PB hotel design editorial

At 400 feet and 35 stories, the curved glass tower that houses Raffles Boston Back Bay Hotel & Residences announced itself on the Back Bay skyline in 2023 as something the city hadn't seen before — a double-cantilever structure designed by The Architectural Team that essentially floats its upper mass above Copley Square. That engineering ambition sets the tone for everything inside. Stonehill Taylor handled the hotel's guestrooms and public spaces, and the range is considerable: standard rooms layer warm oak floors, channeled leather headboards, and deep-toned walnut millwork in a palette that feels more Manhattan than Massachusetts, while the suite category pushes further with a burnished gold arched headboard surround flanked by dark marble nightstands — theatrical without tipping into excess. The property's sky lobby, spanning floors seventeen through nineteen, is where the tower's structural drama becomes fully legible. The rooftop bar, dressed by Studio Paolo Ferrari in channeled emerald velvet banquettes and sculptural multi-arm pendants with milk-glass diffusers, frames panoramic views of the Charles River and Boston Harbor at a scale that few hotel rooms in the city can match. Below, the Rockwell Group-designed spa includes a lap pool set beneath a double-height void, its dark concrete and polished ceiling reflecting the water in a quietly cinematic way. As the first Raffles property in North America, it carries the brand's colonial-era legacy into a building that is unambiguously of this decade.

"I had an absolutely incredible stay at Raffles Boston—this hotel is truly something special. From the moment I arrived, I was struck by how beautiful everything is. The design is flawless, with an incredible attention to detail that makes every space feel both modern and elegant. The rooms are stunning—stylish, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed. The bed was so unbelievably comfortable, I genuinely wanted to take it home! The food was just as impressive. I had the best lobster roll and club sandwich I’ve ever tasted—everything was fresh, perfectly prepared, and absolutely delicious. What truly sets this hotel apart, though, is the staff. Every single person I encountered was warm, welcoming, and genuinely lovely. The level of customer service is outstanding and made the entire experience feel extra special. The event space is also beautifully done—modern, well-appointed, and offering gorgeous views of the city. It’s the perfect setting for any occasion. This hotel exceeded all my expectations and has quickly become my favorite place to stay. I can’t wait to return"

"We've stayed at Four Seasons, Park Hyatts, The Ritz London, The May Fair, the Waldorf, and plenty of other luxury properties around the world. Raffles Boston stands apart, and the reason is the people. Every single staff member we encountered made our stay feel personal. From the front desk to the restaurant team to the butlers, there was a genuine warmth and attentiveness that went well beyond polished hospitality scripts. These are people who clearly excel at what they do, and set the bar very high. A huge part of that, I believe, comes from Rey Moraga, the Director of Guest Experience, who is clearly a master at his craft. You can feel his influence in how the entire team operates. The attention to detail was remarkable, and it was consistent across every touchpoint, every person, every moment. Nobody phoned it in. A special shout-out to our butler Rory, who was outstanding. Attentive, thoughtful, and always available. The hard product is beautiful. The rooms are well-designed and the dining is excellent. But those things exist at a lot of high-end hotels. What you can't replicate easily is a team of people who make you feel genuinely welcomed and cared for from the moment you walk in to the moment you leave. Raffles Boston has that, and I haven't experienced it at this level anywhere else."

"This was our first experience of a Raffles hotel, and I have to say we were very impressed! We stayed for four nights over Easter weekend and booked through Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts, which includes a pretty good package (including an upgrade). The front of house team put us in a really stunning Emerald Suite, which despite overlooking the roof of the parking lot next door, actually still had quite a good view of some of the skyscrapers surrounding the building. Make sure to ask for a high floor if you can (though for us, a spacious room was more important than the view). The suite is quite a lot bigger than it looks in the photos, and the bed is just unbelievably comfortable! We were also big fans of the Palais de Thé teas they put in the room (and our butler was only too happy to restock them whenever we asked). Some reviewers have said that they didn’t think much of the butler service, however we really got full use out of it and our butler was outstanding. She unpacked and packed for us, helped us with changing our dinner reservations multiple times, sorted our pressing and laundry out, and helped prepare and print out an itinerary to keep for our time in Boston. She even ran a bath for us and helped us with all of our random requests over WhatsApp, at any time. We ate breakfast each day in the Long Room, and thought it was lovely. The servers were all really friendly and courteous, and it’s a great setting. The all-inclusive New England breakfast is probably the best deal on offer there. We also found the reception, front of house and ground floor greeting and bellboy staff to all be really noticeably helpful, friendly, and welcoming. There wasn’t a moment where someone on the front door didn’t rush to open it for us and ensure we had everything we need (like umbrellas or even offering to bring a delivery up to our room). The spa area is particularly nice and relaxing for a hotel in a skyscraper. Overall, when we come back to Boston, we would stay at Raffles again, and I think we’d be interested to try other Raffles hotels around the world too. I’m quite surprised by some reviews saying the service was surly or stuffy as we found it to be the complete opposite: everyone working here is incredibly friendly and helpful and seems to enjoy their job. The butler service was a massive plus for us - you just need to know how to get the best use out of it through the WhatsApp, and (especially) by getting to know your individual butler in person. Worth asking them in advance for a detailed list of ideas of how they can help."

"We spent a wonderful weekend at the Raffles Boston to celebrate my daughter’s birthday, and the experience was truly exceptional from start to finish. The service here is where the hotel truly shines. The butler service was professional, attentive, and added that signature touch of Raffles hospitality that made our celebration feel even more special. No request was too small, and their proactive nature ensured our stay was seamless. Our accommodations were equally impressive. The room was impeccably clean and well-appointed, providing a sophisticated yet comfortable sanctuary in the heart of the city. For dining, we highly recommend breakfast at the Long Bar. The food was great, the atmosphere was vibrant, and the views provided a perfect backdrop for our morning. It was a highlight of our stay and a fantastic way to kick off our days of exploring. Raffles Boston provided the perfect setting for a memorable birthday milestone. We look forward to returning!"
