PB hotel design editorial

Named for a Cajun surname that signals Louisiana roots before you've crossed the threshold, Kimpton Hotel Fontenot is set within a mid-century commercial tower on Baronne Street, just off the edge of the Central Business District where downtown New Orleans begins to loosen into the Warehouse Arts District. The building's exterior — painted brick, metal awning, clean-lined fenestration — gives little away, which makes the interiors, designed by New York-based firm Parts and Labor Design, feel all the more deliberate in their warmth. The lobby arranges cane-backed chairs alongside deep green velvet tub seats on patterned wool rugs, low-slung reception consoles in fluted dark wood positioned beneath looping wire pendant lights that trace abstract gestures across a white paneled ceiling. Guest rooms carry the same restrained logic: iron and cane headboards painted matte black frame beds dressed in white linens with fine contrast stitching, blush velvet bench seats adding a note of softness against otherwise graphic interiors of near-monochrome walls and dark millwork. The contrast arrives at the Paladar Kitchen Bar and Lounge, where the register shifts entirely — cerulean blue lacquered walls, brass-framed back bar shelving, a dramatic branch-and-petal chandelier overhead, and a black-and-white encaustic tile floor seating mauve velvet banquettes opposite cobalt bar stools. It is a New Orleans room in the truest sense: theatrical, layered, and entirely unapologetic about pleasure.

"Our recent stay at the Kimpton Fontenot in New Orleans was nothing short of exceptional. We’ve stayed in many hotels over the years, and this property truly stands as the model for how a hotel should be run. From the moment we arrived until the day we checked out, every single staff member made us feel genuinely welcome. What impressed us most was that this wasn’t just the way they treated us—they treated every guest with the same warmth, professionalism, and kindness. It’s rare to see such a consistently guest-focused culture throughout an entire hotel. A special thank you goes to General Manager Jesseca and Assistant General Manager Alex. Their leadership is evident in every aspect of the property. You can tell they’ve built a team that takes pride in what they do, and it shows in every interaction. The team at Gospel Coffee Bar deserves recognition as well. Starting each morning with friendly faces, great service, and excellent coffee became one of the highlights of our stay. We’d also like to recognize Maria at King for breakfast. She made every morning feel welcoming, and her hospitality was the perfect way to start the day. We also traveled with our miniature pinscher, Brooklyn, and the Kimpton Fontenot rolled out the red carpet for her. She was treated like royalty from the moment we arrived. Having a cozy dog bed waiting in our room, along with food and water bowls and toys, made her feel just as welcome as we did. It’s clear that this hotel doesn’t simply advertise itself as pet-friendly, it genuinely embraces pets as part of the family, and Brooklyn absolutely loved every minute of her stay. Housekeeping was outstanding. Our room was impeccably and pristinely clean every single day, and it was obvious that great care was taken to maintain the highest standards. The Kimpton Fontenot doesn’t just provide a place to stay, it delivers a true hospitality experience. Every department worked seamlessly together, creating an atmosphere that was warm, polished, and effortlessly welcoming. The level of service we experienced is incredibly rare, and it speaks volumes about the culture Jesseca, Alex, and their entire team have created. Thank you to everyone at the Kimpton Fontenot for making our visit to New Orleans so memorable, not just for us, but for Brooklyn as well. We left feeling like we’d found a home away from home, and we can’t wait to return. We will enthusiastically recommend the Kimpton Fontenot to anyone looking for an exceptional hotel experience in New Orleans."

"I really like this hotel, location , atmosphere was wonderful. Close enough to everything without being in the French Quarter. The only issue I had was some of rooms carpet needed cleaning or remove. The staff was really excellent and went above and beyond for my concerns. Raye was great. The treatment from the staff is what really put this hotel over the top."

"We came to the Kimpton to attend my national convention. Extended family came too for the downtime between meetings. We stayed from 7/11/26 to 7/17/26. Even before we got there, Rae did a great job of addressing billing questions. She helped us again upon arrival when the billing questions came up again. She took care of other matters for us pleasantly and efficiently. Other people we want to compliment for great service and personability: Deaveon and Jerná at the front desk. All of our doormen (I only got Mo's name, but they were all great.) Matthew in the Peacock Room. Those people in particular made our stay special. Our room was very clean, quiet, and comfortable. There were five people in our party spread out over three rooms. We all felt the Kimpton was a very good place to stay and an excellent value."
