PB hotel design editorial

Seventeen years passed between groundbreaking and opening day — a timeline that became its own Las Vegas legend. Fontainebleau Las Vegas finally rose to completion in December 2023, a 67-story, 737-foot curtain-wall tower designed by Carlos Zapata Studio that now holds the distinction of being the tallest occupiable building in Nevada. The deep blue glass skin catches the desert sky differently at every hour, and at night the illuminated crown reads like a beacon anchoring the northern Strip. The $3.7 billion project delivers 3,644 rooms across a scale that demands a design team commensurate with its ambition — Carlos Zapata handled the exterior architecture alongside executive architect Bergman Walls and Associates, while the interiors were divided among David Collins Studio, Rockwell Group, Lissoni and Partners, and Jeffrey Beers International. The collective result draws its visual grammar from Morris Lapidus and the original Fontainebleau Miami Beach — bow-tie motifs, a signature palette of blue, silver, and coral, and mid-century modern curves translated into contemporary hospitality language. Guest rooms show the Collins Studio hand clearly: arched upholstered headboards in deep navy, brass disc wall sculpture, geometric carpet, and floor-to-ceiling views across the valley. Suites step up to antique-mirror wardrobes, amber glass chandeliers, and warm oak floors. Rockwell Group brings characteristic energy to the food and beverage spaces, where living green walls, cedar ceilings, and cascading brass sculptural pendants fill the restaurants. The pool district, shaped by Jeffrey Beers International, pulls the whole project toward its Miami heritage — white tensile canopies, blue-striped loungers, and a vast free-form pool that somehow makes the desert feel coastal.

"Scammed by the Front Desk – Check Your Bill! Fontainebleau Las Vegas is practicing deceptive "bait and switch" pricing. They offered me an upgrade at a "40% discount," which turned out to be $400-600 more expensive than the public rate on their own website. The service recovery was even worse. I downgraded back to my original room to avoid the overcharge, but they ignored my request and billed me for the suite for the entire stay anyway. Their front desk team is either incompetent or trained to cheat guests. I checked out early this morning and they are refusing to adjust the bill, claiming I am still checked in. Stay somewhere else where the "luxury" includes basic honesty."

"This hotel was horrible! If I could give it zero stars I would! There were so many additional fees that we were unaware of! Once I received the official bill after I left the resort they charged my credit card over $500 USD unauthorized!! I would stay far away from this hotel! Not to mention the staff was extremely rude during the stay (5 days) I couldn’t believe it from the front desk staff to the door men outside! Unreal! I’ve never been treated so verbally badly from a company! If you’re thinking of this place stay somewhere else you will be thankful you did!"

"Well, this is Las Vegas and it is very busy all the time. The rooms are very nice. The property appears to be very clean. I enjoyed the spa, but the general decor was a little too office like. Sterile. However, I have never stayed in a hotel that does not provide the common courtesy of a coffee maker in the guest rooms. I fail to comprehend this. That was a monumental let down. Yes, the coffee place is open 24 hours, I know, but it’s also far, far away. You can’t make your own coffee? For this reason I would not stay here again nor would I recommend. I don’t understand the reasoning behind this decision."

"What a destination! The hotel offers superb service, a great variety of diverse & atmospheric dining options, a bright & airy building, as well as what I consider a great locale, away from the sometimes seedy mid-Strip. Walked to The Sphere, Fashion Square, Arte Museum; free Tesla Loop rides to a few locales (soon to be airport). What a great experience!"
