21 restaurant. The food was very tasty, service attentive, and seating was comfortable, although overall a bit pricey. I also took advantage of the complementary grab and go breakfast which was adequate with yogurt and fruit. They were also supposed to have pastry but it wasn’t there when I went to get my breakfast. We were in walking distance to downtown so we’re fine without a car and didn’t need to take too many Ubers to get where we needed to be. I would recommend the LaSalle and would select this hotel again if I were to return to Chicago."

"The main floor to check in is located on the 21st level, after check in the rooms are located on the lower levels 20,19,18,17, etc. Nicely decorated the hotel has a boutique feel, staff was friendly, helpful and attentive to your needs. The bar and restaurant are located on the 21st floor where check in is, the bar area is nice with a wide range of spirits for your liking and the restaurant small but cool has a solid menu selection. The rooms were nicely decorated and well maintained, very spacious with a large bathroom. Location wise this hotel is located in the financial district of the city and yes if you know what’s close you can walk to some bars, restaurants and Willis Tower. Excellent hotel and experience. Thanks for an awesome New Years experience Lasalle Autograph Collection"

"We appreciated our warm welcome from Stan as soon as we entered the downstairs lobby. He helped with luggage and ushered us up to the 21st floor reception. Check in was pleasant and professional. I think Maria was who checked me in - she was great! She helped me move the reservation into my name so my friend and I could enjoy my Titanium benefits. The lobby, rooms, halls, etc are all luxuriously decorated and set this hotel apart from other properties in the Loop area. Our Deluxe Queen/Queen room was oversized and included a double vanity, separated WC for privacy, double vanity sinks, two small couches, plus a table and chairs. Extras included premium coffee maker, robes/slippers, safe, and a mini bar with elevated options. We are already planning to return to The LaSalle!"

"The LaSalle Chicago, Autograph Collection delivers in service and attention to detail. Located a few minutes from Union Station and the Orange Line, it's centrally located in Downtown Chicago. Next to the JW Marriott, it competes pretty well with this brand name and gives a boutique hotel feel. On floor 21, the main reception area, three floors below, is dedicated to rooms. Floor 21 also has the front desk, bar, restaurant, meeting rooms, and reception. We booked two deluxe double bedrooms, which were quite spacious, with a double-sink bathroom and a view of some buildings in Downton and a parking lot. The beds and pillows were extremely comfortable, and we did not have any issues with noise. Before our group's arrival, their team had delivered two bottles of champagne with a welcome note, and we were pleased by the small gesture and the attention we all received. The breakfast on floor 21: depending on your Marriott Bonvoy status, you get a $18 per person credit (for up to two per room), and you can order à la carte or choose a continental breakfast for free that includes fruit, pastries, and coffee. For those who do not eat breakfast often, this might be a good deal, but we decided to order our own breakfast and reduce the cost with the $18 credit per person. There is also a fitness area you can use, and if you want to use the pool at the JW Marriott, you can buy a day pass to access their facilities next door. Parking can be pretty expensive, $88 per day, so either find a private parking lot in advance near the area or come to Chicago by train to avoid this cost. Finally, you get what you pay for, and upgrades are not easily given in this hotel. Even though an inventory of rooms/upgrades was available on the day of check-in, the front desk chose not to provide one. Overall, it is a great hotel that our group was more than thankful to experience and appreciate the attention to detail before our stay. It is worth considering it and giving it a try at least."
