PB hotel design editorial

When Steve Wynn spent $1.6 billion to open his Italian lake village fantasy on the Strip in 1998, the ambition was explicit: to make Las Vegas feel, however briefly, like somewhere else entirely. The Bellagio, designed by the architecture firm Atlandia Design with interiors overseen by Roger Thomas, planted a 8.5-acre artificial lake along Las Vegas Boulevard and filled it with 1,200 choreographed fountains — the image visible in these photographs, water columns surging gold against a cream neoclassical facade whose arched windows and pilastered bays borrow loosely from the architecture of Lake Como. The property runs to 3,933 rooms across 36 floors in its original tower, with the Spa Tower addition bringing the total footprint to one of the largest on the Strip. Inside, the approach has always favored density of material over austerity — the conservatory's seasonal floral installations, Dale Chihuly's ceiling sculpture in blown glass above the lobby, and marble floors throughout the public areas establishing an aesthetic of abundance that stops just short of excess. The guest rooms photographed here show two distinct generations: an earlier scheme in aubergine and chartreuse with graphic baroque wall murals, and a more recent renovation pulling toward grey upholstered headboards, teal velvet slipper chairs, brass-trimmed casegoods, and abstract seascape art — a quieter register that suits the elevated Strip views framed through floor-to-ceiling windows. The pool courtyard, framed by clipped topiary and classical urns, carries the same Italian garden discipline that governs the property's exterior language.

"My wife and I stayed here on a SW US road trip. This was our starting point. We really set a high bar for the rest of the trip. The hotel is beautiful. Parking was easy. It is a pretty big garage, so make sure you know where you parked (take a pic of the garage signage). I messed up the online check-in. I was offered a fountain view upgrade but somehow upgraded to a suite. They graciously put me back in our original room with a refund of the suite upgrade. This was definitely my mistake, so I'm grateful for the excellent customer service. We had breakfast at Sadelle's, and it was very good. I had a bagel sandwich, and my wife had an omelette. The hash browns were excellent. The portions were huge, so be prepared. I really liked the kiosks for getting the room keys. You get a QR code that you scan at the kiosk. The kiosk then prints your keys. I like technology and not waiting in long check in lines. Win win."

"Belliago has been very amazing! Starting with our check in with Jacqueline at the front desk. She helped make my son’s birthday so special. She is truly a gem! Also, got wonderful service with Valerio in retail at Goardini. He went the extra step to make sure my gift was special for my friend. Sadelle’s was awesome for lunch. 5 stars Belliago"

"I don’t like to write bad reviews but after my experience here, it feels necessary. For having a reputation as the “best” MGM hotel property in Vegas, my stay here fell incredibly short. I booked a stay for three nights with my boyfriend to celebrate his birthday. We were given a connecting room. The walls are already paper thin in the hotel, so with there being a door on the shared wall to the neighboring room, noise cancelation was nonexistent. Our neighbors blasted music & partied until 5am every night. Yes, it’s Vegas, but all hours of the night was inconsiderate. We got no sleep & were miserable. When we politely asked the front desk for a way to alleviate the situation, they stated that the neighbors were checking out that day so the problem was solved. No accommodation or apology for the damage already done. Not worth hundreds of dollars a night when you can’t even enjoy sleep in your room. The pillows are very uncomfortable, the front desk staff is borderline rude, & the guest treatment leaves a lot to be desired. The hotel is beautiful & the heated pool is very relaxing, but I have had much better experiences at other Vegas properties."
