PB hotel design editorial

Few lakeside sites in the American West carry the accumulated weight of Edgewood Tahoe's position — a south shore parcel where Tahoe's signature cobalt water meets a sandy beach backed by Ponderosa pines, with the Sierra Nevada rising across the water in an unbroken ridgeline. The resort, which replaced an older lodge structure on the same grounds and opened in 2017, was developed by the Edgewood Companies and designed to hold its 154 rooms and suites across a low-slung, dark-clad complex that presses itself into the treeline rather than asserting itself against it. Seen from above in winter, the massing dissolves into the snow, only the stepped rooflines and glass balcony lines giving the building away. Inside, the approach is mountain-contemporary in register — warm walnut millwork, sliding barn-style doors with etched branch detailing, geometric patterned carpeting in slate and charcoal, and lake-view rooms where teal throws against white bedding echo the water just beyond the glass. The dining room is the property's most architecturally confident gesture: a cathedral-ceilinged pavilion with steeply pitched timber trusses and floor-to-ceiling glazing framed in dark steel and local stone columns, the Sierra skyline at dusk filling the window wall like a painting that changes by the hour. The pool terrace steps down toward the shoreline through a sequence of lawn panels and tall pines, the geometry kept spare so the lake itself dominates.

"I recently had the pleasure of staying one night at the Edgewood resort. I am fortunate enough to live 40 minutes away from this lovely resort. The views were amazing from the Bistro and my hotel room. I highly recommend booking a room with a lake view. The staff at the check in desk were very friendly and provided a complimentary glass of champagne. The rooms were tastefully decorated with a gorgeous bathroom with top notch toiletries. I did not have a chance to use the complimentary shuttle to the shopping village but will try it next time. Wonderful place for single travelers or couples to unwind from stress. Worth every penny for the quality of the experience in unforgettable surroundings."

"10/10 recommend this gorgeous place. Check in was easy. Walking into the lobby and seeing views of the lake took my breath away. I wish the room had more storage space for winter gear etc. Bedding and linen were great just wished for premium pillows. Staff was above accommodating especially Doug in the Edge restaurant and bar. Shuttle service to Heavenly was quick and convenient. This is such a special place. I’m thinking of bringing my family back to celebrate Christmas!"

"Edgewood Tahoe is a fabulously run family luxury resort hotel with all the amenities one could ask for. The lake views, access to skiing, restaurants and the casinos and first class service in wonderful rooms makes this a hotel we return to year in and year out. The onsite restaurants are fabulous as is the Spa. We just love the Edgewood!"

"I’m leaving the resort after a business retreat. While everyone agrees that the setting is idyllic and the lobby magnificent, there seem to be contradictory opinions about the service and possibly the rooms. Here’s my take. The service was exceptional from start to finish. I telephoned Craig at the front desk before arriving and he was amazing at accommodating my request. The service at check in, housekeeping, in the restaurants, shuttles, the spa (beautiful facilities) and the meeting support staff were all of a high caliber seldom seen anywhere. OMG, they even have turn down as the routine. This wasn’t just my opinion, but that of my colleagues. They similarly agreed that the rooms were large, pretty, and a soothing haven. I’ve stayed at many different lodges in Tahoe and this one is the only one that I am certain to book on a return. I will undoubtedly run into one of my colleagues from work if I do."

"Good property, but service was really poor. Food options for vegetarians are almost non existent. Won’t be returning."
