PB hotel design editorial

At 203 North Wabash Avenue, the building that became Virgin Hotels Chicago in 2015 has a deeper story than its red neon sign suggests. Originally constructed in 1928 as the Old Dearborn Bank Building, the 27-floor terra-cotta-clad tower was designed in the Chicago Commercial style, its ornamental entrance canopy and brass-framed doors — visible in the images — preserved with evident care during the conversion. The architects of record for the hotel transformation worked within a structure whose bones already carried considerable architectural authority, and the lobby bar makes full use of the original double-height volume: a cascading pendant installation of bare-filament bulbs and glass drops falls above an oval bar clad in quilted crimson leather panels, its elliptical steel canopy holding suspended glassware in a gesture that is part aviation lounge, part Art Deco cinema. The 250 rooms were conceived around Virgin's proprietary Chamber layout, which divides each unit into a dressing vestibule and a separate sleeping area using a warm-toned sliding timber panel — a spatial idea that quietly solves the awkwardness of traditional hotel room entry. Beds carry a softly sculpted low-profile frame in off-white upholstery, paired with Saarinen-adjacent tulip tables used as desks, and patterned rugs in burgundy and navy that ground an otherwise pale palette. The rooftop bar, called the Everdine, takes a sharply different register — cross-cut timber log walls lit in deep red, a mounted elk head, blue velvet modular seating, and herringbone-tiled floors creating the atmosphere of a hunting lodge filtered through a downtown nightclub.

"- great location and fantastic staff but overall terrible product. - no housekeeping service at all. At first they said it was an extra fee, and when I said "sure how much" they needed to call back after checking - not possible at all. He promised to send someoen to collect trash and drop off towels but in 3 days no trash was collected. I had to call a second time to get the towels delivered. - my wife called the week before to confirm the rooftop would be open, but when I checked the day we arrived, it was closed. - i should have stayed at a marriott."

"Virgin Hotels Chicago did not disappoint! The location is excellent—just one block from the train, which made getting from the airport very easy. From the moment we arrived, the service was top-notch. Our valet, Mr. DeAndre greeted us, stored our luggage while we explored, and later personally escorted us to our room. Every staff member we encountered was friendly, professional, and welcoming. The rooms are a bit small but very clean, comfortable, and surprisingly quiet. The rooftop bar has a great vibe, and the food throughout the hotel was very enjoyable. I would definitely stay here again. Tip: A $20 bus pass gives unlimited rides for a week—cheaper and more convenient than Uber."

"Location: Same building as the virgin hotel. Very nice. Need room key to access anything past the lobby/second floor. Second floor was **Sorta Open**. I had never been there when it was the virgin, but it seems a bit more Sports Illustrated-y and modern. There was plenty of areas to sit, at the bar or otherwise, however the only area of the resort that was open at the time I was there was the coffee shop which you get a voucher for a free Coffee or free Cookie during your stay. Atmosphere: They are trying to get it a more "athlete/sports fan/bears fan" vibe. Which I understand, it wasn't overwhelming, most of that was apparent at check in, and some of the smaller inserts into the rooms. If you've stayed there when it was the Virgin, it wont feel any different. Rooms: I had a suite on the 17th floor. Very reasonably priced, Loved the layout, No microwave was in the suite but Living room with a coffee maker, TV, Table, Couch, and was spacious. There are two large wooden sliding doors that separate the bathroom which is in the middle of there and the bedroom. Has couples sinks, the closet is in there too with a yoga matt along with towels, ironing board, hair drier. The actual toilet was behind another door that locked and had it's own space and felt private especially if you stay there with a group. The bedroom has a two readers on each side, The tv was against the wall, and there was a sittingh area and a table in there along with being a corner room with a full view of the city with blackout blinds. for privacy when you need. it. The rooms vviipoipjbbbbbvu unlb bjjjwere very spacious and felt very cozy and relaxing. Value: JUST SO YOU KNOW THERE IS A **$250 INCIDENTAL** charge which i found incredibly excessive.. Additionally there is about a $25 resort. fee, that is for each day. I booked 3rd party and was surprised and shocked how excessive it seemed. I did get all of it returned to me thoough and they have a lenient and fair late check out policy. But still having to put that much down seemed dispopotionate Cleanliness: Clean And Very ORderly Noise Level: City can get loud but they give you earbplugs. Service: They were very kind. I fnd it hard to believe that the ENTIRE BUILDING DID NOT HAVE A MICROWAVE THOUGH Amenities: Not worth the price hike for incidentals but still very nice"
