PB hotel design editorial

Steel-framed curtain wall rising six stories above the Fort Point Channel — its glazed facade catching the harbor sunset in the exterior image here like a mirror laid against the waterfront — announced something new for Boston's Seaport District when The Envoy Hotel opened in 2015. Designed by Hacin + Associates, the 136-room property was among the earliest purpose-built hotels to commit fully to the neighborhood's emerging identity, trading the historical brick vocabulary of the surrounding converted warehouses for a language of industrial transparency that lets the water do the decorating. The interiors, led by the design team at SB&G, pull the harbor inside through floor-to-ceiling glazing dressed with amber linen drapes — a warm counterpoint to the cool, light-washed palette of white plaster walls and bleached timber flooring. Guestrooms layer tactile contrast carefully: leather chaise longues in cognac, brass-finished drum side tables, and wood-paneled headwall panels referencing the district's maritime timber heritage without tipping into pastiche. Etched-glass panels printed with antique Boston harbor charts appear as room dividers, grounding the contemporary furniture in local cartographic memory. The ground-floor restaurant trades the exposed ceiling in blackened steel and pendant brass lighting against a long oak bar lined with Hans Wegner-inspired wishbone chairs, while the rooftop bar — framed by a living green wall and teak deck seating overlooking Fort Point Channel — completes what is, in sum, a genuinely site-specific argument for the Seaport's architectural coming-of-age.

"What an amazing experience it was, the Front Desk folks were very friendly and upgraded my room so I could see the harbor. I was in town for work and needed to spend time in my room, so this was appreciated"

"There are pros and cons to this hotel. Pros: excellent location in the Seaport, the restaurant and bar downstairs was great and the rooms are minimalist but cool. Cons: the Rooftop bar is a great feature of this hotel but it’s over run with 20 somethings and influencers. It’s a total scene! To the point of getting back to your room is difficult. The lobby is filled with people waiting to get to the rooftop bar or waiting for Ubers to leave. The elevator situation needs a better plan for guests since I shouldn’t have to be squished into an overcrowded elevator with a gaggle of 20 year olds to get to my room and or wait several cycles of elevators to get back to my room. Also from a security point of view the number of random non guest in the elevator is concerning. At night you need a key to get to your floor but anyone not staying at hotel could get off the elevator on any floor if they were riding the elevator with a guest who swiped to go to their room. There should be a separate elevator for guest and more security in lobby etc due to mass number of non guests. The warmer weather makes this whole situation worse both during day and at night. I do not think I’d stay here again based upon the security concerns."

"Great hotel! The property is beautiful and centrally located. We were able to walk to many of the attractions and restaurants we wanted to check out. The room was cozy and clean with a great view. Even the bathroom rivaled that of a resort. The staff was exceptional. RJ and Lonzo were very accommodating and helpful, very genuine when assisting us with whatever we needed. The hotel restaurant Para Maria was delicious! Get the burger, you won’t regret it. The bartender Brittany was so sweet and made the best old fashions. The rooftop bar is a vibe. If you want to sit in the igloos be sure to make a reservation beforehand, especially on weekends. But the drinks at the downstairs bar were better in my opinion. Also, The Barking Crab is right next door, a must go for lobster rolls! All in all great experience, We will definitely be back!"

"Quiet excellent room. Especially treasure the assistance of a staff member called Marty who extended great kindness in helping me with my Uber car as I was checking out of the hotel. He not only gave me my final receipt at the desk but escorted me to the car and rolled my bags out to it over the wet side walk. Over the top gesture was quickly putting the bags in the trunk of the car. Such courtesy, kindness greatly appreciated by this Envoy patron. Many of my family members stay at this Envoy as a relative lives nearby and all of us have been pleased with the service. Thank you. I have never met Marty before but the Envoy is fortunate to have such a gentleman on its staff. Few companies realize that it is the little gestures that win over customers."
