PB hotel design editorial

A red brick Richardsonian Romanesque commercial block on the corner of Douglas Street in downtown Omaha, its terracotta cornice and arched window surrounds intact after more than a century of use, provided the structural identity for The Peregrine Omaha Downtown when it opened as part of Hilton's Curio Collection in 2021. The seven-story building's exterior presents as a study in late-nineteenth-century mercantile confidence — deep-set windows, heavily modeled masonry, the whole facade set against the glass curtain wall of a modern tower rising directly behind it, a juxtaposition that the architects left deliberately unresolved, letting each era speak without apology. Inside, the interiors draw a line between that heritage shell and a palette that tilts more toward the Jazz Age than the Gilded Age. Guest rooms layer ochre-gold drapery with channeled velvet headboards, cognac leather bench seats, and floral-medallion carpets in warm browns — the effect somewhere between a gentleman's study and a well-appointed private rail carriage. The bar and lounge amplify the mood considerably: dark-stained wood paneling hung salon-style with eclectic portraiture, a suspended iron birdcage pendant, tufted gold banquettes, and mirrored columns flanking a marble bar top. On the rooftop, the register shifts entirely — woven rattan chairs, encaustic-tile bar fascia, and slatted timber louvers framing views over the Omaha skyline.

"We love the Hilton Curio collection but this experience was not great. We were not notified that the hotel would not have water for our stay. It was a less than ideal camping experience. I will say Alice was a delight and so helpful and accommodating. The stay - 1 star. Alice’s customer service - 5 stars. I would consider coming back just to see her."

"Have a daughter at Creighton U. Come to Omaha 2-3x a year. Usually try to stay at Indigo but often times is full. We tried the Peregrine this time as alternative because the rate was good. The hotel is beautiful. I don’t know if they recently renovated the rooms but our room was as nice as a Ritz-Carlton. Our room, 301, didn’t have a view it looked out over a rooftop at another building but we kept curtains closed anyways. It meant that our room didn’t have any road noise like we get when we stay at Indigo or Even hotels here. I believe all the 01 rooms here have this feature. The TV and bathroom were really nice. Great bed and pillows. Had nice reading lights and phone cord outlets by bed. The restaurant and rooftop bar are being renovated but you can have order a breakfast entree for $15. Good workout facility. This will be our new first choice when coming to Omaha. We liked it more than the Kimpton. One shortcoming is nothing to do nearby."

"After unpacking and setting up our room, we discovered diarrhea splatter all over the toilet boil, floor, and even on the shower glass next to the toilet. Not to mention hairs everywhere. Not trusting housekeeping, my wife used lysol wipes to clean the entire bathroom herself. We never felt comfortable after this since cleanliness is the most important thing. To make matters worse, management showed zero interest in making the situation right. I called several times during regular business hours before any manager would talk to me. Their eventual offer to credit a paltry sum of Hilton points was a slap in the face given the high cost of the room, the traumatic experience, and me being very respectful to her. She even admitted they could offer more if they wanted to but didn't want to. Bottom line, this hotel is dirty and management doesn't care."

"I hate to give this place 1 star, but I feel obligated. The reason is that I booked this place specifically for the rooftop bar. "Omaha's only rooftop bar" in their words. I booked on their app, checked in and headed to my room. On the elevator, I learned that the rooftop bar was closed for renovations. At $200 per night, I would think that this would have been disclosed when I booked my room. The good... Good location. Easy walking distance to the Riverfront and Old Market. Nice hotel. A little odd with the theme but I knew that when I booked it. Very nice staff. Clean room. Fast elevator. The bad... As stated above, booked for the rooftop bar and it was closed. The restaurant was also closed for the two days I was there which wasn't a huge deal since there were plenty of restaurants close by. Parking not available. You have to pay valet, pay by the hour with street meters, or find your own covered parking near by. Fruit flies galore! The bathroom was covered in fruit flies. I mean a lot! Water temperatures... It took about 5 minutes for the shower to heat up. Then when you adjusted it, it took forever to adjust the temp. Not a huge deal, but when you have an early morning meeting (my first day there) it makes it difficult. I was on the 6th floor and was awoken EARLY in the morning by construction on the rooftop bar. LOUD banging, drilling, and sanding. My second day there was my day off and did not get a change to sleep in due to the noise."
