PB hotel design editorial

Twenty-two acres of working Cape Cod harbor, where Pleasant Bay opens toward the Atlantic and lobster boats share the mooring field with sailing dinghies, give Wequassett Resort and Golf Club a setting that no amount of interior design could manufacture. The shingle-style buildings scattered across the property — grey cedar cladding weathered to the color of driftwood, white-painted balustrades, cupola-topped roof forms, arched dormers — follow the vernacular of nineteenth-century Cape Cod maritime architecture closely enough that the ensemble carries the atmosphere of a private compound assembled over generations rather than a resort built to a single brief. The interiors work in the same register. Guest rooms deploy pine four-poster beds with turned finials, trunk-style coffee tables, and striped wallcovering in sage and cream, the palette shifting toward deeper indigo and paisley in the upper-floor cottages where exposed rafter trusses and louvered shutters frame private balconies directly over the water. The open-air dining terrace — hardwood decking, painted spindle railings, pendant lights in cobalt and chartreuse glass suspended from a retractable awning — tilts the same vocabulary toward something more animated without abandoning the nautical reference entirely. At night, the pool terrace is organized around a circular fire feature and a stone fountain, fieldstone retaining walls stepping the landscape down toward the bay in a sequence that makes the boundary between garden and harbor feel genuinely ambiguous.

"Atlantic at the Wequassett – Supper Club in Harwich with Chef Gabriel Frasca (Straight Wharf, Nantucket)Cliff notes: A lovely dinner with fantastic food and wine in a beautiful setting, but the evening ended with frustrating billing issues and double charges.Four of us attended the Supper Club this past Saturday night. The food was creative and delicious, and the setting was absolutely beautiful. Overall, the dining experience itself was excellent. However, things became frustrating at the end of the meal. When I was presented with the check, I explained to the waitress that I had already paid in full ($308) when I booked the event back in January. She told me that my card had only been held, not charged. Before paying again, I checked my credit card app and confirmed that I had in fact been charged on January 21.When I showed this to the waitress, she directed me to the General Manager. After waiting to speak with her, I showed her the charge on my account. She initially told me the charge had been reversed a few days later, but when I checked in front of her, there was no refund posted. At that point, I said I would dispute the charge with my credit card company. She stepped away, then returned and apologized, confirming that I had indeed been double charged. It turned out the other couple in our party had also been double charged, and I suspect this may have affected many of the 30+ guests who booked through OpenTable. To make matters worse, when I returned to the table to get my purse, the waitress asked me to pay separately for a cappuccino, saying it was not included. I explained that I had already been charged $313.69, which included the coffee, and that I was not comfortable providing my card again after the double charge issue. She said the manager would handle it. A restaurant of this caliber should have a clear understanding of how their booking platform (OpenTable) processes payments to avoid situations like this. I am hopeful the duplicate charge will be refunded promptly, and that this serves as a learning experience for the restaurant."

"The resort is beautiful and the staff is friendly and will do anything to insure your stay is perfect. Rooms are spacious and well apportioned. Dining services deserve special mentioning. Chefs James Alex and Erica provide a unique and special experience worthy of a visit just to experience their cuisine. If there is an opportunity be sure to sign up for any culinary class. Your palette will thank you. Will definitely be coming back soon."

"My wife and I had an unforgettable Valentine’s Day at Wequassett. The property itself is immaculate, beautiful, and exceptionally well maintained, but what truly makes this place special is the staff. Every person we encountered went out of their way to make us feel welcome, cared for, and genuinely valued. Their warmth and attention to detail made all the difference. Having traveled extensively, it is rare to experience this level of hospitality. The team made our Valentine’s celebration feel personal and memorable, and we left feeling relaxed, pampered, and grateful. Wequassett is a truly special place, and we look forward to returning. Highly recommended for anyone looking to create meaningful memories."

"We typically stay at Four Seasons properties when traveling. Wequassett rivaled that experience. Service was incredible across the board. Attention to detail. Personal touches. Know your name before you arrive. Surprise & delight. Go the extra mile. Special shoutout to Bill who exemplified that ethos with every interaction. DO NOT SKIP THE RESTAURANTS. Dinner at Thoreau was the best meal I had in 2025. The fitness center was comprehensive in its equipment. We came during the winter and while many amenities were not operational, Wequassett found fun ways to supplement with different experiences. We would come back in the winter and will for sure be back in the summer to take advantage of the water access. 6 out of 5 stars"
