PB hotel design editorial

At 400 feet and 35 stories, the curved glass tower that houses Raffles Boston Back Bay Hotel & Residences announced itself on the Back Bay skyline in 2023 as something the city hadn't seen before — a double-cantilever structure designed by The Architectural Team that essentially floats its upper mass above Copley Square. That engineering ambition sets the tone for everything inside. Stonehill Taylor handled the hotel's guestrooms and public spaces, and the range is considerable: standard rooms layer warm oak floors, channeled leather headboards, and deep-toned walnut millwork in a palette that feels more Manhattan than Massachusetts, while the suite category pushes further with a burnished gold arched headboard surround flanked by dark marble nightstands — theatrical without tipping into excess. The property's sky lobby, spanning floors seventeen through nineteen, is where the tower's structural drama becomes fully legible. The rooftop bar, dressed by Studio Paolo Ferrari in channeled emerald velvet banquettes and sculptural multi-arm pendants with milk-glass diffusers, frames panoramic views of the Charles River and Boston Harbor at a scale that few hotel rooms in the city can match. Below, the Rockwell Group-designed spa includes a lap pool set beneath a double-height void, its dark concrete and polished ceiling reflecting the water in a quietly cinematic way. As the first Raffles property in North America, it carries the brand's colonial-era legacy into a building that is unambiguously of this decade.

"This hotel is simply the best. We showed up without a reservation, and from the moment we arrive, we were treated like we were family. Every single person was friendly, kind, and caring. They took time to get to know you and ask you questions. Ray a front office manager was very helpful and made our stay possible. Steven downstairs was great with our bags and first impression after arriving in blizzard. Cynthia who checked us was a blessing to us. We could relax and know we were well taken care of. Thanks also to Meredith, Malik, and Kristiana at front desk and Bai at checkout. Rory our butler also was very quick with the requested items thank you. Another amazing feature is they’re always by the front door to open the door for you and help you with your bags. A lot of other luxury hotels miss this. This is one of the most modern and beautifully designed hotels in the world. The best part is definitely the pool, sauna and steam room amenities. The fitness center is also top notch and offers great views. Our whole stay we felt relaxed and anything we needed. We would simply send a text to our butler and it was taken care of. I’m not sure why there are so many negative reviews because I couldn’t honestly find one flaw with this beautiful hotel. I travel extensively and have stayed at a lot of other luxury brands. This was my first raffles. I can’t wait to return!"

"Amazing experience. We were supposed to go skiing on school vacation week. Because of an injury, we couldn't go. So we did a staycation at Raffles. From the start of our trip to the departure, everything was seamless. The butler team checked in with me throughout the day. They treated us like a queen. We loved the room, attention to detail, the view, and the spa. I was sad to leave. I especially want to thank to Rory, Rey, Kenza, Lily, Sarah, Filmon,Taylor, Maxwell, Kieran, Tomas, Kristiana, Tori, Gonzalo, Tahir, Nadine, Julia, Melanie, Purushottam, and Avin. They made our stay unforgettable! I consider Raffles Boston my second home away from home. This was our fourth stay. We will be back."

"We stayed at Raffles Boston for New Year’s Eve 2025. Overall, the experience was very good. The room was modern, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed. Butler service was prompt and efficient, which added to the ease of the stay. Dinner at Amar was a highlight. The tasting menu was well executed, and both the food and service stood out. The bar was quite busy during the holiday, and the hotel does not prioritize guests. So you may need to seek refreshments off property. Overall, it was an enjoyable stay, and we would happily return to Raffles Boston in the future."

"This is my 3 stay in your hotel 🏨 and I started off bad with waiting for 30 min to check into my Emerald suite after arriving at 4:00pm ! It’s very upsetting especially arriving after a long long international flight and rushing to go to a meeting at 5:00pm! To make matters worst, I order uber to deliver a piece of thermo pants I needed for tonight, and it took concierge at least 30 mins to bring it from downstairs to my room!!!! And that’s after calling the butler 3 times on the phone!!! I could not take a shower cuz I kept waiting for the concierge!! I am so upset with your service!!! Unacceptable!! Started off my one night stay very upset!!! 🤬"

"Raffles Hotel (Boston): A stay here is like a visit at a museum: it’s a beautiful facility but that’s where it’s stops. The management and the services do not level up to the expectations. So glad we stayed for only 1 night. Facility 4*; management 1*; restaurant 1*; staff 2*. Overall: I would not recommend this establishment. Management: suggested we upgrade if we wanted room with a view; we had reserved the highest level King room (Grand) and our view was looking at the parking garage across the street. 👎 We ask for ice (no ice machine on floor); momentarily they say; 40min later, still no ice. We went to dinner and 1.5 later when we retuned we find open ice bucket on the floor outside our door. (Anyone could have spit in it!) As we lay down for the night btw 8-10, we were awaken 3 times by a faulty building alarm. Restaurants sampler: Burger $37, fries $15. Hmmm! Who they kidding! It’s a burger! The pool/fitness rooms: fabulous. However, we just got lucky. Hotel was low occupancy so not many guest. If a full house, it would not have been as pleasant!"
