PB hotel design editorial

Conceived as the centerpiece of MGM Resorts' $8.5 billion CityCenter development — the largest privately financed construction project in American history when it completed in 2009 — the twin curved towers designed by Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects brought a genuinely urban ambition to the Las Vegas Strip. Aria Resort & Casino rises across 61 floors, its floor-to-ceiling glass curtain wall catching the desert light differently at every hour, the convex facades generating a sense of continuous movement that most Strip properties, locked into static monumentalism, never attempt. The Sky Suites component sits at the tower's upper reaches, separated from the main hotel as its own access-controlled enclave. The interiors visible in the suite images reflect a recent refresh — grey upholstered headboards with scalloped profiles, clean white lacquer case goods, tonal linen drapery, and a palette of warm greige and charcoal that keeps the floor-to-ceiling Strip panorama as the dominant visual event in every room. Suite living areas introduce walnut-toned divider columns, low-slung lounge chairs in cream bouclé, and cobalt area rugs that anchor the space without competing with the view. The restaurant image — Gothic barrel vaults, a sculptural iron tree displaying spirits bottles, deeply carved wooden relief panels — points to Bárbara, the hotel's Mexican dining venue, where the architecture operates at a completely different register from the rooms above, theatrical and grotto-like against the tower's cool restraint.

"We were excited to stay at Aria Sky Suites, but our stay was plagued by so many issues that it simply wasn't worth the price we paid. From the start, multiple things in our room were broken: the AC in the bedroom didn't work — a serious problem when it's 110°F outside — the iPad in the bedroom wasn't functional, and the TV's display settings were completely off. Then the AC in the living room stopped working too. On top of that, a pipe burst in the suite next to ours and flooded it, so industrial fans were placed right outside our door to dry things out, making our stay incredibly noisy. I understand that things break at hotels, but at a 5-star property, I expect the service to match the price tag. We had to call the front desk multiple times just to get basic issues addressed. When maintenance came to fix the panel behind the bedroom TV, they took parts from our bathroom and left a mess behind. Even our blackout curtains didn't close all the way, so we were woken up by sunlight every morning. No one could have predicted the pipe bursting next door, but the response afterward is where Aria really fell short: no one called to offer us a room change, no one explained what had happened, and no one checked in to see if we needed anything. For a 5-star hotel, that level of service is unacceptable. Between the broken amenities, the repeated maintenance issues, and the lack of proactive communication, this stay did not live up to the Aria name — or the price we paid."

"Everything was amazing at the Aria resort. The rooms were extremely comfortable spacious. The bathrooms were amazing with the soak Abel tub the steam room and the bidet. I was not happy spending as much money as I did for the sky. Suite to still have to pay for parking at the resort access to the hotel was quick-and easy from the airport with a rental car or by rideshare. Now my experience was check-in was not good. I had issues with the fact that I did everything with the MGM app including requesting a digital key. Had everything set up so that I can just go to my room upon my arrival because we had an early dinner plans however, when I got there, the room kept indicating that it was still being prepared. The room should’ve been ready by 3 PM when I spoke to someone via the phone they said it would not be ready till 5 PM and if I want it to be any quicker, I would have to go to the front desk and check in through them to see if they could speed up the process. I did not understand the purpose of doing all the check-in online through the app so that I can just go right to my room instead of waiting in a line to just have to wait in a line. This was my least favorite part of the entire trip checkout was easy."

The beautifully appointed interiors, high quality appliances, luxurious bedrooms and thoughtful amenities created an incredible atmosphere of comfort and elegance. The pillows and bedding were exceptionally comfy we slept peacefully and soundly. The jacuzzi, bidet and every detail throughout the Suite is luxury and convenience.
