PB hotel design editorial

Seventeen years passed between groundbreaking and opening day — a timeline that became its own Las Vegas legend. Fontainebleau Las Vegas finally rose to completion in December 2023, a 67-story, 737-foot curtain-wall tower designed by Carlos Zapata Studio that now holds the distinction of being the tallest occupiable building in Nevada. The deep blue glass skin catches the desert sky differently at every hour, and at night the illuminated crown reads like a beacon anchoring the northern Strip. The $3.7 billion project delivers 3,644 rooms across a scale that demands a design team commensurate with its ambition — Carlos Zapata handled the exterior architecture alongside executive architect Bergman Walls and Associates, while the interiors were divided among David Collins Studio, Rockwell Group, Lissoni and Partners, and Jeffrey Beers International. The collective result draws its visual grammar from Morris Lapidus and the original Fontainebleau Miami Beach — bow-tie motifs, a signature palette of blue, silver, and coral, and mid-century modern curves translated into contemporary hospitality language. Guest rooms show the Collins Studio hand clearly: arched upholstered headboards in deep navy, brass disc wall sculpture, geometric carpet, and floor-to-ceiling views across the valley. Suites step up to antique-mirror wardrobes, amber glass chandeliers, and warm oak floors. Rockwell Group brings characteristic energy to the food and beverage spaces, where living green walls, cedar ceilings, and cascading brass sculptural pendants fill the restaurants. The pool district, shaped by Jeffrey Beers International, pulls the whole project toward its Miami heritage — white tensile canopies, blue-striped loungers, and a vast free-form pool that somehow makes the desert feel coastal.

"We had a great time at this hotel! Was in town for a conference and took my family with me. The room was very clean! I read the other reviews… maybe they saw them and stepped it up! The bed was very comfortable. The hotel pool was great! We rented the bed that sits in the water at the pool… ordered food poolside. We ordered a burger, the fruit plate, and a wrap ( I forgot which one). The food was great and we had a great time. The burger was the best. So the bed was around 400 to rent but the food you order contributes to that fee, which is great. Ok so the drinks and food can be pricier than your average place but it’s Vegas, and it’s the Fontainebleau. You had to know that going in. The service was wonderful. The spa!!! Ok that is an experience not to miss. Didn’t get a massage (I didn’t want to pay that price) but about 200 to hang out in the spa was well worth it. I spent four hours there and I left a new person! Go. You won’t regret it. The entrance into the spa smells wonderful! The lady working there said they are creating the scent for sale but it’s not ready yet. It’s divine. The little retail area at the spa entrance is a joy in itself. Mother Wolf restaurant at the hotel- excellent Meyer lemon pasta, and mushroom pizza. Food Hall- we went to Miami Slice and it was yum and so was the Japanese spot…. I think it was called Bar Ito or something like that. The hand rolls were so delicious, that we went two days in a row to eat there. The ramen, was just so so. About our room- it was on the 61st floor and faced the pool. I could hear the music a little bit at night, but I was able to sleep. I’m a pretty light sleeper and in a good mood. A light sleeper in a bad mood might not like sleeping in that side of the building."

"Gave this hotel 4 stars last October but now think it deserves five. It is spotless and the cleaners should be marked out as doing a great job. 99% of the staff have a fantastic attitude, with so many you will always find one who looks like they would rather be anywhere else. It was noticeably busier. The pool area had much better music in the mornings. Anyone looking hard enough will find fault, this is a huge hotel, but they will have to look very hard and perhaps wanting to. The management do a great job. The restaurants are pricy but no more than others on the strip. The casino is top notch. The only draw back is, if a non resident and you hit a jackpot they will not do the paper work and withhold 30% of your payout, a crazy tax system and leading to expense and time for the player to sort out. Certainly up there in the top three hotels on the strip. Where one places it depends on what is most important. The position may be a disadvantage if looking for the huge crowds. However to some that is an advantage."

"Disappointed with crusty room and customer service. I checked into room 10:30pm in the evening and the ceiling above the bed was peeling, damaged by someone who had taped decorations to the ceiling (Ill post pictures). I called down to desk to let them know, and instead of offering me a different room, they offered to send up maintenance guy the next day to "fix it". Im staying here for a 3 day conference. The view was great of the pool BUT I did not know it also faced LIV nightclub. At 12am, the music started thumping in that nightclub and I can't sleep because it is so loud in my room. Called the front desk AGAIN and instead of offering a room change, they offered to send up earplugs and a fan. I already travel with a white noise machine and that was not helping. Apparently EDC was having a party at LIV that night. The front desk said the music would end at 3am. At 4:15am, it was still thumping. I have to get up early for meetings, so this was not helpful. At 7:15am, I WENT DOWN to the front desk to request a room change. They front desk said "NO, Im sorry - but don't worry, there are no more parties at LIV for the rest of the week". I wasn't asking for an upgrade or credits, just a CLEAN QUIET room to sleep. At $350/night for a Bleu King (base room), prices inflated for the convention, I am going to take my business to the Wynn or Encore (same price). Nobody wanted to help me, meanwhile two different customers checking in next to me got UPGRADES and water bottles."

"I understand hotels need to check room keys sometimes for security, and I had no problem cooperating. However, during my stay, my friend and I were asked to show our room keys while other guests around us were not being checked. What made the experience uncomfortable was not the security check itself, but the way it was handled. The security guard’s tone, facial expression, and attitude made us feel singled out rather than simply part of a normal hotel procedure. A small interaction like this can really affect a guest’s overall impression of a hotel. I hope management will remind staff to handle security checks with more consistency, respect, and professionalism."
