PB hotel design editorial

Few lakeside sites in the American West carry the accumulated weight of Edgewood Tahoe's position — a south shore parcel where Tahoe's signature cobalt water meets a sandy beach backed by Ponderosa pines, with the Sierra Nevada rising across the water in an unbroken ridgeline. The resort, which replaced an older lodge structure on the same grounds and opened in 2017, was developed by the Edgewood Companies and designed to hold its 154 rooms and suites across a low-slung, dark-clad complex that presses itself into the treeline rather than asserting itself against it. Seen from above in winter, the massing dissolves into the snow, only the stepped rooflines and glass balcony lines giving the building away. Inside, the approach is mountain-contemporary in register — warm walnut millwork, sliding barn-style doors with etched branch detailing, geometric patterned carpeting in slate and charcoal, and lake-view rooms where teal throws against white bedding echo the water just beyond the glass. The dining room is the property's most architecturally confident gesture: a cathedral-ceilinged pavilion with steeply pitched timber trusses and floor-to-ceiling glazing framed in dark steel and local stone columns, the Sierra skyline at dusk filling the window wall like a painting that changes by the hour. The pool terrace steps down toward the shoreline through a sequence of lawn panels and tall pines, the geometry kept spare so the lake itself dominates.

"We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful resort on Lake Tahoe. Everything is thoughtfully designed and impeccably maintained, with great attention to even the smallest details. The location is exceptional, offering a stunning setting and a peaceful atmosphere. We enjoyed our room, which was both elegant and comfortable, as well as the overall ambiance of the resort. It is a truly beautiful place, perfect for anyone looking for a relaxing and rejuvenating getaway. We enjoyed every moment of our stay and would happily return."

"Beautiful resort with unbelievable views, location and amenities. That being said, service really missed the mark and the value wasn't great. We stayed in the King Corner suite which is one of the top rooms on the property but it barely even had a Lake view and was looking into construction and a parking lot. Service the entire time was spotty, our room was never cleaned before 2 pm for 5 days straight despite our repeated asks needing it cleaned and done to nap our kids, the Bistro's food and service never met the mark, and we never even met a Manager once on property. Extremely junior staff. Very odd given the price point. We travel to only 4 and 5 star properties and have a family of 4. I wouldn't classify us as overly picky at all. This just missed the mark."

"Too many issues for a resort of this standing. Recycling is a theme as it should be. However, the shower is so over pressurized that it is uncomfortable. The shower head is at 7 feet on the wall. good luck reaching it to adjust the mode. Plus what a huge waste of water. The AC controls have no instructions and are total out of control after many tries. The fans are like a jet engine when you are trying to sleep. Front desk appears to be operating with trainees. Repeated my email address 3 times in order to receive my charges. This is not an inexpensive resort. Expected more for the price of the stay."

"Absolutely the best location and property in the Tahoe area, with declining service, lack of courtesy, poorly trained reception staff, and poor management. Check-in is at 4 pm even though the industry standard is 3 pm. Even then, your room may not be ready until much later. Noon check-in or upgrades are not honored even though Amex reservations promotes the concept. Service is disconnected. Housekeeping will keep knocking on your door and try to open it despite a "do not disturb" sign. Your key card will expire even though you have guaranteed late checkout. Reception is overwhelmed and poorly trained. You will be charged a parking fee even though you arrived with a group. The manager on duty will apologize and give you a small discount off your invoice if you complain hard enough. What a pity!"
