PB hotel design editorial

Three historic facades on Louisville's West Main Street — a Beaux-Arts commercial building, a Romanesque Revival brick structure, and a gutted industrial shell whose exposed steel trusses now frame a glass-ceilinged bar — stand in deliberate conversation with a new copper-clad tower rising behind them. Together they form Hotel Distil, an Autograph Collection property that opened in 2019 and draws its identity entirely from the bourbon country that surrounds it. The name references Prohibition's repeal, a gesture that carries through to the ground-floor bar and the retractable-roof courtyard restaurant, where original brick walls are colonized by hanging ferns and a gas fireplace branded Repeal burns at the far end. The 195 guest rooms, spread across the new tower, stay grounded rather than flashy — tufted leather headboards in caramel and tan, custom geometric-patterned carpet in slate blue and cream, brass side tables, and bar carts that acknowledge the city's distilling culture without leaning into pastiche. Floor-to-ceiling windows in the upper rooms frame the Ohio River and the Clark Memorial Bridge, Louisville's industrial riverfront functioning as the view the interiors were built around. The main dining room, with its grid of copper-finished pipe rigging strung with filament bulbs above dark herringbone floors and red leather booth seating, carries the atmosphere of a serious Southern steakhouse — warm, unhurried, and clearly rooted in place.

"I stayed in a 1 King Bed River View Corner Deluxe Guest Room on a high floor in May 2026, and overall had a wonderful experience at Hotel Distil. The property itself is beautiful, and the staff made a great first impression. Valet service was quick and efficient, and the team was friendly enough to escort me and my luggage to my room after an easy, hassle-free check-in. My room was absolutely gorgeous, with stunning views of both the river and the city. The bed and furniture were very comfortable, and there was plenty of space to relax, work, enjoy a meal, or organize luggage. I also appreciated the unique bathroom layout, with the toilet in a separate room, the shower in its own alcove, and double sinks conveniently located in the main vanity area. All of the expected amenities, including the refrigerator and safe, were present and worked well. Room service was excellent. Some of the best food I've ever had in my life. I highly recommend the key lime pie. My only disappointment was that the hotel did not provide the advertised Bur-Bone pet package for my puppy, despite my contacting the hotel both before arrival and again through the app messaging system. However, they did offer a dog treat at check-in, which was appreciated. Overall, this is a lovely property with beautiful rooms, excellent views, friendly service, and a great location. I would happily stay here again."

"I stayed here for a couple of nights during a summit for work. I don’t have enough wonderful things to say about this hotel, or the restaurant onsite! I hope to stay here again!"

"This hotel hit it out of the park (Louisville Slugger pun totally intended) with their bourbon theme and food. I love the Autograph Hotels, and this did not disappoint. The location is hard to beat, as it's within walking distance of some of Louisville’s best restaurants, bars, and attractions, including Angel’s Envy, Old Forester, Michter’s, the outdoor NuLu Marketplace, and the Louisville Slugger Museum. The front desk team was friendly and genuinely helpful throughout our stay, including quickly fixing our shower head and delivering Amazon packages to our room. Housekeeping and room service were equally excellent, and our room was beautiful and comfortable; however, the views were just meh. One of the highlights of the hotel is the gorgeous speakeasy tucked away on the lower lobby level. The atmosphere is great, the bar is stunning, and the cocktails are excellent. Every evening at 19:33, they celebrate the repeal of Prohibition with Old Fashioneds in the lobby—a fun touch that really embraces the bourbon theme. Prices for cocktails are a little higher than you might find elsewhere in Kentucky, but they’re comparable to other speakeasies in the area and exactly what you’d expect from a hotel bar. Breakfast was included with our stay, and over several mornings we managed to work our way through the entire menu. Every meal was delicious. The red smashed potatoes were outstanding, and the dulce de leche pancakes were so good I ordered them more than once. We’re admittedly coffee snobs, and the staff went out of their way to accommodate our caffeine needs, which was greatly appreciated. And then there’s Repeal. Honestly, it’s the star of the show. The steaks were some of the best we’ve had anywhere. Make a reservation and go, even if you’re not staying at the hotel. Perfectly seasoned, perfectly cooked, and an exquisite cut of beef, but that's a separate review. One tip for future guests: make reservations for both the 1933 speakeasy and Repeal restaurant before your visit. They’re popular for good reason. If you’re looking for a stylish bourbon-country experience with excellent service, great food, and a perfect location, this hotel delivers on all fronts. We’d gladly stay here again."

"We had a great experience staying at this hotel. We reserved a corner room with a river view, which was nice. The view from the photo is a little nicer than the actual view in person, meaning in real life there's building roofs all around and it doesn't quite look as nice as it does in the photo. But the room itself was very nice, shower was great, decor is cool, bed is comfy. I'd stay here again. And the location was great, very central and close to everything cool."
