PB hotel design editorial

At the corner of Stuart and Charles Streets, where Boston's Theater District pushes up against the Back Bay grid, a purpose-built glass tower designed by Elkus Manfredi Architects gave W Boston a vertical profile that few lifestyle hotels in the city can match when seen from the street at dusk — the curtain-wall facade lit from within, the podium base wrapped in warm bronze-toned glazing that catches the blur of passing traffic below. The 235 rooms, spread across 26 floors, were conceived with a palette that pulls in two directions at once: the guest rooms deploy lacquered black coffered headboard walls against dark-stained wood floors and indigo-striped rugs, a mid-century cabinet geometry given an editorial edge by brushed steel nightstands and tufted wingback chairs positioned at floor-to-ceiling windows. The brand's signature Living Room lounge, visible in the images, resolves into something more theatrically charged — draped chain-mail columns descending from a double-height ceiling, blue and violet theatrical lighting washing the glazed facade behind low velvet sectionals clustered around an open fire table, the whole atmosphere closer to a film set than a hotel bar. The ground-floor restaurant takes an altogether lighter tone, with slatted timber ceilings, suspended greenery, and industrial Tolix-style chairs that invite longer afternoons. It is a property that wears its context lightly but wears its brand identity with full conviction.

"Jenny was the absolute best! I was at this property dealing with a death in the family and Jenny really went out of her way to make sure that i had the best stay. The property, location and everything else was perfect but when I told Jenny at the front dest why I was staying here, she went above and beyond to help me make both travel arrangements, made sure I had all the tools that I needed as far as a printer and such and just really felt bad for my situation and showed so much kindness. Thank you Jenny for making a bad situation much better!"

"I travel extensively for work and stay at hotels of the same, higher and lower class as the W in Boston but the service I receive at W Boston is personalized responsive and the most authentic of any hotel. I have stayed several times, often for the Boston marathon and then occasionally for business or pleasure. This weekend I had planned 2 nights but due to the weather I had to at the last minute change to one. They could not have been more helpful. They also always answer the phone and accommodate my preferred room type. The staff at the welcome area, James and his team are polite and very helpful. The people on the insider team who answer emails, Emanuele, Ongie and team are fast and helpful. ... and the rooms are clean and pleasant. The food in the lounge is good and again the staff there are great (our server Sharon was very friendly and efficient! I cannot wait to go back to the hotel for the Boston marathon in April. Thank you!"

"Update: And just when we thought things couldn’t get any worse — at 12:13 a.m. on November 2nd, the fire alarm went off, waking up our entire family. It turned out that a fight had broken out downstairs in the bar, and someone pulled the fire alarm. The chaos was followed by loud sirens outside as fire trucks and police arrived at the hotel. ———————————————————————— This is probably one of the worst expensive hotels I’ve ever stayed in. We paid over $600 a night for a “mega king”room, which unfortunately faces a main street. It’s so loud at night that not even a baby sound machine can mask the club bass, car horns, loud mufflers, and sirens that go on throughout the night. I spoke to the front desk this morning about the noise and was told that I could downgrade (at my own cost) to a room not facing the main street — otherwise, we’d just have to deal with it, even with our 11 month old. That’s truly absurd. The windows are clearly not double-pane, and for the price we’re paying, this level of noise is completely unacceptable. On top of that, breakfast at this hotel is extremely overpriced. We were given a $96 daily credit, but we never spent less than $120 (including tip) for breakfast for two adults and one baby. Drip coffee is $8! One hard boiled egg is $5. Prices are just shocking."

"The fire alarm went off multiple times in one night. The noise is unbearable even with ear plugs in. I booked a mega king room on a top floor and it was hopeless for getting sleep at all. Lovely room but total waste of money if you’re up all night with sirens, fire alarms, honking and bass from the club below. ."

"We absolutely loved our stay at the W Boston! The hotel is perfectly situated in the heart of the city, within easy walking distance to Boston Common and Copley Square, and just a short Uber ride to most major attractions. Check-in was quick and seamless, and we were warmly welcomed by Jenny and Megan at the front desk. They were incredibly friendly, helpful, and genuinely kind—going out of their way to answer our questions and make sure we felt at home. Their hospitality truly set a wonderful tone for our stay. We stayed in a corner king room, which was beautifully designed with floor-to-ceiling windows and a spa-like bathroom featuring a separate tub and shower. The room was spotless, well-maintained, and very comfortable. Because the hotel is close to nightclubs and bars, there can be some city noise, especially on lower floors, but the thoughtful addition of a white noise machine meant we weren’t bothered at all. Breakfast at the hotel was outstanding—fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. The service from the wait staff was equally impressive and made for a great start to each day. Overall, the W Boston combines style, comfort, and exceptional service. We highly recommend it to anyone visiting Boston—you won’t be disappointed!"
